Hi All, The good news is that our local ice cream shop and our favorite Chinese restaurant both reopened for take-out! We've already been to both. My daughter got to get ice cream twice in two days! The first time I took her and the second time her grandfather did. *FYI to anyone curious about that - We live in a two-family home and my Dad lives upstairs. I'm thankful we're all healthy so that he and my daughter can continue to spend time together because they are buddies. Also, the parks and walking trails are back open. The ones near our home are less traveled but we bring our masks along just in case we run into anyone. The downside...ticks! It never got cold enough here this winter to kill much of anything so the ticks are everywhere! The schools are now officially closed for the rest of the term. A lot of states already made that announcement but school goes until the end of June in NJ so we were holding out hope that things would change but they haven't. I'm grateful the online learning is going so well but sad that my daughter won't get to be in class with her teachers and friends again. Also, this was her last year in the elementary school so they'll miss out on the special class trip and other events that were planned for their class. I was just reading about violence in other areas of the country over not wanting to wear masks in public and it just boggles my mind. Everyone wears them here without much issue. I'll be happy when we no longer have to wear them but I don't see that happening any time soon considering NJ has close to 130,000 cases now and almost 8,000 fatalities. I hope you are all doing well. Please check in when you can. I enjoy hearing from all of you.

We are fine and being careful. It's sad to say but people here are not. There is an article in today's paper about the lack of spacing and mask wearing in our community. People are gathering also. We, already have the 2nd highest infection rate in the nation and 4 times the state average. We are just so disappointed in our area. People think it's a conspiracy and not really happening from what we hear. I ran to the store on Saturday for a couple of things and over HALF the people were not wearing masks or distancing. We have lost so much respect for this community.
We will be going grocery shopping during senior hours this week. At least most of our seniors are being careful.
Today, we are going to see our kids safely. We got a package that was supposed to be for them in error. It will be GREAT to see them!!
We are starting to get depressed as we see no end of this in sight. You can see it in our authorities too. They are not upbeat and are getting to the point of not knowing what to say or do in this area.

Restaurants are opening, malls are opening. Everyone seems to think the virus risk is over. Saw that a security guard was shot to death for telling a lady she had to wear a mask to enter the store. Saw on TV an old guy wiped his nose on a lady's shirt when she asked him where his mask was. A friend of mine (almost 80) said a young man was crowding her in line at the grocery and she asked him if he had heard of social distancing. He told her he wasn't afraid. So far I don't personally know anyone who has gotten the disease or died from it. I'd really like to keep it that way. I understand that people need to get back to work so they can pay their rent and bills, but it's scary. Particularly when so many think it's all overblown.
My husband and I have continued to see his mother. We'll go over there for Mother's Day and make a meal but the rest of the family isn't invited. I don't know when things can ever go back to normal. I have high hopes for the vaccines they think look promising and the drug remdesivir sounds promising as a treatment.

POTUS was in Phoenix yesterday to tour a re-opened Honeywell plant making PPE masks. Of course he wasn't wearing one himself. Adding insult to injury, our governor has told ASU/UA scientists that their services were no longer Needed. They were developing virus models and no longer have access to state data!! Restaurants will be allowed to re-open Monday. How are we supposed to eat wearing masks??? Granted, AZ hasn't been hit as hard as some states, but we know from past history that the virus will rear its ugly head in a devastating way. Like ibmjas, my husband and I don't know anyone who has gotten sick or died from this. As reasonable people, we'll never understand how so many can take this so lightly. They do so at their own peril.

I went on a home visit for St Vince on Monday. We had 3 families that we delivered food to.That felt good to get out and help people. Tuesday I took my RV in for the yearly oil/filter change and check out. I am hopefully going to get out a couple of times this summer in the RV. Yes POTUS was here... Today I made more face masks. I have made my own pattern from a couple I found. My new version uses 1/2 a pipe cleaner on the top edge so you can pinch it over the nose. If you wear glasses you really need this. I also stopped putting in the extra batting in the middle as it's too hot for AZ. We are in the 100's early this year. I am hoping the pool will be warm enough for my 6am swims soon. Thank you admin for helping me figure out how to post pictures These are my constant companions who have saved my sanity...Allegro on the left and her brother Presto on the right. They are my musical kitties

A week ago, we went through a McDonalds drive through and got burgers and fries while out on a ride. It was the 1st time in 2 months that we have had anything fried or prepared by someone else. I got sick. I have had stomach distress for a week. Today is the first day that I feel almost normal. Rikki had it to a lessor extent. What the hell??? It made us very leery about even getting takeout. On a brighter note, we managed to shop and restock the house for 2 more weeks. Still no sanitizing products available in stores and you can only get 2 packages of each meat that is available. The quality of the meat is WAY down from normal due to the virus outbreak in our meat plants. Authorities asked us not to stock up or hoard meat so, of course, people did just that. I drove past a local meat store and the line of cars was ridiculous. Our days are lovely but unseasonably cool. It's been 10+ degrees below normal. 43 for a high today. We decorated outside and got out our patio furniture but haven't been able to enjoy much yet. HAPPY MOTHERS DAY to all the Mom's here at APFJ.

geezer, what a difference a day makes! After lots of public blow back and national media attention, our governor caved and said the scientists can continue doing their virus modelling (they were going to anyway regardless of the gov's earlier statement). My husband and I continue wearing our bandanas when shopping and are amazed at how many don't seem to care. Costco had toilet paper today but no other paper products or disinfectants. The food court was open for carryout but no eating it there. The paper aisles at the grocery stores are still empty. Meat supply has been good but that could change. Thank goodness for TV, the internet, and Netflix, LOL.

Let's see....last Sunday, sunny and 80 degrees.....aaaaah. Today (Sat.), 43 degrees, wind gusts up to 30 mph, and temps dropping overnight. Those pansies I put out in my planters a week ago -- luckily I had put them in pots and they are now sitting on my porch table again!!!!! At least we didn't get snow! Luckily still healthy. Other than groceries, a takeout order, and our local feed store, have not strayed from home. I'm not really closely paying attention to when things might gradually open up here in Mass., as I honestly don't find the prospect going out to eat and having to social distance too alluring, nor do I want to be in a crowded situation. The thing I do really miss are my trips to the Parker River wildlife refuge to get my ocean dose which I usually do in the spring and fall months (very hard to get parking in the summer months). The refuge is closed and if it was open it would be too crowded anyway, with everyone being home now. Glad to hear all are doing well here. And, larryholmes, I think I'll spend some time today doing some diddly-squats!!!!!!

LOL, our weathermen have told us not to be surprised if we wake up tomorrow to a couple inches of sloppy, wet snow. R E A L L Y, on May 10??? That's a bit much, even by Wisconsin standards.

Fjordmom, we just bought some hanging flower baskets for our front porch. It was 70 degrees earlier in the week. Today it's 43 degrees and so windy that I was afraid they'd blow away so I moved them back into the hallway. It looks like we should get back to the 60s by the end of the week so I guess the flowers will have to wait until then!
