How is everyone doing this week? We're doing well. We've gotten lots of surveys and questionnaires from our school district about the upcoming year. They're asking what we think about more online learning, in school learning, a hybrid of the two, rotating schedules, busing, etc. They need to come up with their final plans by the end of the month and I don't even know what to hope for. I'd love for the kids to go back to school but it doesn't seem safe, for the kids or the teachers, administrators, and bus drivers. I'm very curious to see what plans they come up with. So far, our county has a total of 4,475 cases and 466 fatalities. We've had 148 new cases and 19 deaths so far in July. New Jersey has a total of 175,522 cases with 13,613 fatalities, that's 3,594 new cases so far in July which is far better than what a lot of other states are seeing right now. What worries me more is that my small town has had six new cases in two weeks. I fear people are getting lax. My daughter was invited to go to an amusement park with some friends. They said that the park requires masks to get in but you can take them off once you're on the rides. I don't think that screaming and laughing while sitting next to other people is the safest idea, so I said no. geezer2008, please keep us updated on your family. Hopefully, they weren't actually exposed to the virus. This is definitely a strange summer.

Today is the 16th day of 90 or higher. Record here is 18 days. Humidity also has been very high resulting in 'heat index' of 100 or greater almost every day. So, weeding, digging, and whatever is 'volun-told' begins at 0600-0700. Dawn is right there the whole time; so, I have really enjoyable companionship. We break for lunch and return to the-great-outdoors from 1500 to 1700-1800. Dogs generally stay out with us...watching from the shade of course! '2020 Great Canada Fishing Adventure' was officially cancelled [USA/Canada border still closed for '...non-essential travel...' and apparently will be for some time]. Honestly, the idea of a flight from Dulles Airport to Minneapolis for an 80 year old guy who has had pneumonia [maybe twice] was a really concern. Too many people not wearing masks or staying properly apart for each other. Nevertheless, reservation for 14 August - 28 August 2021 has been confirmed. Delta Airlines has 'banked' my cancelled reservation for my use next year. My brother is counting down also. Only 398 days until '2021 Great Canada Fishing Adventure' begins!!

larryholmes, I'm so sorry about your trip being cancelled, especially not getting to spend the time with your brother, but given everything, it's probably for the best. We had to cancel our trip to visit my mom and step-father this year, and I know my Mom is very sad at not being able to visit with her granddaughter. They usually visit us at Christmas but right now, even that is questionalbe. During the annual trip to my Mom's, we usually also see my sister's family who live about 5 hours away from them. My daughter is really missing the yearly visit with her cousin, but this year it just can't be helped. We do video chats, which I'm grateful for, but it's not quite the same. We had the 90+ degree weather all last week, but I like the heat and don't have to work outdoors so I'm fine with that. Years back, I was a courier with FedEx. I remember during one heatwave it was 107 degrees! I kept a small cooler filled with iced water in the back of the truck (there was no air conditioning). The frozen water bottles would completely melt about half way through my route. One day, I remember I was so hot that I could literally feel the ice cold water inside me as I drank it. It was a very odd feeling which is why it's still so memorable. But this week we're only looking at mid to high 80s and only about 50% humidity which is close to perfect by my standards.

My daughter's MIL & FIL both have Covid. FIL has no symptoms, but things escalated quickly for MIL. She went to the hospital and just over 24 hrs later was put on a ventilator after they tried several other things to get her O2 levels up. The nurse said she would likely stay on it for around 2 weeks. It's so scary! My daughter's family hadn't seen them for a couple of months so that is good.

This virus seems so random. Some people get it with almost no symptoms while others have the extreme opposite. I've known two people, (one the ex-husband of my friend, another a friend of my parents), who were positive and ended up on ventilators. They both managed to recover, so keep the faith and we'll all be pulling for them here!

As we progress through this pandemic more and more people are knowing people who have been impacted.
Larry I’m sorry your trip got cancelled. I’m not surprised. Hopefully they can get a treatment by next year so you can travel again.
Pete I pray your family only gets mild symptoms. You have been so good staying in during this pandemic.
Inmjas I pray your MIL can get off the vent soon and return to her family.
I took 2 weeks to escape to the mountains with my 2 cats. There were a couple of nice monsoon storms with some nice rains. The forests sure needed the rains. There was a fire from the first storm. Lightning started a small fire, only about 80 acres. There was one helicopter crash. There was only the pilot but he did die. I didn’t interact with people very much. If I did it was outside at a distance. Arizona had a heat wave back at my house with days of 110+ days we even had a new record for the overnight low of 94. I liked that because when I got back my pool warmed up so my 5:30 morning swim felt so nice😎 The afternoon swim the water is too warm... My outdoor kitties have returned. I trapped them the day I left with a friend who works with a local cat rescue. They were all fixed and returned. I had not seen them on my ring camera that is out by my pool for a few days but they knew I was back and have returned. Poor babies were so hot. I saw “Salmon” yesterday afternoon stopping to eat and his mouth was open panting. Cats don’t sweat so that is how they cool off.

First things first Thank you, Bobbie, for the prayers and Christine for the well wishes. My family got their results yesterday and all tested negative. We are so very Thankful and relieved Believe it or not, but they are going to restart the league. Our kids said no way were they going to put Little Pete in that position again.
Wisconsin
37,906 (+5,845) cases 826(+30) deaths
Brown County
3,305(+256) cases 45(+3) deaths
Our numbers continue to rise more rapidly than before, and, still, MANY people refuse to mask or social distance. I have no idea what it will take for people to wise up. It just makes us very sad and disappointed in our fellow man. Are people so arrogant that they do not think covid will touch them??
We did our 2 week groceries yesterday and stocked up. Lots of masks and distancing as we shop early in the day. We feel safer that way.
We are going to kid's house for picnic this afternoon. They just got tested and we have been very careful so will take the chance. It will be our only chance for ages as my SIL's mother takes no precautions at all. She lost her husband in the last year and doesn't care if she gets ill or not. I wish she would think about passing it on to others but she doesn't.
I went on a 175 mile motorcycle ride on Monday. It was great. I bought gas at the pump and my lunch from a grocery store. Mask and sanitizer, of course. Stopped in some great county parks and had a fun day.
Hot and sticky will return for the next week. LOL, I know it is hard for you folks from the South and West to understand but this is NOT typical weather for us in the summer. Hot and sticky is as hard on us as a blizzard would be for you! Our weather is usually more temperate
Nuf said. Stay Safe, Stay Well

ibmjas, I'm sorry to hear about your daughter's MIL and FIL. Luckily she has you for moral support. geezer, it's good news that your family tested negative. Whoever runs the little league should really rethink starting up again. A lot of parents take playing way too seriously.
Our daughter's wedding was Saturday. She was a beautiful bride and so happy it finally happened. The wedding chapel was tastefully decorated and the ceremony was very nice as well. Never having been to a Vegas wedding before, we didn't know what to expect. No Elvis impersonator, lol. The photographer took a lot of pictures so my daughter and her husband will have many good memories. There could be only 20 people max in the chapel, so it was a small gathering. We all had a good time. Masks were required everywhere, with signs posted throughout the two casinos we went to. We're glad to be home and plan on staying close to home in the foreseeable future.

DrvrTrnr, glad the wedding went so well. It's hard to have normal celebrations now with the world turned upside down.
I watched a show about Bindi Irwin's wedding, the Crocodile Hunter's daughter. They planned to have a beautiful outdoor wedding at the Australian Zoo with 200 friends, family, and celebrities, many from the US in April. Then the shut downs started in March. They moved it up a couple of weeks and decided just to have local family and friends and cap it at about 20. A couple of days before the wedding the govt announced more restrictions saying weddings could only have the officiant and witnesses. They decided just to have the wedding the next day. They almost had everything set up that day at their beautiful outdoor venue when paparazzi starting flying over low in helicopters scaring the animals. They decided to move everything indoors. As soon as it was all set up indoors, they were married. I felt so bad for them, but they seemed to take it all in stride saying the most important thing was to get married and start their lives together. I guess this is the year for going with the flow and lowering expectations.
