Hi All, I hope everyone is doing well. We’re good here. The weather has been much nicer so we’re trying to get out more often but sometimes I have to drag my daughter away from the computer because it’s the only way she gets to interact with her friends. I’m working on an End of the Year project for my daughter’s teachers. I’m having every student send in personal messages for her teachers (she has 2) and photos if they have them and then using it all to make a keepsake photo book for each teacher. I hope they’ll like it, especially since they won’t be able to physically see this class again. Just because I find it fascinating how different parts of the country have been affected by this virus I’ll post our numbers. NJ has 148,039 cases with 10,435 fatalities. My county has 3,758 cases with 372 fatalities and my small town has 91 cases and 8 deaths. More small businesses are allowed to open now but masks are mandatory. A funny story. My husband works for FedEx (in an office, not on the road). FedEx gave each person still working in the office a package of masks. It’s funny because it’s obvious that no one bothered to try these on before they sent them out. The ear loops are made of fabric, not elastic and they are much too small for any adult to wear! I can only imagine how much money was wasted. I look forward to hearing how everyone else is doing. Stay safe.

I live in Indiana. We have 27,777 cases, 1,607 deaths. My county has 207 confirmed, 2 deaths although some could have died in the next county which shares a hospital with our county even though we have 2 other hospitals. That county has 24 deaths but half of those are from a nursing home. The state has tested fewer than 7000 since Apr 11.
My son also works at FedEx. He never mentioned anything about masks. I'll have to ask him about it. That's bizarre that they didn't use elastic or check their fit.

ibmjas, in my opinion, FedEx's response has been inconsistent at best. Here, there have been some deaths at the FedEx airport hub. Couriers at the stations have complained of not being told that other couriers are out because they've tested positive and then being allowed to use the same equipment as the sick couriers without it ever being disinfected. One station got nice, neoprene masks while others have not. At the start of April, my husband's communication office was given five disposable masks per person and a handful of disinfectant wipes from China that were expired and dry when they opened them. People have been told they can use the now empty offices of people who have gone home but told to disinfect them themselves if they want to. Most people have brought in their own supplies. About half of the office has been allowed to work from home. My husband can't because he uses so many different systems that our home internet can't handle it all. But when someone else in the office asked their boss (who frequently works from home) how they chose who got to go home, his response was, "They've been blessed." So now whenever my husband is asked why he's still in the office while others are working from home, he responds with, "I'm not blessed."

I question the numbers being posted. Most of the country has not tested many people. We really have no idea the true numbers. The state was hiding the numbers from senior facilities. All of the news services went together and suited the State ofAZ for the numbers. As of the latest numbers I could find AZ has 13,937 cases and 680 deaths. Maricopa county ( where Phoenix is located) has 7,240 cases and 319 deaths. We are all open again here. I’m just hanging around my house and pool as much as I can. A good friend flew back to Rhode Island yesterday thru Chicago Midway. The first flight had 80 people and their flight out of Phoenix was the only flight out of the D concourse. The flight from Chicago to RI only had about 50 people. She said people were trying to social distance at the Chicago airport. Most had their masks on but pulled down to eat or make phone calls. Most of the food services were closed except Starbucks.

As of this morning, Arizona now has 14,566 cases and 704 deaths. The Navajo Nation has the highest infection rate per capita in the U.S., surpassing New York. Cases across the state have been rising weekly and our governor seems to think it's fine to patronize all businesses while social distancing (incompatible policy, IMO). We are one of the lowest in testing, possibly the worst, which makes reopening even scarier. It looks like we'll be living this nightmare for many weeks to come.

I was just reading yesterday about the plight of the Navajo and how they are getting support from an unusual source - Ireland! www.nhonews.com/news/2020/may/12/ocean-apart-irish-donate-670000-navajo-and-hopi/

A few more facts from the Arizona Republic regarding the Navajo Nation: 30% of the homes don't have access to running water and electricity; 50% don't have access to broadband internet; several generations live in the same house (could be up to 12 people in some cases); the Navajo Nation is 27,400 sq mi and larger than 10 U.S. states.

Hi All, Wisconsin stats are 13413 cases- 481 deaths. My county has 2135 cases-29 deaths.
Rikki and I were tested yesterday and will get our results in 5-7 days. Our daughter and her family are getting tested today. We were in and out in 14 minutes. Very efficiently done. Just make an appointment(easy to do) and go.Our county(Brown) has offered free testing to anyone who wishes it, no symtoms required. The offer ends Friday evening.
Our state is very much open but people are being cautious IMO. We went for groceries during Senior hours this morning. The meat was lousy by normal standards but was available. We got everything we needed for another 2 weeks at home. There were even sanitizing wipes and sprays available which we needed. All the staff and most of the customers were masked which made us happy. It will be interesting to see if there is a big spike in cases in a couple of weeks due to the opening. An interesting fact is that we have the lowest numbers of Midwestern States because our Governor acted quickly to shut things down. Now that he is muzzled and handcuffed, it will be interesting to see what happens. All I know is, we will continue to stay home and be careful

The one thing that I don't really like about how British Columbia tracks its cases is the fact that besides any potential outbreaks at long term care centers or acute care units - we as a population are sort of kept in the dark of exactly where cases are being reported. British Columbia has five different health authorities in the province (all of which are pretty large) and we are mainly just keyed into the numbers for each health region.
That being said - the reason behind that is because our Public Health Officer wants us to be of the mindset that no community in BC is spared from covid-19. And I mean ... so far it's working. We've managed to successfully flatten our curve so that our health system is not overrun. We've just begun phase two of our reopening plan on May 19th so it's going to be a wait and see game to find out if we're moving too fast or not.

This has been a good week because the weather has been beautiful, I've been buying plants right and left, potting plants, almost ready to start my water garden up, the birds have been plentiful, it's been warm enough to enjoy my new screened porch...just REALLY NICE!!!!! As far as COVID, the governor of Massachusetts has really prioritized testing, I think we are one of the most tested states, not sure. At any rate, Mass. is SLOWLY starting to lift restrictions, but I don't intend to be out and about in a crowd nor in a restaurant. Our town, and towns in the vicinity are pretty low in numbers as we're rural but I'm sticking close to home, socializing with appropriate distance and only with friends who are cautious and careful. It is extremely frustrating to see how COVID data is presented in the US, the number of tests, the number of positive tests, the number of deaths, means little unless you can look at it in the context of population and per capita data. That is really hard to find and I am dismayed that things are so disjointed, I personally don't trust federal govt data, different states are doing different things, reporting different data, or NOT reporting data. Some of the tests that were rapidly pushed out have now been found to be showing false positives and false negatives at an unacceptable rate. That's my soapbox for now. I'm just praying that eventually things WILL get sorted out, effective treatment protocols will be vetted and followed for the near term, and in the FUTURE a vaccine that is EFFECTIVE will be available. On a lighter note -- I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!!!!

Arizona now has 15,608 cases and 775 deaths. We've been mostly opened up for a week and the numbers continue to rise. On a good note, St. Mary's Food Bank donated 125,000 pounds of food to the Navajo Nation today. The reservation's needs have become a national news story and people are responding in kind. Traffic around Phoenix seems to be back to the usual amount. School is officially over so the need to leave home is greater, plus it's a holiday weekend. We've noticed more customers at the grocery store wearing masks. Some of the shelves are filling up again, but paper products are still in short supply, if any. I hope everyone here can enjoy being outdoors at home (weather permitting) and maybe even grill some burgers or chicken.

I don't like the concept of being kept in the dark either, but seeing some of the mindsets out there, I grudgingly agree it probably does help keep a bit of control on things...not necessary in my case, of course, because I'm a little angel. But I really have been cautious and following protocols!
