I hope those in the U.S. had a nice holiday weekend. Ours was pretty low-key. We remained home and grilled in our own backyard. Then we watched the 1996 movie "Independence Day" that evening. Our normal county fireworks display was cancelled. Our neighbors were setting off some illegal fireworks but we didn't bother to watch. It's been in the 90s with about 50% humidity. I love the weather like this! I can't believe that it's already July. It feels like the summer is flying by, despite the Covid-19 restrictions. Let me know how all of you are doing out there.

Wisconsin
32,061(+4003) cases 796(+19) deaths
Brown County
3049(+224) cases 42(+0) deaths
Our cases are going up more rapidly but deaths and hospital numbers are not rising rapidly. It seems as if people don't care which is just sad.
We had a nice week. Had takeout and went for a ride last Thursday. In the evening, we went to "Little Pete's" baseball game. They are trying to do it right with only 1 parent and social distancing. It was fun and he was happy we came. On the 4th, we made our favorite foods and watched NY and Capital 4th fireworks.
Today, I have to take car in for Recall work. They say 3 hours so will sanitize a comfortable chair, wear my mask and maintain distancing as best I can. I have books to read and my phone to play with. Tonight is another game for the little guy. We are doing the best we can to be safe but this "new normal" stinks.
Thursday is supposed to be Book Club but I think they will move the date. We were going to meet in a park but it has been like a sauna outside for days and is supposed to remain through next weekend. High 80's, low 90's, and HIGH humidity and dew point. Not fun for us when our normal high is 78 at this time of year
To all of you, be safe and be happy this week

I had a peaceful 4th in the mountains. This RV Park is the place for off road buggies. I’m about the only person who doesn’t have one. That just doesn’t appeal to me. I love the peace and quiet of the forest. To ride around in a loud (I don’t think they have mufflers. ) and listen to that noise would not be fun. They did have a nice parade of buggies on the 4th. They were lit up with lights and blaring patriotic music. I did not hear any fireworks here🎊😍 I did look at COVID numbers today. I knew Arizona was going crazy. 101,455 cases with 1829 deaths. The hospitals are almost full and many are already at capacity. The governor did finally shut down a few things. One of the local fitness gym business refused to shut down and went to court. To me gyms sound like a bad place to be at this time. People are working out so breathing hard and sprewing out lots of droplets around the fitness center. I’m enjoying the cooler mountain air where I can put a blanket on at night and sit outside and enjoy nature. Down in the valley it’s going to be 110’ s for the next week.

Our youngest daughter has a subscription to Disney + so my husband and I watched 'Hamilton' Saturday night. What an ambitious production, but it wasn't our cup of tea. I didn't know the dialogue was in rap form, although there was singing, too. We would've been disappointed had we paid theater prices to see it (JMO).
The virus and death numbers have increased since Teresa posted earlier: 105,094 cases (67,543 of those in my county) and 1,927 deaths (933 of those in my county). The director of the state health department has now made a PSA about staying in, washing hands, wearing masks, and social distancing, but still no statewide mask mandate. The court is expected to rule today on the lawsuit filed by a couple gyms. They refused to shut down and were fined.
Our daughter's wedding is this weekend and we leave for Vegas Friday morning. Masks are required in public in Vegas, and the hotel has sent us an email reminding us about the restrictions. I'm glad they're taking this seriously. We don't plan on being out and about like on a regular trip to Vegas. This one will be very different.
I hope everyone is finding ways to enjoy yourselves while staying safe.

I've been following eveyone's updates, it's so nice to hear how things are going for others. It's been a busy few weeks for me. Still healthy, following guidelines, but Massachusetts did start allowing outside dining, so a friend and I went to one of our favorite brew pubs a couple weeks ago. Not sure what's happening now, but we had to make a reservation for the deck, they suggested we look over the menu so we didn't waste time doing that as seatings were only for an hour (This was no problem for us, we've been there so many times in the past we knew exactly what we wanted!!!). We were able to stay a bit beyond that, and there was only one other table occupied besides us. However, I have to say that the experience left me depressed. In the good old days, the bar would be full, along with the tables in the bar area, the brewing tanks would often be being tended to, and the restaurant full. To have it completely deserted as we walked out to the deck was sad. Understandably the wait staff minimizes customer interaction (staff all wore masks, anyone dining had to wear mask until they were seated). I don't think I'll be going back until hopefully some day we do get back to "normal". Part of the fun of dining out is enjoying some camaraderie with patrons and staff and the general hubbub. At this point, even though I LOVE outside dining, I don't think I'll be doing much of it, and will just stick to takeout and eating at home on my nice screened porch! I am close to checking off another important aging-in-place project on my list. The carpenters this year were QUIET, hard-working and meticulous with their work. The exterior of the house is now repaired (new window trim, repairs to various rotted areas of the house siding, new back steps away from the roof drip edge so I can actually use them in the wintertime). Hope to get someone lined up for house painting next year. AND, best of all, I have increased my goat herd with two more Nigerian dwarf kids which I got about a month ago. I will post their pics in the Because It Brings Me Joy thread. I also put a deposit down on another kid who will be ready to come here in late August!!!!! And that will be it!!!! At least for this year . Hope all of you stay well and enjoy the summer!

It was my husband's birthday and he had the day off, so we took a drive to a very pretty county park about a half an hour from us. It had lots of walking paths and a very pretty stream. In a different section of the park is an old mansion that's been turned into a resort. We were hoping to at least drive by it but they had signs near the entrance that said "Private Property - No Trespassing - Violators Will be Prosecuted" so we turned around. As we were driving away a red Ferrari passed by us and went right in. My daughter quipped, "I guess people in Ferraris aren't considered trespassers." LOL.
Afterwards, we picked up take-out from one of our favorite restaurants and dropped some of it off at my mother-in-law's. We left it on her doorstep and called her. She came out and took the food and left my husband's birthday present. It kind of felt like we were making some sort of illegal black market exchange.
We talked to my mother-in-law for a little while as she was on her balcony but it makes me sad that we haven't had any real interaction with her since March. I know she misses us but she is older and has health issues (many years ago she survived a brain tumor) so she doesn't want to take any chances and I don't blame her.
Then we drove home and had ice cream cake!
This has felt like a very odd week. Lots of highs and lows and we're barely halfway through. I hope everyone else is having a good day.

We've had a busy couple of weeks at our house. We built the place 36 years ago and decided that it was time we replaced the windows and patio door. Last week a crew came in and did the entire job in 2 days but getting things ready for them was a bit of a job for us. We had to wait until this week to have another person come and stain and seal all of the new woodwork. Now we have to get all of the window dressings back up and furniture and such moved back into place. We're very happy with the new look!
As Geezer said, it's been a solid 2 weeks now of high temps and very high humidity and I can't stand being outside in those conditions. I'm very thankful for the AC! Steve has been trying to put up hay under those conditions and that's not fun either. We haven't seen much of anybody else lately. It's too hot for the kids to ride the horses or run and play in the yard. I sure wish this heat would break!
For the Fourth, we usually have a cookout with the family at my oldest daughter's house. This year, they grilled out and made all of the typical foods but just brought the food over to us. It was a nice treat but we sure missed seeing everyone. With the summer roughly half over already, I'm being forced to admit that we aren't going to get anywhere close to back to normal any time soon. I'm trying to stay positive and be thankful that we're all healthy, but this way of living is getting old!

Book Club was moved to a hopefully cooler day in 2 weeks. The heat will break by then, we hope. We will get lunch takeout instead and go for a ride as our "adventure" this week. Little Pete has a game tonight too. LOL, a really big day for us

I'm curious, geezer2008. What book are your reading for Book Club?

I'm curious, geezer2008 . What book are your reading for Book Club? LOL, that's a loaded question, Christine. We have a club where you can read anything you want. It's a fun way to do it as you find out about all kinds of books. My selections this month are Wrath of Poseidon by Clive Cussler & Robin Burcell and Hush by James Patterson & Candice Fox.
Because of Covid, I am reading a LOT this year. I am almost done with rereading all the Castle novels and that has been fun. Works in progress include The Alex Cross series by Patterson, Dirk Pitt series by Cussler, and the Pike Logan series by Brad Taylor. I'll also sneak in anything that sounds fun. For next month, I'm going to read The Hungover Games by Sophie Peawood.

OMG, We just heard from SIL that a boy on Little Pete's baseball team tested positive for Covid. Mike, Amanda, and the twins are getting tested tomorrow and going into quarantine for 2 weeks. We sat behind the outfield fence and did not get close to players or other family members. The closest we got was 4-5 feet from Little Pete. Please say a little prayer for my family.

Last week my brother and sister-in-law came in from upstate NY and stayed the week. The whole family went to grandma's for dinner. 10 of us were bunched up around the dinner table. Friends came over another night to see them. Everyone was hugging. While it was great to see everyone, I thought it was a bad idea. If anyone had the virus, I'm sure we will all get it but so far so good.
We still have fairly low positive cases and deaths. Restaurants and bars have been open for a few weeks and are now at about 75% capacity. I saw that several restaurants have just this week shut down again temporarily because customers or wait staff tested positive.
I know some people that have been tested. They say they must wait 2 weeks to get results. No one wants to stop working on the off chance they have the virus. Does everyone have to wait that long? I know the president gets tested every day and ball players are supposed to get tested every 2 days. They surely aren't waiting 2 weeks for results. Is it the same in other states?
County fireworks were cancelled but the golf course had some. They were really good but not nearly like the county's.
It's been very hot (in the 90s) and muggy often with little or no breeze. While I'm fortunate I don't have to work outside in this heat, I'm dumb enough to spend about 5 hours out in it to golf with my friends 2 or 3 times a week.
Our DVR is typically loaded with shows we need to catch up on. There are very few shows left on it. We just finished Ozark (on Netflix) which I thought I would hate but I really got wrapped up in their lives. I saw Hamilton on Disney+. It was really good. I am amazed that Lin was able to get backing on such an unusual subject matter getting told in mostly rap, but I saw his pitch at the Obama White House with the opening song and he was quite a salesman.
I'm also working on my 3rd jigsaw puzzle.
