Well, it's definitely Monday. I woke up this morning and when I put my sneakers on they felt strange but I was in a hurry to get my daughter to the bus stop. It wasn't until I was outside in the rain--and why does it only seem to rain when I have to go to the bus stop?--that I looked down and realized there was something very wrong. I've been wearing my sneakers a lot more often lately, and I think that my hip issues have caused extra stress on my one sneaker because the sole was cracked! I'd never seen anything quite like it. Thankfully, I had an old pair of sneakers in my closet. Hopefully, these will last for a while. So how is your Monday going?

I'm home from vacation which was a wonderful time! Today I went and voted. I don't usually vote early because it usually takes longer than on election day, but my husband wanted to so I went with him. We stood in line outside about 15 minutes but couldn't tell how long the line inside was. Turned out we voted and were walking out the door 1/2 hour after we arrived. Not bad at all. This year they printed out the ballot, stuck that in an envelope, and had us drop it in the ballot box. We never had a printout before. I've heard people complain that they took their envelope home thinking their vote was already registered only to open it and see it was their ballot. I don't know if the printout is the actual vote or just a backup in case of a recount. Sounds like they need to make instructions clearer.
PTVJ, I had a shoe sole crack from one side to the other. Seems strange that yours cracked vertically.
Covid is going around the residents at the golf course I play at. I don't live there and haven't been around many because of Covid. I know they have all attended parties at each other's homes and gatherings at the clubhouse. Don't know if they are mostly outdoors, but now several have the virus. So far I don't know of anyone that has been hospitalized.
While on vacation I ate at restaurants for the 1st time, but only outside. Other times we took food back to the condo.

Wow, just found out a couple really good friends have Covid. Haven't seen them for a couple of months. We have been fortunate...no one we know has it. Winchester has about 26,000 population with just over 600 confirmed case and five deaths. People here are really good about wearing their masks. One son is a doctor in Minnesota and one daughter-in-law is a nurse practitioner here in Winchester. Both of them and their families are careful about strict compliance with guidance...especially the two medical professionals who constantly worry about 'bringing something home'.

Same old, same old here. Cases, hospitalizations, and deaths continue to soar with no relief in sight in Wisconsin. We had a good experience in the last week. On Thursday, we were cleaning and noticed water pooling under our hot water heater. We live in an apartment in a nice rental community. I emailed the office at 9:30 AM. At 10:30 AM, the maintenance man knocked at our door. By 12:30 PM, we had a new water heater installed. When he removed the old heater, he called a cleaning lady and she came in and scrubbed down the area where the heater was. He also fixed a toilet that was "whistling". Net cost $0.00. That is why old folks, like us, enjoy renting in a decent complex. It takes away a lot of worries for us and our kids. We went shopping and stocked up big time today. We plan on staying in til after the craziness of the election is settled. We have already voted and do not wish to be hassled by anyone. Be safe and have a happy week all

Found out yesterday that my grandson's elementary school has completely shut down as of 5PM yesterday. Not only does his first grade teacher have covid, but now at least 2 more teachers are infected and therefore, 2 more entire classes are quarantined for 2 weeks. So the health department said that's enough and closed the place down. I can't say I'm surprised. As Geezer said, Wisconsin is almost leading the nation in new infections. I wish they'd have all of the schools go virtual again until this comes under better control.

My grandkids just went back to school this week. My granddaughter wants to go back to virtual learning. She's annoyed that she can't mute her classmates.

My grandkids just went back to school this week. My granddaughter wants to go back to virtual learning. She's annoyed that she can't mute her classmates. I love that! My daughter seems to like doing the hybrid schedule (two days going to school, three days virtual). She says it's a good mix of getting to see people face to face (even with masks on) then being able to roll out of bed and be in class while still wearing her pajama pants. They just announced two more Covid cases at our high school, but they've already changed the high school to all virtual for the next couple of weeks. However, the numbers here in NJ are inching upwards, which is what was expected this fall. I'm just hoping we can keep it from getting out of control again. I will say that when we walk to the bus stop in the morning, everyone we pass on the street is wearing a mask. But I know people are having family get togethers where they seem to feel safe and I fear that's where the transmissions will happen.

I was hoping to finally go in my new kayak this morning after the weekly coffee meet up. However, my friend and I decided it was too cold to try this morning. After sitting outside in the shade( it's been so hot we always sit in the shade) for an hour we were ready to go home for hot chocolate instead of hit the cold river. It was in the low 50's this morning. Yes, I am now an Arizonian and that feels really cold. Especially when I was going to put on shorts to do the river. We decided to try again tomorrow afternoon. I am scheduled to fill in for St Vincent doing home food deliveries tomorrow morning but we will try about 1:00. I head out with my all women's camping group on Thursday to Catalina State park down by Tucson. It will be cold so I better make sure I have an extra blanket, coat, and long pants. Like everywhere else the temps took a dive real fast. I look forward to a few days without TV so I can escape reality and enjoy nature for a few days with my cats and friends. We have already changed how we normally do campouts so we stay distanced and safe.

I finally got to go out in my kayak. I'm now camping with limited wifi so i can't get a picture uploaded. I saw the Salt River wild horses, a river otter, and lots of birds. It was so peaceful.

Glad you finally got to enjoy your kayak! I'm just wondering what do you wear to keep dry and warm? The river must be real cold by now. Looking forward to your return to home so you can post a picture or two.

I wear a long sleeved top with built in sun screen ( I wear this hot or cold to keep the sun off) I wore the bottom half of a swim suit with shorts and a skirt, and i had on swim shoes as the river has lots of crap you can cut your feet on. It wasn't cold at all. 70' and the water didn't feel that cold. I wasn't getting all wet either.

Rikki and I went for a ride late yesterday afternoon to a Nature Center about an hours drive away. As Sandhill Cranes migrate to their winter grounds, they stop at Navarino on their way. At dusk, we saw thousands upon thousands of them landing in the marshlands where we were. The noise was deafening. It was AWESOME As a bonus, we also had a Trumpeter Swan land near us. They are a beautiful bird and rare to see in Wisconsin. We also saw Cardinals and Blue Jays which I enjoy. It was a really nice day at this stressful time and good for the soul

I am back home so I will post a good picture of my first Kayak trip. You can see some of the Salt River Wild horses that I am looking toweards. The mountains we call 4 peaks. In the winter when many of you are shoveling snow, I joke that I can see beautiful snow on 4 peaks but I don't have to shovel it or driving in that stuff
