“Hollander’s Woods” should have been the series final.
I recently dropped my Direct TV and cut the cord. I now use You Tube TV to watch and record shows. I saw that it automatically recorded Castle over the weekend. Our local ABC station usually airs 2 episodes over the weekend late at night. Last weekend was the Season 7 final “Hollander’s Woods”. I know most fans consider this the end of our beloved show. I know I do. After watching the episode this afternoon I realized again how they did such an amazing job of finishing up storylines and giving us things to hope for in the future. The award ceremony was a nice way for the many background cast and crew to be recognized. They all got dressed up and even did a nice cast picture on the stairway into the place they used for the dinner. Again nice closure for everyone. I think Andrew had hopes of a few made for tv movies every few years to check in our Castle family. I guess that was a dream as they really never do that anymore. I know Milmar left the show when they saw what ABC expected them to do with the story the last season. I respect them for leaving. If you want a happy ending you might want to try and view this episode again. What are your thoughts?

I watched that episode about a month ago. We all know that one should've been the finale. Instead we got a bunch of garbage that stunk to high heaven! For reasons unknown to us, TPTB didn't understand or realize how awful that last season was. Nobody wanted to see Castle without Beckett. Poor judgment and plenty of blame to go around.

That was a good episode. I loved Castle but still upset at how far it fell every year after Montgomery died.

I know I've said it before but the “Hollander’s Woods” episode bugs me because it crammed what should have been a season long story arc into one episode. We spent six seasons on the story of Kate Beckett's mother's murder. We should have had at least one season exploring what drove Rick Castle to write murder mysteries.
Castle was a wonderful show but it wasted a lot of time on nonsense when it could have been telling great stories about these fantastic characters and when I think about it too much it annoys me.

I would have loved to see this story ark last for a season or two. That would have been wonderful. I think they realized this was all they were going to get as all signs looked like the show was not going to be renewed. At least we did finally get Rick’s back story. I remember Castle telling Kate a story about finding a body of a boy when he was a kid. After he finished and Kate said how sorry she was he broke into a smile as he said “ I’m a writer...it’s what I do”. I think we all felt there was a little truth to that story.
