PTVJ, teachers in two districts are resigning because their school boards voted to reopen schools Monday. This in a state with a teacher shortage. Many parents will keep their kids home and continue online learning. I thought NJ had a lot more people than AZ, but like you said, we're a lot more spread out. Over half of the people live in Maricopa County, which includes Phoenix. That's why we have the majority of cases and deaths. We have had a teacher shortage for a few years already. When I retired I knew this was going to happen. My generation would all be retired in the next few years and there was a big gap between my generation and the new teachers. The teachers in the middle age group had moved on to careers where they could make a living wage. Arizona is one of the he lowest paid states for teachers. Retired teachers from other states were getting more in retirement money than full time teachers were here. And what will they do when the few teachers we do have get sick or exposed? Do they think retired teachers will come back and chance getting sick?

New Jersey has some of the highest paid teachers in the country, and while I do think the school system is doing everything they can to make this safe, I doubt all teachers will be coming back. Any who are close to retirement must be seriously considering doing so. And I know one teacher who battled a brain tumor less than two years ago and another who is in remission after cancer treatments. I have to think they might bow out this year.
Plus, teachers will be teaching half the class in-class and the other half virtually AT THE SAME TIME! I can't even imagine how difficult that might be. It really is going to be quite a challenge for everyone involved.

In better news, my daughter and I just began reading Anne of Green Gables, which should make nathanfan1 happy since it's is one of her favorite books. At night, we try to read a chapter of a book before bed. Usually we'll switch off, one night I'll read, the next night she'll read. In the last two to three years we've read the entire Little House on the Prairie series, The Harry Potter series, and most recently, Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. I thought P & P might be too much for her but we watched the movie (Keira Knightly version) and once she heard their was a book she insisted we read it. We've now read the first two chapters of Anne and Kate already loves it. I've never read this one either so we'll be learning as we go. As there seems to be several books in this series, I'm guessing it will keep us going through the fall.

I'm so happy to hear that you're reading Anne of Green Gables, PTVJ! I've never had a character jump off the page the way Anne did for me.
