Sorry to post this so late but it was a busier day than expected.
Our internet was out for a while but thankfully came back on.
Our furnace went out over the weekend. Surprisingly, I didn't think it was so bad but my husband and daughter complained about the cold. Then again, since I'm always cold I had some very thick sweaters to wear.
Today, we had to wait around for the repairman to come take a look at the furnace. They said they'd be here between noon and 4pm, and they got here about 3:45pm. The good news was they were able to fix it fairly easily and since we have a contract on the furnace, it didn't cost anything but the waiting around took up a good chunk of the day that had been meant for other things.
A funny thing happened this afternoon. I was in the bedroom and it almost sounded like someone was trying to break in through a window. I pulled the curtain to look outside and found myself looking at the belly of a squirrel. He was climbing the outer screen with a nut in his mouth.
We've been finding these nuts in the oddest places. There was one wedged into the handle of our back screen door a couple of weeks ago. My husband has been finding them in the space between the door handles of his Jeep, and in the small dip where the driver and passenger side mirrors attach to the doors. I had left a folded up camping chair on our back porch overnight and when I went to move it to the basement the next day, two nuts rolled out of it.
You'd think the squirrels could find better places to store these things as there are several trees surrounding our yard, and yet they keeping popping up in these strange locations. Anyone have any theories?
So let us know how your week has begun?

Wisconsin continues to spiral down the toilet as our cases and deaths rise and nobody cares. We made our annual trip to Costco yesterday and stocked up to the tune of almost $400.00. We went early but still very busy. We are REALLY going to stock up on groceries so we do not have to go out for about 2 weeks after Nov.3 as we have no idea what will happen if Trump loses. Of course, we are hoping for a peaceful turnover if Biden wins but who can say with a loose cannon like Trump. Tomorrow is our beloved twins 10th Birthday. No party but will drop off presents and we can Zoom later to watch them open gifts. LOL, we are ordering so many things online that we now recognize all the delivery people Now, that is just sad!! Have a good week everyone

Is 2020 over yet? I think we are finally over the triple digits for 2020. 145 days over 100. Crazy. We also only had one day of rain during the monsoon season this year. Too bad they can't send all of the rains from the multiple hurricanes out west. Out forests are so dry and the reservoirs are going to be very low also. I did get my ballot done and hand delivered to a drop box at the city office. I got an email and text today confirming they had received it. I am waiting to hear that my signature has been accepted. I have been doing a lot more reading, puzzles ( I found some of my small puzzles that I can do on my card table so the cats don't bother them as I can finish them in one sitting, making sewing projects cloth books and fish reading buddies. Anything so I don't have to watch TV and have to skip over the constant political adds. We are one of the target states so we get even more than most of you. My outside cat family is growing up fast. The kittens are now looking like grown up cats. I still feed then the same so hopefully they have found other sources to keep from going hungry. They still won't let me get too close. I can tough 2 of them if they are eating but the rest just run away. My neighbor has volunteered to feed them when I'm off on one of my camping trips once or twice a month. He just stays home and I think he likes the cats too. The Mom had her kittens in his backyard. He was glad they found a safe place as the coyotes are hanging around his back yard. The guy behind him had chickens...before the coyotes got them...so he thinks they are looking at his yard for more dinner. I will finally get something done with my back soon to hopefully make it better.

Do any of you have the Spotted Lantern Fly in your area? I hate these things. They were accidentally brought over from Asia but since they have no natural predators here, they thrive and can kill certain plants and trees. They're rather large and jump as much as fly. We've got so many of them here now that they've become a real pest. You can't be outside long and not spot one. Yesterday, I was enjoying the sunshine on my front porch when one of them flew into my hair. We're always trying to kill them but they jump away very quickly which makes it all the more annoying. Apparently it needs to get below 25 degrees F to kill them and their eggs. I'm not a fan of cold weather but when it does get that cold, I'll be consoling myself with knowing at least some of these buggers won't be back!

Okay, so a bit of a personal medical question...has anyone here had, or is close to someone who has had hip replacement surgery? Do you know of anyone who has done the double hip replacement (both hips done with one surgery)?
I have to make some decisions and I'm trying to gather as much information as I can.
Thanks.

PTVJ, I don't know how old you are and how physically active which could make a difference in your recovery. My sister, a sedentary person, had her 1st replacement at 66 in 2013. She went to a nursing home for a few weeks for daily physical therapy. She had her 2nd replacement surgery 2 years later and was sent home! My husband and I drove her to physical therapy twice a week (she lives alone) for 6 weeks. Someone we know who is in her 50s and very active had the surgery last year. We saw her a few days after the surgery and would never have guessed she had it done. She just had to be careful in how she sat down. I wouldn't recommend doing both at once unless it's medically necessary (JMO).

DrvrTrnr, I'm 49. I wouldn't call myself active but a year or two ago I was riding my bike anywhere from 2 to 5 miles, walking a mile or two for exercise, and getting to the gym twice a week. Nothing hardcore, but now trying to walk the few blocks to my local library has become a challenge. Some days navigating the one flight of stairs to my laundry room in the basement can seem daunting. My surgeon said hip replacement surgery is the only fix. I'm going to ask about the double because my insurance changes in January and I could end up having to switch doctors and possibly paying more out of pocket, but I don't even know if my surgeon will do it and I have heard that recovery is more difficult. At the same time, it would be nice to get through all of this with one surgery and recovery instead two spread out over the span of a year. I see my surgeon again in less than two weeks so I'm trying to get a list of questions ready. Thanks for the input. If anyone has anything else to add, please feel free!

The most important thing to me that I did this week was early vote in person on Monday!!!!! I had received my mail-in ballot but for sure was not going to trust mailing it based on what's going on, and could easily have dropped it off at town hall, but I just felt better knowing that I myself put my ballot in the box!!!!! We have a population of about 10,000 so highly unlikely there would be huge lines at any point anyway, but my friend and I were there right when they opened Monday morning and were #6 and 7 in line, we only had to wait maybe 15 minutes before we got to enter for our turn. Election day voting will occur in the town hall with more booths, etc., but early voting was held in a small building next door, there were only two booths but the process was quite orderly (I surrendered my mail-in ballot and received the in-person voting ballot), precautions and distancing were good. I hope for the workers' sake that things go smoothly for them throughout the voting process. nathanfan1 , so sorry you are getting snow this early. Now I'm wondering what/when your weather will finally make it to New England.....shudder!!!!!! ProudTVJunkie , my sister has had both hips replaced (age 65), but not at the same time. Had a little bit more difficulty with pain after her second replacement for a couple days, but she is a very determined woman, lives alone, and did quite well with both, I'm not sure if she stayed overnight at all, if she did it was only for one night because she wanted to be OUT OF THERE! I took her to her f/u visits and phys. therapy until she could drive herself. I agree with DrvrTrnr that doing both hips at the same time might not be wise, if indeed they would even do that. I'm certainly no expert since I haven't had it done, but I think you will need your upper body and your other leg to help compensate for your inability to use the hip replacement leg until it's healed and strengthened. I'm assuming the doctor took x-rays/scans of both hips which led to his saying that hip replacement was the only thing that would fix things? I think previously doctors were leery of doing hip replacements at a young age (yes, you are YOUNG!!!! ) due to wear-and-tear on components which would eventually require a second replacement? Maybe with new technology that's not the case? Or you have degenerative changes that are too far advanced for therapy or anything non-surgical to help? OK, that's it from me!

It's unfortunate receiving medical treatment depends on insurance companies approving procedures. Having to change plans and possibly doctors is a scary proposition. I hope you can at least get the worst hip done before the end of the year. As Fjordmom said, you are young and I would consider you physically active in the past. I wish you a full recovery.

DrvrTrnr and Fjordmom, thanks for your input. I had Lyme disease many years ago and they think that may be the reason for the early degeneration. It makes no sense to me that you go into surgery having very little idea how much your end cost will be. When I had surgery on my broken foot a couple of years ago, it took us many months to pay off what we owed, even with insurance. And yes, every year the insurance plans change. This year my husband's company is switching to a whole new insurance company with tiered plans. To keep the price we're paying now each month, we'd lose access to some of our doctors, and if the doctors are out of network insurance won't pay any of it. Right now my husband is reading through the book they sent us to try and figure out the best "tier" for us that we can still afford. It's really frustrating. But I feel like my grandmother when she was in her early 80s and broke her hip! As much as I'd like to get it all over with, I'm hoping to get at least one hip replaced before the end of the year.

Well, our school district has had the hybrid school schedule (part in-school, part remote learning) for almost two weeks now. Today, they announced that the high school has had 3 positive Covid cases this week, so the high school will be going to all remote learning for the next two weeks.
The other schools, 7 elementary, 2 intermediate, and 1 middle school, will remain with the hybrid schedule. There's also been one positive case in one of the intermediate schools (thankfully, not the one my daughter attends.)
I will say that I appreciate how quickly the school district is reacting and I'm hoping the two weeks will help stop the spread. Finger crossed!
