The first full week of 2021 is going pretty well. My friend had one eye done today to correct her cataract. Arizona is again #1 in the world for covid. I lost another camping friend last night. He lost his wife a week ago to covid also. Other than a few trips to kayak I am basically staying home.

Okay, Monday flew right past me and I've spent most of today trying to remember what day it is. I got the okay from my physician to be cleared for surgery next week, as long as my Covid test comes back negative. So I began calling physical therapy facilities to set that up after the surgery, and it's so frustrating. There are three places in town that take my insurance. Two haven't called me back yet, and the third told me they couldn't tell me how much any of it would cost until they process my insurance. Since I have a deductible, much, if not all, will come out of my own pocket and I find it ridiculous that they can't give me any idea how much I'll be charged for each session until after the fact. Some people from our town put out a petition for the schools to offer full time classes again. Currently they offer a hybrid plan (part-time in school, part-time virtual) and all virtual. The hybrid plan allows them to keep class sizes small, reduce the number of kids on buses, and adhere to social distancing. I know a lot of people are having a difficult time of it with their kids but with the Covid #s rising, I can't imagine it's possible, or smart, to go back to a full schedule, and I find it really frustrating to see people pushing for that. Since I have surgery next week, we're quarantining and have changed my daughter to all virtual school for the month. My husband is mostly alone in his office, but his boss wanted to send a new person from the NYC office to have him train this week. Thankfully, he told him he wasn't comfortable with that, at least not this month. Hope everyone's new year has had a good start and you are all well and safe. Please check in if you can.

Hopefully, your surgery goes smoothly. You will be in my prayers.

Do exactly as your doctor says…do NOT exceed the specified rehab exercises. Over time, I have had both knees replaced and one ankle rebuilt twice [apparently I had a veterinarian the first time]. Seriously, if you become too eager and over-do it, the set back will be quick and may disturb the surgery procedure you just had. Fortunately, I had done the pre-surgery exercises and followed rehab procedures exactly without relapses. I can guarantee you will want to get up and away quickly. Nevertheless, trust your doctor’s specified rehab instructions.

Take care my USA friends.
2021 so far is quiet for me up in Canada. Haven't been doing much besides working or hermitting in my apartment.

My new year is off to a quiet start and I'm thankful for that. I'm in the process of binding 3 quilts and then I'm going to embark on a big scrapbooking project to create memory albums for my 2 daughters of their childhoods. I should have done it long ago but just never had the time to focus on it. I figure that this is the perfect time to do it, when I'm stuck at home and waiting for a vaccine.

larryholmes, Thanks for the advice. So far, I have followed all of the pre-op instructions to the letter. I just went for my Covid test this morning. I’ll get the results on Monday. As long as it’s negative, the hospital will confirm my surgery for Wednesday. I can’t say I’m looking forward to surgery, but I am looking forward to getting this fixed and starting recovery.

Super, I am sure that you are! We are enduring 'in home capture' because Dawn was exposed to a confirmed COVID-19 'positive' person. The physical therapist she has been seeing has been wonderful. Unfortunately, her husband tested 'positive' so Allie was tested and is 'positive' too. Dawn's last session with Allie was almost a week ago. Neither of us has displayed any symptoms. So, we'll see how this goes.

Christine, I'm wishing you a full recovery and an end to your pain. Following doctor's and therapist's orders will make your recovery go smoothly. Like larryholmes said, don't overdue it.
For the last few months, my husband has been fighting and getting treatment for an infection in his big toe. He was on IV antibiotics for a couple days in the hospital, followed by weekly treatments in the wound clinic. I had to change his dressing every other day. As it turned out, he had outpatient surgery Thursday and said the toe felt so much better right after. He's also three for three with negative covid results (a very good thing). This was not how we pictured the start of the new year, but things can only get better from now on, lol.

I'd heard horror stories about how uncomfortable Covid testing could be, but it was really quite easy and not uncomfortable at all. My husband was at work today. He is the only person in the entire building on Saturdays, so he wasn't wearing his mask when a fellow co-worker unexpectedly showed up to grab her check. They chatted a few minutes when she told him she'd just found out that her sister tested positive and they'd spent time together over the holidays. Thankfully, she was wearing a mask as she talked to my husband, and he swears they were about 8 to 10 feet apart and they only spoke for a few minutes, but as I'm being so careful before my surgery, it really made me want to scream.
