Arizona now has 13,631 known cases and 679 known deaths. Of those deaths, almost 50% are in long-term care facilities. The state is refusing to turn over the names of those places that have deaths. The reason? It would hurt the businesses and could reveal patient info. Our local newspaper and TV stations have filed a public records request for the data. The state has refused to allow its release so the matter is now in court.
Our stay at home order is now over. With some of the lowest number of cases and deaths, we'll soon find out how those numbers change in the coming weeks. My husband and I still try to practice social distancing and wear face coverings. We go out as little as possible.

Wow DrvrTrnr, that they are actively hiding that information from the public is really disturbing. Our county website in NJ actually lists all of the nursing home and long-term care facilities with the number of cases and fatalities in each, and it's updated daily. Those facilities have about 1/3 of the total cases but about 2/3s of the total deaths, which is frightening if you have a loved one in one of them. I hope the number of cases stays low even with the lack of restrictions. My daughter and I just walked to the post office to send off my brother-in-law's birthday present. The post office has plexi-glass and plastic sheeting at the counter so there's no contact between the worker and the public and everyone must wear masks inside. There are tape marks on the floor to keep everyone at least six feet from one another. With the nice weather, we're seeing a lot more people outdoors but everyone I've seen in my town is either wearing a mask or has one with them if they come in contact with people. The number of cases is still rising but not as quickly as it was a few weeks ago so I'm hoping that's a good sign. Still, we'll probably reach 150,000 cases by next week. I think it's going to be a long and interesting summer.

Now they've cancelled 4th of July fireworks on the Ohio!! Seriously? Yeah, any event where crowds tend to pack together will likely be cancelled because that's when the virus spreads most quickly.

Rain...at last, and more is forecast almost all week! Another day of yard work just might have been too much regardless of how nice things look [of course, now needs to be maintained]. Thankfully, Dawn knows about this gardening; and, I am a trained hole digger and weed puller as long exactly where to dig or which one to pull/dig out are specified. Still, it was 'fun' and my tan is coming along nicely according to our grand-daughter. Best news came with the realization that it is only 90 days until beginning of the 2020 edition of the annual trip for 'Great Canada Fishing Adventure'. Report is that the USA/Canada border crossing at International Falls opening is projected for 30 June. Sure better happen because Holmes boys are coming; and, no one needs a 'disruptive incident' to occur!

As of May 19 the border is still closed to everything but essential travel til now June 21 I believe. There is speculation that it could go on in increments of 30 days until both countries feel it's safe to open. I know that the premier of my province and the premier of Ontario wish to have the borders remain closed until the USA can get a grip on coronavirus. (the states of Michigan & New York for Ontario and Washington State for BC) I think Quebec is also against opening the border too. Even if the border does open over the summer - Canada for the time being has initiated the "Quarantine Act" which basically means that you will need to have a quarantine plan drawn up for when you cross the border and will immediately have to go into a 14 day quarantine lockdown. So no stopping for supplies like groceries or anything like that. Just a friendly heads up

YIKES! My 'information - perhaps hopeful wishing' came from a friend in Iowa who is planning a trip for about the same time. Just checked Google [should have tried this - but, foolishly didn't] and found this depressing 19MAY2020 result - nevertheless, wishful thinking may help bring resolution. If this is not resolved, it will be a crushing morale buster! www.ezbordercrossing.com/coronavirus-travel-issues/

How about a fishing trip to Oregon? Central Oregon has some great Lake fishing. I use to live in Bend. We spent the summer volunteering a few years ago living in the Newberry caldera where Paulina and East lake have wonderful Rainbow and Brown trout. These lakes are at 6,000ft so they are nice and cold so the trout are wonderful.

So the last two days of this week have been a roller-coaster of emotions for those in my city. On Saturday May 16th we had the Royal Canadian Air Force Snowbirds fly over our city as part of their "Operation Inspiration." It was an idea that the group came up with to lift the spirits of Canadians. For just over two weeks the aeronautic group flew over various Canadian cities starting on the east coast and heading west. It was also a salute to various front line workers. So on Saturday afternoon I managed to watch them fly over though I was stuck at work and thought it was nice to see the group after a long period of not seeing them. And it was very inspiring. On Sunday though the high experienced on Saturday went downhill. Two planes were in the process of taking off before noon when one seemed to experience some sort of malfunction. The occupants of the jet had to eject and sadly one did not survive (both didn't have the safe altitude required for the parachutes to deploy) .. the pilot survived but is now in our city's hospital. The plane crashed into a residential neighborhood just about a kilometer away from the airport. The house that was struck had an elderly couple living there and they managed to get out safely ... but part of their home was destroyed by fire. The whole weekend has been surreal and it's just a shame that something tragic had to occur near the end of an amazing two weeks. Just unreal. But our city is definitely coming out in full force to support the Snowbird team. A large section of fence along the airport runway has become a makeshift memorial were residents are putting up messages of support and condolences. Canadian flags are being put up on the fence as well and it's just really touching to see something like that happening. The pic below was from May 19 and you can see just how much of this fence has been used. ** The other weird thing to make a note of was the house that was beside the one that caught fire ... was my old childhood home.

I was so sorry to see that reported in the news. And what an eery thing that must have been for you to see your old home next to the site of the crash. Always love seeing the Canadian flag...my husband was from Ontario and I have had the pleasure of exploring Ontario and the eastern provinces, especially Nova Scotia where my great-grandfather lived , and British Columbia. Have not visited Newfoundland yet, but I really would like to some day!
