It’s can’t possibly be Nov. 30th. Wasn’t it just Halloween last week? How did the entire month of November just blow past us like this?
Of course it didn’t. As a matter of fact, some of those days, especially those around the election, felt as though they’d never stop dragging on. But here we are with December starting and it seems Christmas will be here before I know it…or have presents bought for it.
Ever since my daughter was 3-years-old, I’ve done what we call the Countdown to Christmas. Sort of like an Advent calendar, but I string up lights and little holiday themed bags and mini-stockings across an entire wall of the kitchen. One bag or stocking for each day, beginning December 1st.
I usually spend most of October/November stocking up with little gifts and special candies for it, but the only store I’ve gone to in months is the grocery store! I’ve barely got enough to cover the first week, never mind 24 days. I’m sure I’ll figure it out but it is another unexpected challenge presented by 2020.
Let us know how your week is going…

After 3 weeks my fever is finally back to normal. My husband and I had pretty different symptoms. My husband lost his taste and smell and it is still mostly gone after 3 weeks. He coughed a lot and is still coughing some. I started out coughing but that eased up after about a week. I was nauseous a lot and of course had fever. Several of my friends have had Covid. It's not something anyone puts on Facebook so if you don't have a good grapevine you may not realize some of your friends have had it. I just found out that my one friend who has been on a ventilator for about 3 weeks is not going to make it. It's crushing. So many of my friends have said they've been so careful but most are travelling, going out to eat, having get-togethers. I've heard so many of them say they aren't going to live their lives in fear and they trust in God. I just don't get it. I was very careful but my husband was exposed at work and by the time we realized it, we both already had it. It's a vascular disease and I'm worried about having issues that aren't apparent right now with my heart or lungs. There is still so much they don't know about it. Be careful out there.

ibmjas, I'm so relieved that you are getting better, but sorry that you and your family have had to go through this. Yes, I have family who think they are being safe yet seem to be doing a lot of socializing. But it's spreading so fast now. We've had local businesses close, not because the government is shutting things down but because they've had too many employees with Covid and don't have enough staff to stay open. Please continue to take care of yourself and let us know how you're doing.

Hi ibmjas, I'm glad to hear from you! I've been thinking about you and wondering how you were doing. I'm glad you and your husband are getting better. Here in Portugal, I also see people around me not being so careful. I've just been invited to the usual Christmas dinner with my closest friends. I'm not going this year, but I do see many people not avoiding this little get togethers. Please take care you all.

ibmjas so good to hear from you. Keep moving forward and getting better. It just keeps getting worse everywhere but people seem to not listen and keep going out and having family gatherings. My RV camping group still has 8 rigs going this weekend. I wish our governor would shut things down again. I finally got my left side of my back done this week yesterday. I am already feeling so much relief. I am taking it easy for a few days but plan on going on a kayak trip next week for sure. I figure that is a pretty safe thing to do. Outdoors with distance on the water. We do wear a mask if we are in a car together taking the kayaks to the water.

IBM, I'm so glad to hear that you're making good progress back to normal. You've been in my prayers and I'll continue to keep you there. I understand all of the uncertainty about lasting effects. Thankfully, we're all still healthy in my family but the numbers are truly frightening. I'm encouraged by the progress on multiple vaccines and hope for things to start looking a lot more positive in the spring. We're planing on cutting our Christmas tree this week, which is actually early for us, but the weather is decent and my husband would much rather do it now than when the wind chill is around zero and the snow's flying. I'm anxious to sit in the living room with the Christmas music playing, the fireplace on and just the tree lights. That's the peace of Christmas for me! I'm overdosing on Hallmark Christmas movies and loving every minute of it! Later this week I'll be starting the first of several batches of my homemade Christmas caramels. I mail out several boxes so I figure I better get them going a little early this year. Despite the fact that we won't see the family in person this Christmas, I think there'll be a lot of traditional activities that keep my spirits up.

I appreciate everyone's concern. My husband hates not being able to taste. I keep telling him everything I've made is incredibly delicious! He can't argue!
I've watched a gazillion Hallmark movies the last 3 weeks. It always amazes me that everyone in the movies gets a real tree, even the ones that are broke. IRL I don't know anyone that gets a real tree, but now Nathanfan, it sounds like you actually live a Hallmark movie. You go out and chop down your own tree up in the northern country where there's lots of snow that probably looks like a postcard. You just need to have your niece with the big executive job in the big city come for a visit and fall in love with the local guy putting on the Christmas musical. Of course she decides city life is not for her and everyone lives happily ever after. Maybe I should write one!
I'm glad everyone is staying safe. Just a few more months and we should have access to vaccines. Our local hospital is supposed to be among the 1st to get the Pfizer vaccine. It will be great when they start distributing the vaccines.

LOL, we have had our our Xmas stuff up for nearly 2 weeks already and it helps!! Monday, we went out and got all our ingredients for making cookies. I assist in any way I can and we have fun doing them together. It's kind of nice having a stress free Holiday season. We will Zoom and open gifts with family but no party. Hopefully, with a vaccine, we can return to some kind of normal next year. We went to Hobby Lobby yesterday. The stores appear busy here as people continue to ignore the covid. Rikki was in and out but still enjoyed a real shopping experience. We also stopped at a local shop that carries beautiful items. People were masked and practiced distancing so was a nice experience. Of course, we did not leave empty handed and added to our Holiday decor. Thankfully, our family continues to stay healthy so we will continue to follow the science and be very careful. A happy, safe week to all

LOL, we are also overdosing on Xmas movies, both Hallmark and Netflix. Netflix has really upped their game and has wonderful holiday movies. I know it is blasphemy, but we think they are even better than Hallmark.

IBM, I appreciate your observation about our situation up here! I have to admit that it does feel like a picture perfect situation most of the time. We've cut our own tree for 42 years and the experience includes a ride on a hay wagon, a nice fire to warm up by and a a great ending with popcorn, cider and hot chocolate in a cozy room at the tree farm. We've done it in every kind of weather you can imagine, almost always with snow and cold. I treasure the memories of cutting the tree with our own girls and now our grandsons. Geezer, I'm aware that Netflix has quite a lineup of holiday movies but I don't have Netflix so would you please be so kind as to recommend some of your favorite titles? I can get copies of the movies through someone. One can NEVER have too many Christmas movies!

Wow! I'd never seen that before. They thank Samsung LEDs at the end but they should really thank those Border Collies. Those dogs are amazing.

My friend that was on the ventilator died last night. She was really a great person. She was very smart, kind, and fun. She and her husband travelled alot. I loved seeing all her adventures on Facebook. Even this year they took a lot of day trips to go hiking or for a motorcycle ride. I know they had been careful. I really don't know how they became infected.
Per capita, Indiana has the 2nd most hospitalizations.

...That was impressive!!!!!...
Do you have have trained dogs like that for your goats? Our lab seems to believe such controls are part of her 'job' when she and the beagle run around our yard. Barclay often seems to encourage Bailey until Bailey goes into her 'herding' mode. Then Barclay doesn't want all that attention at all. However, a few minutes later they repeat the event until both are finally tired of the game. Of course, we just watch without trying to control them. They are having too much fun to care about us. We are useful as providers of food and treats plus someone to open the door when they really need to get out!
