Sorry I am getting to this late. I hope everyone is well. Our fearless leader is home and healing. I just got my appt to get the covid vaccine. I can't get it until late Feb but at least I have a date to work towards. I know it doesn't make me totally safe but at least I can maybe start camping again? I woke up to a wonderful light rain this morning so I am happy today. I love rain

I kept thinking that I had posted this thread...but I hadn't. Which probably says a lot about how my week is going. Really though, it's not too bad. My hip still hurts but that's to be expected and I'm trying to take minimal pain meds to avoid the side effects. This afternoon is my first day of physical therapy. Unfortunately, it snowed last night! Now I have to find appropriate footwear, or more specifically, have my daughter find it for me as I can't quite get to my closet with my walker. Then I have to hope the five stairs I have to get up and down from our porch aren't slippery, which is making me nervous. But I'll check back in later and let everyone know how it goes. Hope you are all having a great week.

No appointments yet but we are on 3 lists to get shots so wait and see for us. We did our groceries this week and I can pick up my new reading glasses today. All went very well with my eye exam last week. Just a slight tweak in my reading glasses. She said that I did not need to get new ones but my old ones have seen better days. Have a GOOD week everyone.

My first physical therapy appointment went well. My husband had cleaned off the back porch of snow before he left for work and my Dad drove me to the appointment.
My new physical therapist said I have excellent strength for one week after surgery and that the therapists at the hospital taught me all the best techniques. I'm moving well and healing quickly. He gave me exercises but stressed that I should take it slow because pushing too hard is my biggest risk right now.
So, so far so good. But it all made me very tired and I'm having very strange dreams, probably because of the medication. But at least I'm sleeping which is more than I can say for before the surgery, so I'll take the win where I can get it.
Hope you're all having a good week.

I am really pleased to see your report. Sounds great...just keep with their program. You might become convinced that you can do more and push harder. Don't do it. The therapist [and Dawn] 'jerked me back' when I tried to do more than I was instructed. I just wanted to recover and didn't want to be a burden. However, I finally realized that pushing too hard really might be very counter-productive and cause regresssion thereby extending the recovery period. It's okay to let your family take care of you for a change.

Thanks, larryholmes. I'll do my best to take your advice. But I think I jinxed myself yesterday. I was so happy the pain had been minimal and then I woke up last night and my leg HURT. I think it's because of the stretches they had me doing in physical therapy, but it took the pain meds a while to kick in once I finally took them. It's made me very tired today, and I have more physical therapy tomorrow morning. Hopefully, the after effects won't be as intense this time!

Friday I took my MIL to get her vaccine. She had an appt and everything went quite smoothly. I was hoping they would get to my age group next month but now there seems to be a shortage of vaccines and they are worried that people won't be able to get their 2nd doses in a timely manner. She felt pretty dizzy the next morning and thought it was probably due to the shot. IDK. My son tested positive on thursday. He's had pretty minor symptoms so I think he'll be OK.

All is well here. Was able to get to the wildlife refuge a week ago, my friend who lives in Newburyport goes frequently to photograph, and snowy owls have been seen, but not when we were there. However, any day near the ocean is excellent for me. And we did spy a peregrine falcon sitting next to the chimney on an abandoned house that sits close to the refuge. OFten snowy owls will roost there too. Christine, glad to hear your surgery went well. Hope your therapy and recovery continue to go well. We are back to bare ground here as the last storm we had was over 2 inches of rain, rather chilly for us this week, but clear. Can't complain (yet ) because bare ground makes life much easier for me and for the goats. Take care everyone!
