Hi All,
How is everyone doing this week? I'm getting ready to go grocery shopping and perhaps get the oil changed on my car. Exciting times!
Yesterday I was video chatting with my sister (she's in CA while I'm in NJ). Her 3-year-old, Raven, started online preschool and loves it. There are videos and lessons about shapes and colors, and things like brushing your own hair, brushing your teeth, and going to bed routines. The funny thing is that Raven quickly learned how to access everything on the computer by herself. My sister laughs that her toddler can run a Zoom meeting better than most of the people she works with.
I have a former colleague who now lives in the Atlanta area and she's waiting on her Covid test. She was feeling under the weather and then couldn't taste her food. She's quarantining in their guest room while her husband tries to keep their two young kids (8 and 11) calm. We're all hoping this just turns out to be a bad case of allergies, fingers crossed.
I have lots of writing to get done this week so I better get moving.
Please check in and let me know how your week is going.

Ah yes, youngsters with computers, cell phones, electronic whatevers, etc. My granddaughter [15 years old] is becoming impatient with me and the recurring need for my 're-education'. My cell phone is an Apple iPhone 5S...no, I don't want one of big clunky 'modern' phones. My laptop is a Dell Inspiron. I don't dispute her comment when she says that I am proof that the most dangerous thing ever is an eighty year old guy with a laptop and a cell phone.

Wisconsin
66,196(+5,135) Cases 1,039(+41) Deaths
Brown County
4,505(+341) Cases 55(+1) Deaths
Our numbers go up as testing decreases due to lack of supplies. The biggest hospital system in WI is performing elective surgeries with no covid testing. The only people being tested are people who come in with symtoms. The president will be elated as the numbers decline due to lack of proper testing. Late Fall and winter should just be very scary in our nation.
We had to go down to Milwaukee area again yesterday. It was a beautiful day for a drive. We took care of business, ate in a "safe" restaurant, and visited a beautiful park. A nice day.
Tomorrow, we get our haircuts and register to get absentee ballots for Wisconsin at the city hall next door to the salon. A quick stop at Meijers for a couple groceries we need and back in our cave for the rest of the week.
Between Netflix and Acorn, we are entertaining ourselves nicely. LOL, but we can avoid almost all of the political ads that way. We DVR the few things we watch on regular TV and zip through the commercials. We have a list of things to watch which will outlast Covid
Have a good week All

I don't dispute her comment when she says that I am proof that the most dangerous thing ever is an eighty year old guy with a laptop and a cell phone. It is always hard to get use to a new phone. My note 8 has started to have some issues. The sound sometimes doesn't work right and people can't hear what I'm saying. With only one phone to use I need one that works. I will get a new Note 20 Ultra this Friday. I ordered in Aug 5th. I hope it will work well and not be too hard to transition too from my old one. I do have an old desktop. The monitor doesn't have a camera or microphone it's so old. I have to use my phone or iPad to do any video chats. I should probably get a new monitor with a camera and microphone so I can do them from the desktop and have a bigger screen? For years my grand kids would come to me for tech advice. Now things are changing too fast and I don't have the need to keep up. I got my first monsoon rain last night along with big winds, dust, and lightning & thunder. I had to collect leaves this morning on my swim as many had blown in last night during the storm. I am now on a regular schedule for my Bottle Babies at the humane society. It is so nice to have at least one of my volunteer gigs back. The MIM (Musical Instrument Museum) is now open but they are not letting volunteers work yet. Hopefully they will let us back soon. I ordered a spin bike for the house. I loved my spin classes at the gym. It was the only real exercise that I get as I have a bad back and can't run or do walking. I figured why not get one for the house. I can do it here and not have any excuses. With covid they will "drop it at the door" but they can't come in and set it up. So...I have the you tube video of how to set it up ready to go. Wish me luck. It will hopefully get here in a week or 2.

tycho657, you should consider getting a Chromebook. All of the kids have them for school. They're a laptop that is mainly used for just being on the web, video, etc, and are usually geared to run off the google platform. They come in different screen sizes and memory and cost anywhere from $250 to $600 depending on the version you choose. My Dad has one and loves it. Of course, I love my MacBook Air, but it's much more expensive as it is able to do the functions I need for my job that wouldn't work on a Chromebook. But if you just need the basics, a Chromebook is a much cheaper choice. Also, I'm glad you're still working with the bottle babies. As someone who used to manage an animal shelter, I can tell you that having volunteer willing to come in and take of that is a God send. The staff usually has a lot to do already and having to stop to bottle feed small kittens takes up a lot more time than most people realize.

I found out Pence was in town yesterday. He was within 200 yards of my house and I had no idea. Fortunately I didn't need to go any where. Roads were blocked for hours. My hubby had a heck of a time getting home!

My hubby had a heck of a time getting home! We don't live very far from a Trump Gold Course. From time to time we have fighter jets fly over head and we've all gotten kind of used to it. Last week, I heard them go by once, twice, then a third time, and it was loud. I went outside, as did many of my neighbors. You couldn't see them because of the low cloud cover, but you could hear them circling and then we saw a bunch of flashing lights in the sky. We later learned that there was an unauthorized aircraft in the area and they were convincing them to turn back. It definitely got the attention of everyone on the ground!

As usual, you got all the rain. We just had dust and wind. It was misty for about two minutes, nothing more. This may be the driest monsoon ever. It's already been the hottest summer.
194,920 cases and 4,529 deaths. One school district has had so many teachers call out that they even cancelled online learning. Their schools were supposed to open this past Monday. People are getting very upset because there is no direction from the governor. Instead, he's leaving opening decisions up to each district. The guidelines listed a couple weeks ago are just that. Nothing is required!

Well, our school district just announced that they are applying to the state to delay in-person classrooms. Instead of the hybrid schedule, we will be all virtual until at least October, maybe November. I just saw lots of parents complaining about it on Facebook but I'm glad the school district is taking this seriously, even though my daughter is very depressed about it. At this point, she'd happily wear a mask and sit behind plexiglass just to get back to school.

Our school was delayed for 2 weeks. They are phasing them in this week then everyone has to go back on Monday. My kiddos are out of school but I talked to a friend today. They were required to fill out a form if their kids needed to ride the bus this year (not a normal occurrence). She filled out the form and emailed it in and got a message that it was received. She just found out earlier this week that her kids don't have the required bus passes. She called and was told they didn't even have a record of her daughter who has been riding the bus for the last 6 years. They told her they could put her on the waiting list but it was long. She talked to supervisors and did everything she could to try to resolve this. She has no idea what she will do because she can't leave work every day to pick up her kids. They also said they would be adding more lunch sessions to help with social distancing. I don't know how that will work. When my kids were there they had to eat lunch at 10:30 and only had 20 mins which included standing in line to get their food. Will they start eating lunch at 9? Nothing seems well thought out. On a brighter note, my son finally got a job offer yesterday in his field (he graduated 2 years ago but couldn't find anything so wound up at FedEx). He's excited, we're excited. I certainly hopes this works out well for him.

I had to bite the bullet and get a new phone. My Note 8 was starting to have issues with people not being able to hear me My square trade insurance only lasts for 2 years so it stopped a year ago. I got the new Samsung Note 20 Ultra. I was able to get my same case so I can carry my credit card, license, medical cards and $20 . I stopped carrying a purse a few years back. This gets me most places. So far it looks like it works very much like the last model except it has a faster chip and much better camera. It is ready to use 5G. I saw the chip when I moved my micro SD card from my old phone. I can keep most pictures and videos on the SD card so the phone never runs out of memory. I think I will take a ride out to the Salt River and the Tonto National Forest tomorrow and try the camera out.

It's a GOOD week.
We both got our haircuts at the same salon on Wednesday. Rikki looks great and I'm "scalped" to perfection. They did everything right corona wise which we appreciated
Yesterday, we drove down to Mequon to pick up our car. A Subaru dealer here in GB REALLY botched up a recall on our 2019 Subaru Ascent. After going back and forth with them, we finally took the car back to the dealer where we purchased it. They kept the car on Monday, gave us a free rental , and did the job right , and tested it all. When we picked up the car yesterday, they took the time to explain everything to us and told us to come back if we had ANY problems or questions. What a difference in dealers. We were impressed. Net Cost was 0 because of warranty. On the way home, we stopped and ate outdoors on Lake Michigan at a place we enjoy. The social distancing was done right but the servers did not wear masks which we did not care for. We will not be going back because of that. It makes us sad when folks refuse to honor the mask mandate. Otherwise, we enjoyed our day out.
On a down note, my SIL got laid off. His boss does not believe that the corona virus is real and is just pissed that he can't send Mike to Canada once a month like he used to. What a jerk. My daughter earns a substantial salary so they are fine. Just won't be able to live quite as nice as before. She will be home working til 2021 which we are happy for.
