Hi Everyone, How is this the last week of August? This summer just flew by! My husband had a half day of work today, and it's beautiful out, about 90 and sunny, so we took the roof panels off or his Jeep Renegade, turned up the music and took a drive. We didn't really go anywhere specific, but we stopped and got some sandwiches and then found a shady spot for a picnic lunch. My daughter was thrilled because she was able to get a special Chips Ahoy milk shake. It seems to have made her day. School doesn't begin until Sept. 8th here and it will be all online. They say it will be much more intensive than it was in the spring, plus my daughter is starting the Intermediate school where they switch classes, so we have no idea what to expect. My daughter started her Artists With Heart online art classes. So far she has three students and ran her first class last week. The kids seem to have had fun and the next class is tomorrow. Kate has about six weeks of lesson plans mapped out and practices them before each class. I'm rather impressed at how seriously she's taking this at only 10-year-old. I hope that no one here is anywhere near the wildfires. I have family in California. The fires are about an hour away from my Mom and about 3 hours from my sister. They say there is constant smoke in the air. My sister found out that a piece of property she sold about a year ago was completely destroyed by fire last week. It's in the hills and she and her husband lived there in an RV before their daughter was born. Thankfully, it sounds like everyone in that area was evacuated before the fire hit. Now it's your turn. Check in and let us know how you're doing.

We have smoke from the California fires visible in the skies. We have our own wild fires justNorth of me. Some of the major power lines coming to the valley run thru that area. I got solar panels installed this summer but I’m still waiting for the inspector to approve them so I can start using them. I bought a small freezer, about the same size as my RV freezer. I have been using my RV freezer but I thought with almost 50 days of 110 that is probably going to fry my poor RV freezer/fridge?? So it came today. It is currently getting cold. Tomorrow I will move stuff in from the RV and turn it off. My RV carport ,that I bought months ago, will hopefully be installed this week. It was manufactured in Texas and the factory was shut down a couple of times with COVID-19 outbreaks. It is definitely kitten season. We had 47 kittens in the Bottle Baby ICU when I went for my shift on Saturday. We got 14 more while I was there. We did have 3 puppies this week also.

Another 'yard day' until quick rain [.25 inch in 15 minutes] left humidity such that heat-index zoomed up to 100 about 1100. That was enough for me! If someone would develop grass that grows as fast as weeds, they would be rich and I'd be so pleased. Anyway, it is only 356 days until the '2021 Great Canada Fishing Adventure' begins [reservation already confirmed]. Hopefully, someone will have found the resolution to COVID-19 pandemic by then. I got my flu shot Saturday...again this year, I was first non-staff member to get the shot at local pharmacy. I have kept my shot record current since ROTC "Cadet" Holmes got his ROTC summer camp shots in 1960. Yeah, I am an inveterate pack-rat. It drives Dawn nuts but surprises her too when I can immediately find things from 'way back when'. Our 15 year old grand daughter was really pleased when she got to listen to the recording from our wedding in England in 1967. That led to Dawn and Grace spending an afternoon going through all the wedding photos plus began other photo scrap books. I heard lots of laughing and things like 'Omi, you looked so beautiful and happy.' 'Opi, you looked so skinny and had hair.' Our 'family names' come from nicknames from Dawn's British family and my Scandinavian, German, and British grandparents. One really nice thing about the complying with the pandemic restrictions is that we began some automated family link-up between our home, the 'local son' and family, plus the 'remote son' and family [in Minnesota]. Fortunately, no one is so foolish as to let me try to manage the computer video links. My computer skills are really limited; however, I am the only one who knows how to use a slide-rule! Stay safe and well. PS: I think this weekly chat-link was a brilliant idea. You are a fun bunch!

Wisconsin

Brown County

We are on a steady incline up. We ate in a place last Friday where none of the staff wore masks. That will not happen again. Have no idea what it will take to get people to wise up. Local paper ran an article stating that the resorts "up North" are having a banner year. The twins will be going back to regular school right after Labor Day. We are very worried for them as are their parents. The High Schools are having Fall Sports too.
Rikki's stomach was off for a couple days so I did groceries early this morning. Everyone was masked!
Tomorrow, we are going shopping to get twins each something cool for school like we do every year. It's a discount mall that is not enclosed and they only allow so many masked people in each store at one time. Some of the stores even mark traffic patterns on the floor. We will get box lunches and eat in a park which we enjoy doing too.
We just finished watching the Miss Fischer's Mysteries on Acorn. Now, it is on to Line of Duty, Midsommer Murders, and 800 Words. They are English shows from PBS and elsewhere. Acorn carries all the seasons so we can see everything in order. Acorn is very reasonable and carries a LOT of really quality entertainment.
I also hope to sneak in a ride this week
Have a nice week all

Hi, If you can find 'Foyle's War' with Michael KItchen, be sure to watch that. Best BBC series I have seen! Hopefully Acorn includes that among its options. Of course, if 'Sherlock Holmes' with Jeremy Brett appears, don't miss that either. Nevertheless, watch 'Foyle's War' as first priority. See you.
PS: Guess who the fool is who got into poison ivy.

larryholmes, I’m so sorry about the poison ivy! Growing up, I had a friend who would get horrible cases of poison ivy. The odd part was, we’d play in the same places and I never got it. My mother says she played in the woods all the time as a child and never got it, so maybe we’re just not as susceptible. geezer2008, I’m glad you still get to take your grandkids back to school shopping. Every year, either my mom has tried to fly out here during August, or we’ve gone to visit her in California, and she and my daughter have a back-to-school shopping spree. As I like to say, the shopping gene skipped me, but my Mom and daughter both really enjoy it. I know my Mom is pretty depressed that she can’t do it this year. She promised to buy my daughter something online, but it’s certainly not the same. As for TV, Kate, Todd, and I are currently binge-watching Wicked Tuna: Outer Banks. A while back, iTunes had the first six seasons on sale for $10. We’re currently on season 4. I never realized how large blue fin tuna are! It’s been more fun than I expected watching the different boats compete each season and my family now knows more about fishing than we ever expected to.

It’s actually easy to leave them so far. This is my 3rd season feeding the kittens. I started doing this to get my kittens. I like to start with kittens so I can get them use to traveling early. now I have my 6 outside cat family so I guess I am becoming the cat lady after all.

So nice to hear everyone is doing well! We finally have gotten some relief from the heat and humidity and yesterday was my kind of weather....low 70s, sunny, low humidity and BREEZY ....GREAT working weather! My energy level ratchets up with that kind of weather. I got my third kid a week ago...he had a rough couple days since the other two kids had already been here for 2 months and definitely bonded. Lots of "crying" out and he definitely got roughed up by the other two kids in the stall....but things quickly settled out and everyone is getting along fine. There's always a pecking order and a bit of shoving, but when the new kid catches up growthwise, he'll be able to give it back! It's a bit of a 3-ring circus when I put them in for the day, as I have to get the 3 kids "lassoed" on leads so I can hang on to them, let the 3 older goats into their stall, then let the kids into the other stall. I haven't fallen down YET, but it is a madhouse because they're all running in circles around me, sometimes even through my legs. My new back stairs and landing are complete...and beautiful! I so far have come up with bare-bone approaches to projects (last year was my screened porch) but thanks to my son's input, and a carpenter who was easy to work with, the end result has been waaaaaaaaay better than my initial idea. It, of course, costs a bit more, but I'm at the point in my life where this is it, at my age I won't get any more second chances, so I'm very happy! I just need a couple back-to-back days without rain or humidity so I can stain the wood. I have friends in Chico, CA (who usually visit me both summer and Christmas holidays, but NOT this year ). They are within city limits so fire has so far not been an issue for them personally, but the heat, humidity and SMOKE/air quality has really been tough, especially since they like to hike and be outdoors. Take care everone!

Sorry about the poison ivy, Larry. No fun at any age We will check out Foyle's War too!
So nice that your summer is going well, Jane
We had a great day shopping yesterday and finished up at Kohls this morning. Lots of distancing and masks in evidence. We will stay home for a few days now except for my motorcycle ride on Saturday. Our summer is going fast now. Only about 5-7 weeks left for riding now. I'm getting too old to freeze my butt off
