Hi All,
Monday is the Memorial Day holiday here in the U.S. and my daughter has Monday, plus Tuesday and Wednesday off from online school because they didn’t use any snow days this year. My husband also has off Tuesday and Wednesday.
The problem is, there’s only so much to do. Yesterday, it was kind of cold so we stood home and although there was no Indy 500, we watched the Nascar Coca Cola 600 Memorial Day race. Today we’re just going to stay home and grill some burgers We might take a drive tomorrow or Wednesday and take a walk around a National Park Beach area. There’s no swimming allowed, the water's probably pretty cold yet anyway, but the areas are open if you social distance and Tuesday or Wednesday there should be less people than today.
Thankfully, most people seem to be wearing masks and keeping to the social distancing rules even on our boardwalks and beaches. Of course we have 155,092 cases as of yesterday and 11,144 deaths in our state. 3,916 and 397 deaths in my county and 102 cases and 8 deaths in my small town.
It amazes me how cavalier people are in other parts of the country but I guess they haven’t had this virus hit them the way it has here in the NY/NJ area. I worry that outbreaks elsewhere will be happening soon.
I hope you are all doing well out there. Please check in! It’s always great to hear from everyone.

I played taps for my neighborhood at 3:00. This was done with Bugles for Veterans. I participated last year also. This year the story was picked up by CBS national feed and the people participating went from around 800 to over 3,000 last I heard. I posted that I was going to play on the nextdoor app so my neighbors could step out their doors and hear. One of my neighbors apparently is a producer for the local NBC news station. She sent over a camera guy to film it and ask a few questions. They showed a short clip on the 10 news.

On Friday nite I started having gastrointestinal issues. I had problems all night. I figured it was something I ate. Saturday I was much better but still not quite right. Sunday was the same so I took my temperature. Surprisingly I was running a low grade fever. Monday was the same so I called about getting a Covid test since I heard some people with the virus had gastrointestinal issues. I didn't qualify to get a test. I wasn't having trouble breathing, I wasn't an essential worker, I hadn't been around someone who had tested positive. It just makes me so angry, you have no idea who around you has the virus or already had the virus. The country has no plan to safely get people back to work and safely open up recreation and other areas, but every day the president and everyone around him are getting tested and wasting all those tests. I don't understand why there are still test shortages when other countries are diligent about testing and tracking. I've been pretty careful even though I've been to quite a few stores for groceries, garden supplies, have picked up carry-out, etc and have been golfing. I always wear a mask (except when golfing). I'm so concerned that people are acting like it's all over. My MIL went out to eat over the weekend. My son went on a bus trip. These are 2 people I still associate with. I feel like 1000s or 10s of thousands of people are going to die needlessly, especially after seeing all the people on social media at lakes, beaches, waterparks, restaurants, block parties etc over the holiday weekend. Oh, and my fever broke last night and I feel really good today. I feel bad that I was such a downer so I will end with this. A friend posted a video on Facebook yesterday that a deer was in labor in her backyard. You could see her stomach working as she cried. A couple of hours later she posted that the doe had moved into the woods but they could still hear her crying. Later she posted a pic of the doe with her FIRST fawn. Apparently the 2nd one arrived shortly after.

We were glad to see Teresa on the news last night, although the story was much too short. They showed the first three notes of Taps (hardly enough to get a feeling for it) while explaining the reason for such tributes. Even so, what we heard sounded good.
ibmjas, I'm glad you're feeling better. The lack of testing and the reasons for not testing are truly disturbing! There are countless people walking around as carriers with no symptoms No one is safe. The main road from Phoenix to Flagstaff was jammed with traffic like any other summer weekend. The boaters were out in force at all the lakes, with some being turned away due to full capacity.
marschg, I hope you don't develop symptoms. With all the confirmed cases you've told us about, it may have been inevitable that you'd test positive. Hopefully you are now immune to the virus. Please take care of yourself.

Hi All, Wisconsin- 16462 cases 539 deaths Brown County-2285 cases 33 deaths Our cases and deaths continue to trend UP. It's nice to hear others are as frustrated as we are by the actions of others. It is very disheartening and downright scary. We were tested on May 19th and told we would have our results in 5-7 days. I called yesterday and was told that our results were not in yet. REALLY? The state claims they can process upwards of 70,000 tests a DAY. They are not testing anywhere near that many people daily so where are our results?? I was told(rather snottily), that someone would call us when the results came in. It really does not instill us with a lot of confidence going forward. Rikki and I have decided that we can only control what we do and just sit back and watch the "circus". We are masking, sanitizing, and limiting our trips out. Best to All of You and stay safe.

ibmjas - I’m so glad to hear you are feeling better. That must have been scary. Yes, depending where you are in the country, there seems to be a huge discrepancy in getting tested. Here, you need a prescription from a doctor. I am happy that my friend who is a nurse is now able to get tested regularly. She had been living in someone’s RV near the hospital for fear of bringing the virus home to her family, especially since our local hospitals have several cases Covid related pediatric inflammatory multisystem syndrome. Now, she’s able to get tested and can come home to her husband and three kids between shifts. As my daughter and her friend were video chatting, I could hear her mom in the background saying, “Why are there Oreo cookies ground into the living room carpet?!?” LOL. I can only imagine how much there was to deal with at home after leaving her husband and three kids on their own for several weeks! marschg - Wow! That’s scary. It’s good that you got tested and now you can watch for any serious symptoms. I worry about my husband, and the fact that I don't think his partner at work is taking the restrictions seriously enough. Please take care of yourself and keep us updated. geezer2008, I know there are different types of tests but that your results are taking that long seems crazy. My neighbor recently had a mild stroke (thankfully he's doing well) but he had to go back to the hospital for a procedure this week. They made him come beforehand for a Covid 19 test to make sure he was negative. The results were back in 24 hours! In better news, my husband, daughter and I took a really pretty drive along the Delaware River (it borders NJ/PA) on Tuesday. It was a beautiful day and we found a walking bridge over the river and path. There were other people out but most of them had their masks and we had ours, although we didn’t wear them for the entire walk, only if we came upon people. Yesterday we had to run around and do some errands. My husband and daughter waited in the car while I ran in to Walmart and Home Depot. Everyone in the stores were wearing masks and social distancing. At Home Depot, they had a security guard directing people to the appropriate lines and pointing out the marks on the floor. It was good to see everyone following the rules without complaint. Thankfully, our #s are starting to taper off and I really hope we don't have to deal with any kind of a second wave here. Fingers crossed!

I am probably one of the very lucky ones I did the blood antibody test according to my doctor I had it over a month ago and seriously I did not have one symptom I work in a small office 3 out of 5 tested positive no one had any symptoms on the other 2 one should get the results today the other one is scheduled next week for the test. My antibody number was considered high so I have built up an antibody to it but need to be tested in 6 months to see if the antibodies remain at the same levels.

Tuesday night my step grandson (11) had to have an appendectomy. Fortunately, his mom was able to be with him the whole time. He came home Wednesday and seems to be doing good. I grew up in Speedway, Indiana also known as the home of the The Greatest Spectacle in Racing or the Indy 500. I can't overstate the importance of the track and races to Speedway residents. Today the 2020 graduating class of Speedway High School, my Alma Mater, got in their cars and drove the few blocks from the high school to the track with a police escort. They drove out on the track, stopped and got out of their cars, crossed the yard of bricks, received their diploma and a commemorative milk bottle and got their picture taken with their family next to a vintage race car. I was so excited that the IMS did this for these seniors that have missed so much this year. This is something that they will always remember.

ibmjas, that is so cool! I'm a race fan and it was sad not to get to watch the Indy 500 over Memorial Day weekend. My sister had her appendix taken out when she was only 11 as well. I'm glad to hear your step-grandson is doing well and back home. I hope he recovers quickly.

Last night the lead story on the evening news should have been the successful launch of the new spacecraft that will hopefully take people to another planet. It should also see the return to the Moon after over 50 years. I thought by now we would have people living on other planets. It’s about time. Unfortunately that story was about half way thru the broadcast on most stations.

Arizona is now under a state mandated curfew that began at 8pm tonight and goes until 5am Monday. It's supposed to be in effect all week! This is due to vandalism and looting at a few stores at Scottsdale Fashion Square mall. There was damage to the Sandra Day O'Connor Courthouse in downtown Phoenix the other night, but no restrictions were put in place after that. Only time will tell whether or not the curfew lasts the whole week.
