Hi Everyone! It's officially March and I hope that means the winter weather is over and spring is on its way. We still have huge mounds of snow everywhere, but it's 41 degrees and going up to 48 today so it should continue to melt, and I only see sun or rain in the forecast for the week; no snow! My mother and step-father got their second vaccine last week. My step-father had no side effects, while my mom experienced a low-grade fever, aches and chills about 24 hours after getting the shot. She said she just took some Tylenol and went to bed and she was fine by the next morning. My Dad goes for his first shot today. It's not even 9:30 am and it's already been an eventful day. I didn't get to sleep until about 2am last night after reviewing The Rookie, and then was woken up at 5am but went back to sleep, so I was pretty tired when the alarm went off at 7:15am. My daughter's bus picks her up at 8:25am, but for some reason I kept thinking it was 8:40am (maybe because it drops her back off at 1:40pm?) So, we missed the bus. I'm blaming it on Monday and a lack of sleep. So my husband and I drive her to school, but my husband forgets his glasses. He can see, but he can't read signs. Luckily the drive to the school is fairly easy, but I had to read any signs as we drove. After we dropped Kate off and headed back home, he backed up to park on the side of the driveway, which he does every day, only this time he side swiped a fence post. So, it's been an interesting day already. I think I'm going to go back to bed and sleep for a couple more hours. Then I have the follow-up appointment with my surgeon. Fingers crossed that goes better than every thing else today! So how's your week looking so far?

Draining my pool today. I have had a leak for awhile and I figured it was time before it heats up again. My new iPad (bought in 2017) has some glitch in its system and it keeps crashing. The Apple store is ordering me a new one to change out with this one. New ones are $1000+ but they will exchange this one for $300+. I will have to get out my original ipad until the new one comes so i can do my monthly facetime with my grandkidos this week.

It's been 2 wks. since our 2nd shot so we are starting to open up a little bit. We will continue to mask and distance but go more places. We went to Kohls on Saturday. Yesterday, we went and tanned and stopped at a different store. Today, we grocery shopped and picked up lunch from Noodles. LOL, just being wild and crazy here

They just dropped the vaccine age to 55 here. I was so excited that my husband is eligible now. I went out and checked appts times at various locations and there were lots of appts for today! I texted him right away. He called me later and said he thought he would just wait until he could get the one dose vaccine. Good Grief!
I'm about to do the riskiest thing I've done in the whole pandemic. Last July I had the opportunity to get a condo at Daytona Beach for an incredible price for next week. Now I find out that the UK mutation of Covid is rapidly spreading in Florida, is 40% more contagious, and the vaccines don't work as well against it. Oh and did I mention it's bike week? Some of my friends will be down also so we'll all golf. Most of them have been vaccinated so I hope everything works out OK.

WooHoo! I just got my second shot! Now I have to be good for a couple more weeks and then I should at least be able to connect with friends and family who have also been vaccinated. I'm also thrilled that my oldest daughter and her husband, who are both teachers, have gotten their first shots so we'll be able to see them in a month or so. My husband put it this way as we were on our way home from my appointment today - "Not only can I see the light at the end of the tunnel - I can even see the scenery!"

I've come to the conclusion that I'm living in the wrong state for making a vaccine appointment! Walgreens and the 2 major grocery chains (Safeway and Fry's) are all booked up. The message always says that there are no appointments available in my area. My county has lowered the eligibility to 55+ which will make it even harder to find an opening. Hopefully the J & J vaccine will create more openings soon. Very frustrating.

I tried for weeks to get my Dad the vaccine and it was beginning to feel impossible, and then suddenly I found an opening. But like you, I'm hoping that this new one-dose vaccine will be a game-changer for everyone.

I'm thankful to be living here. Getting Tested and vaccinated for Covid has been pretty easy. After dropping the age to 55 on Tuesday, yesterday they dropped the age to 50! Then the hospital called my husband and told him he was eligible! I can't imagine why they did that except maybe because he was on the call list for when vaccines were left over at the end of the day. He asked when they would be getting the J&J vaccine because he just wanted to get one shot. They said it wasn't too likely our little city would get any or at least not for months. I guess when we get back from vacation he'll go ahead and get scheduled.
My brother called and said he got his 1st vaccination. He's in his 70s. He originally said he wouldn't get it right away because others needed it worse than him. He doesn't have a computer or wifi or a smart phone so his neighbor tried to schedule him online but she couldn't do it because he didn't have an email address. She suggested he try at the library. They were able to set him up. Apparently they used their own email. I'm not sure why he didn't ask me to do it. I'm pretty computer literate (there's a reason why I'm ibmjas) and I'm sure I could have accomplished it even though he's in another part of the state. Oh well, I'm just glad he got his 1st one.

With unexpected luck yesterday, I was able to schedule my husband for both of his vaccines...for today and three weeks from today!! By the tine I went back to schedule my own, there weren't any available appointments. That's how fast times get scooped up here. Tried again today with no luck. Will keep trying several times a day. Something has to open up eventually, lol.

I'm sure you'll get one for yourself soon.

In good news, I had the follow-up with my surgeon this week and he lifted many of my restrictions! I can walk without the cane, except on stairs. I can do more and varied exercises, which makes things more interesting. But I have to admit that with the new exercises comes new aches and pains. It's like my muscles haven't been asked to move in certain ways in months and now they're not too happy about it.
But my physical therapist says I'm two to four weeks ahead of schedule so I'm pretty happy.
Elsewhere, my cousin is getting married today in Florida. When we got the save-the-date card last summer I was hoping we'd be able to go, but it wasn't meant to be. I'm happy for the couple that they can still have the wedding. It went from a big wedding to a small, family wedding, and being in Florida they're able to have it outdoors. I'm just looking forward to seeing some pictures.
