Over the weekend we took a trip to Sleepy Hollow, NY. My daughter has joined a 4-H photography club and they were assigned to take Halloween or Fall themed photos before their next meeting so we decided to factor that into our day trip.
Sleepy Hollow has a fantastic historic cemetery so we spent a few hours taking photos there. Lots of old gravestones, statues and mausoleums, plus it's quite scenic this time of year. It's on a hillside with lots of trees and in certain places there's a nice view of the Hudson River.
How's your week starting off.

I went to the Vietnam Wall and 'spoke' to a couple friends. My high school classmate and fellow backstroker on our swimming team is still 'Missing in Action' although now declared dead. My mom visited Jeff's mom weekly for years. They became friends when attending our high school swimming meets and cheering for both of us. My mom was so thankful and happy to get my brother and me back after our tours over there. She always said that she thought the worry for our dad during WWII should have been enough for a life time for anyone. She just didn't need to repeat the worry after that; however, she did and made it a point to visit local families that lost someone in Vietnam. Dawn and I have now worried about both our sons during their deployments to the Middle East. The world is not always a very safe place; nevertheless, we are a fortunate country but some times seem to forget that.

We need to ALWAYS remember those who died for the rest of us. They are the true heroes. I was in the USN from 1964 to 1970.

LOL, I find it hard to feel sorry for you about the cold. If any of you saw parts of the Packer game yesterday, we are in winter mode already. Anything resembling Summer or Fall is GONE. My pond is mostly frozen over already. The mallards are packed into one corner where there is some open water left. It's fun to watch them land and go sliding across the ice!!

He said the closest he got was 50ftoff the shore. I use to do a Veterans Day program at my 3 schools. My 2nd year band students (6th graders) would learn all the military songs during the 1st quarter of school. I use to have to talk hard to get some principals on board with having a school wide celebration. After 911 they were coming to me asking when it would be held. I had one young teacher come up after the program one year asking why I played the same songs every year😳. I told her it was my hope that after hearing the different branches of the military’s songs for 6 years they (and her🤪) might recognize the songs.

Winter has arrived in Motown. Geezer, I'm guessing today we got your leftovers. 9 inches and still coming down. And then into the deep freeze for the rest of the week.
Tycho, I hope the weather didn't mess up your travel plans!

Thank you to all you veterans!!! Larry, I hope your sons come home safe and sound. I'll tell you how my week is going after the cold snap arrives ... Thanks. They both did...Chris is a JAG officer and Nick is a doctor in a forward evac hospital. Dawn was a nurse in British Army who was in their evac hospital in Singapore and had experience with med evac flight patients. So, she and I were very anxious through both their deployments regardless of how remote their duty stations were from actual conflict engagements. My RVN two tours were in the Infantry which did not help my active imagination at all. Nevertheless, all of us returned safely...and are hoping our sons/brothers do not have any more 'opportunities' even though they obviously understand the challenges and our family worry.

Tycho, I hope the weather didn't mess up your travel plans! Sorry motown I would not wish this early winter on anyone. It's very cold here today. We almost set a record in Green Bay. Tomorrow, we are expecting 3 more inches of snow. Our pond is completely frozen and the mallards gone today. The pond freeze is a month early this year. Can't really complain though as this is a wonderful place to live most of the year

My wife is off to Knitting group today and I'm going to see MIDWAY at the movies. Tomorrow is a snow day and Thursday we go to Book Club, out to lunch with our daughter, and shopping at the large mall near her job. Friday night, we are going to a dinner theater production downtown.

It was snowing when I landed where I was headed but by the time I drove the 2 hours it had melted. It is however, pretty cold...

Our daughter had to put out some "fires" at work yesterday so we moved our lunch date til next Thursday. We went to the movies in the afternoon and saw Harriet . Excellent movie. It was the story of Harriet Tubman, an amazing lady. I also very much enjoyed Midway on Tuesday.

geezer2008, I saw Harriet last week. It was very good. What struck me was how little we learned about slaves in history class in high school (the '80s) and college ('90s). Everything we learned was about the battles involved or the politics of the time. Even when they did talk about slavery, it was framed in how it was financially driven for the South, not about how morally reprehensible it was to treat people like farm animals, selling their children and beating or killing them at will. Harriet the movie was not only entertaining but enlightening.

I'm enjoying living vicariously through everyones' busy lives!!!! I'm happy to say that although we have been experiencing intermittent cold snaps, thus far there has been no snow which I'm thankful for, and the weather tomorrow is supposed to be freezing rain changing over to rain...and I sincerely hope they've got the forecast right. I would rather have snow than an ice situation. And, of course, I'm STILLLLLLLLLLLLLLL putting off that final put-away session for winter.
