My kayak group takes great pictures of our Wild Salt River Horses. They just lost one of the stallions last week who was the one in charge of the herd for many years. He just had too many issues with his front legs and couldn’t go one. They left the body for the herd to grieve. They gathered around the body to say their goodbyes. It was very moving. I didn’t use that picture. This is another one of them in the river eating grass that grown in the river. www.jigsawplanet.com/?rc=play&pid=3c0f44d5815a

Thanks, Tycho, that was fun! Are these wild horses? Yes this is a wild herd of horses. There is a nonprofit group of Volunteer’s who watch over them. They try and manage the number of new foals with shots to the females. They have done a great job over the last few years. I am looking forward to using my new kayak to go on the river and see the herd eating their grass in the water.

Such beautiful animals! I'm impressed by the variety of their colors considering it's such a limited herd. Thanks, Tycho!

One of our local casinos is near the Salt River. In the past, we have seen a horse family grazing along the side of the road. The little ones are so cute and stay close to their momma.
