Is it really August 31st already? I know I’ve said this before, but where did the summer go? I can’t believe that the summer is over, maybe because it feels like we’ve been living in limbo and so little has changed since it began. I had a really fun project for work this week that reminded me of summers long past. HBO Max is showing a documentary titled Class Action Park that I was able to review. It’s about a water park, Action Park, in northern New Jersey that was open from the late ‘70s to the mid-‘90s. My Dad would take me, my sister, and our friends there frequently when we were teens. It was a wild place and we had so much fun, but watching this film makes me realize how lucky we were to never be seriously injured or killed. Here’s a link to my review which includes the trailer. www.tvfanatic.com/2020/08/class-action-park-part-nostalgia-part-horror-movie/I had a physical today and asked my doctor about getting the flu shot. Normally, they encourage people to wait until October, but this year they recommend getting it as soon as possible, so I got mine today. And then there are the Covid numbers: The state of NJ had 9,931 with 210 fatalities. My county had 218 cases with 10 more fatalities. And my town had 3 new cases and no fatalities Although the state's number of cases has held steady, the fatalities and all of the numbers for my county and town have gone down. This weekend, NJ is opening restaurants for indoor dining. I know some people are anxious to see this happen but I don't plan to be dining in a restaurant for quite some time. Okay, so how is your week going? Check in and let us know.

Voting by mail has been turned down in Indiana. You can get an absentee ballot if you fit 1 of 6 reasons to vote absentee. One reason is if you are a registered sex offender, but fear of Covid is not a valid reason. I will vote in person because there is no other option. If I am sick I will still be there. I know there will probably be lots of sick people in line because there is no other option. (We do have an early voting option but I have waited in line longer for that than I have on election day.) I also worry that so many mail-in votes are arbitrarily rejected for many reasons so that strengthens my resolve to vote in person.
I was in a golf tournament over the weekend and we had splendid weather! It was like fall with relatively low humidity and temps in the 70s & 80s. I am very fortunate that I can golf, see my friends without masks, and still maintain social distancing. I don't hang around afterwards like some do, but my life feels semi-normal. Most of my friends have pretty much returned to normal, going out to eat, having small get-togethers at their homes, hanging around their grandkids, traveling, doing pretty much what they did before but wearing masks now. I keep trying to stay away from people but my MIL keeps wanting to have family dinners at her house. I go to them but they make me nervous and I wish we wouldn't do them. It's only been about once a month but it still seems risky.

I am ready to start camping again. the first campout isn't until October I would not surivive with out my 2 cats. I don't but masks but I couldn't resist this one. I could personalize it. I got one for my daughter and her 2 cats also. I am still waiting for my RV carport to be installed. They keep saying "next week". that has gone on for about 3 weeks now I ordered a spin bike. That got to town but won't be delivered until the last week of Sept?? Good thing I'm not going anywhere. Arizona is doing better but still has a long way to go with Covid. 5031 deaths and 202,00 cases up 171 in the last day. Colleges and schools are starting to open up. We will see how long that lasts.

WISCONSIN
76,584(+5,730) Cases 1,130(+49) Deaths
BROWN COUNTY
5,469(+500) Cases 58(+1) Deaths
We just keep steadily going up in cases and deaths. Our graph just continues to rise with no letup in site. I thought it was disgusting that a guy at the RNC gave a speech and talked that the Covid was gone. Every statement was in the past tense. Really?? In what world is he living??
Our twins went back to school this week. They were excited and happy to go and were also very pleased with the clothes we bought them. We are all holding our breaths to see how long it lasts. One school that started a little earlier in our area is already closed because so many of the staff became ill. Not a good sign.
We played mini golf on the weekend and had a lot of fun. We did it with social distancing and masks where needed.
We made our pilgrimage and loaded up on groceries on Monday. Yesterday and today, they are repaving all the roads in our complex so we are staying put. Tomorrow, the weather is supposed to be nice so will take a ride. Friday, we are getting pedicures at a Salon that we know is careful. We are slowly venturing out but only to places that we find safe. No restaurant dining and we only get takeout from a couple places. It looks like we are going to be hibernating til 2021 which is a depressing thought. We are quite down about the whole thing.
Be Safe. Be Happy

Geezer, I sure share your concern about the grandkids going back to school. All 5 of ours started school Tuesday and our daughter and son-in-law are also back in their classrooms. Its frightening to think of how many people they are suddenly exposed to. We really don''t feel like we can risk any close contact with them now. It's depressing.

We are worried about our five grandkids also. The local schools [Winchester, VA] begin in another couple weeks...no idea why so delayed compared to other local school districts. The warning notice is already out that if circumstances change, it will be 'remote learning' immediately. The two kids here were home schooled their first few years. Currently, both are in the honors group for their class groupings. They are not at all excited about the possible loss of social contact with their age-groups if situation changes. The three 'Northern Holmeses' [Woodbury, MN] are in school classrooms which have really strict rules and also warnings about closing for immediate 'remote learning' if necessary. They want to continue classroom schooling too. I just cannot imagine what it would be like. I recall some almost voluntary [family imposed] limitations of activities during early 1950s polio epidemic. Of course, remote learning was not possible in the 'dark ages'.

Yesterday we went to the mall. It's the first time I've been back there since March. The only shoes my daughter had that still fit her were her sandals, and even though school is all online, I figured she was going to need something more substantial soon. So, off we went to try on sneakers.
I was actually pleasantly surprised by how well everything was run. Everyone wore masks, there was plenty of hand sanitizer offered (Bath and Body Works has even made their own hand sanitizer in lots of different, pleasant scents), and stores were careful about how many people were allowed in at any one time.
We met my cousin and her son at the mall as he needed sneakers too. We hadn't seen them since March and this turned out to be a nice way to catch up with, hopefully, minimal risk as we all had to wear masks the entire time.
Also, they gave us her son's violin. He had played violin in school but has since moved on to guitar. My daughter's school is offering musical instrument lessons this year, even online, and she's chosen the violin. I'm grateful my cousin offered us her son's, and it's nice not to have to run out and try to rent one. Kate is hoping she'll be good enough to get a seat in the school orchestra, whenever that actually happens again!

I went to go for a ride yesterday and my battery was kaput. The signs were there but I waited for it to die. Glad I was home when it happened. Jumped battery and off to Batteries Plus I went. I was surprised to pay roughly the same for the same battery that was in bike. It's been a few years and I expected a hike in price. I still got a ride in the afternoon. Stopped 4 times . Masks and distancing everywhere. I stopped at a Cheese Factory and got a couple blocks of cheese for us. Rikki enjoys Swiss and I am an aged Cheddar kind of guy. That's the 4th or 5th cheese factory I have been to this summer. They all make great cheeses. Being family run, the people are always friendly which is a welcome thing these days.
