I hope everyone is well. Coronavirus seems to be the word for the day. Our schools are performing extra cleaning procedures every day and have extra hand sanitizer and soap throughout the school. The parents of the 4th Grade Safety Patrol took home their special vests and bus signs to wash and disinfect.
Other than that, everything is fairly normal. The worst part of this week is that we have to find a storage unit but there are so MANY places in our area that it's mind boggling trying to pick one. And so many options! Ground floor would be easier but second floor means we won't have to worry about flooding. Climate control is probably a good idea but costs extra. How big do we really need, how much does it cost, and how often do they raise the rent?
Then once we finally pick one we have to move everything. Ugh.
I hope you're having more fun!

Well, we had someone in the next town over (which is within our school system) test positive for COVID-19.
We already had a scheduled day off of school tomorrow but today they had the kids take home all of their books with them. The reason was twofold. First, they plan to thoroughly disinfect all of the schools over the weekend and having the desks cleaned out will make that easier. Second, there's the possibility that the kids won't come back next week, depending on how many more cases we have in the area.
When I was at the school yesterday I asked my daughter if the kids were using the hand sanitizers that were set up around the school. She said the boys were daring one another to use it as hair gel!

I can not believe that the people in charge have not cancelled this event yet. Large groups People traveling from all over the US and Canada to attend Lots and lots of older people They are waiting for the State of AZ to give the announcement about no gatherings over 200??

We just got word that schools are closed for the next two weeks and there will be online classes. We'll get more information about the online classes via email tomorrow. I'm just hoping it only lasts the two weeks.
What's that Chinese curse? "May you live in interesting times."

I'm glad everyone is taking this seriously. At this point it is critical to slow the spread of the disease so the hospitals don't get overwhelmed. Hospitals are overwhelmed in northern Italy and they are forced to decide who will live and who will die because there aren't enough ventilators. Their death rate is the highest of any country. It's scary.

We know people who are being very cavalier about the virus but it definitely scares the bejesus out of us. We are both in our 70's and prime candidates for the virus. My wife came home from our getaway last week feeling sick. She is feeling much better as I write this but we have decided to stay home for the immediate future. We will skip church and all social functions until they get a handle on things. We have stocked up fairly well and will just go out for grocery store runs as needed. All the local experts are telling us oldies to stay home as much as possible and that is what we are doing. Good thing we have our hobbies to keep us entertained We are concerned for our loved ones as I am sure all of you are for yours. Thoughts and prayers go out for all of you and your families!!

I decided early last week that I would not go to a couple social engagements, since I am in the older age bracket, and would rather err on the side of caution at this point. I'm very thankful to live in "country" surroundings and not have to go to work or take public transportation.
I'm trying to limit my grocery store trips (admittedly not very good at that), but this morning I needed to go to my credit union and deposit a check. While there I was going to make a quick run into the grocery store to get a few items. Credit union was a breeze; the grocery store aisles were MOBBED, with people in long lines to check out. The store did handle the overflow really well with "traffic cops" in the store, but I was wondering what news announcement I had missed that would warrant that crowd.
When I got to my home town the school parking lot was empty, so that was a clue.
I will echo Pete's lovely thoughts:
"We are concerned for our loved ones as I am sure all of you are for yours. Thoughts and prayers go out for all of you and your families!!"

They finally cancelled the RV Rally today. I think that was a very good move.I know they will suffer from the loss of refunds and costs to the fairgrounds but it would have been putting many people at risk.

Our oldest daughter is getting married April 11th in Las Vegas. We need to make a hotel reservation and want to stay at the MGM Grand along with the rest of the family. Being older adults in our late 60s, we're wondering what the virus situation will be like at that time. MGM Resorts has already closed all their properties' buffets, with more hotels possibly following suit. I don't see Las Vegas shutting down completely, but the uncertain future is concerning. She may have to get married locally and have a celebration at another time. Everyone's health and safety are more important.

We just received all of the online class information from the school. Our school district is doing this starting Monday for K-12. It's really quite extensive. They've handed out about 600 laptops to children who didn't already have access to a computer or device at home, and have alternate breakfast and lunch meals that can be picked up or distributed for students who need it.
I have to give them credit. Our school started planning this over a week ago and really got ahead of things so that it feels as though we're ready for Monday. I'm sure there will be challenges but so far I'm feeling somewhat confident we can pull this off.
