Wow, Afton just tweeted this about her reason for leaving. That poor woman and what she put up with for last season. Alexi Hawley needs to answer for this. I am surprised we are even seeing a season two. My view of the show will never be the same now.

Just wondering here. The other African Americans on the show have made no comments about racial slurs but maybe the cowards just singled out Afton because she was a woman?? Despicable no matter what the reason. JMO

This was a shocker. I'm glad she specifically called out the offenders and I hope they're held accountable. She was so great in her role and I feel horrible that she had to endure a whole season of pain. I admire her courage in walking away!

IMO, after reading her reasons, this makes me think Hawley was the cause of all the trouble on the Castle set at the end of their run (the terrible storylines didn't help, either). His inability to lead the show with integrity is inexcusable! I'm glad Afton spoke out about this and hope she finds a new role to play.

That was the actor I suspected. I remember his character hitting on her and she turned him down cold. They could have easily not written any more scenes with him. Too bad Alexi couldn't justt have just spoken up in the writers room and fixed this.

Too bad Alexi couldn't just have just spoken up in the writers room and fixed this. That's what I was thinking. This was a disposable character. He was in a handful of episodes but he could have been written out and I don't think any fans would have noticed or cared. So why keep him coming back if you knew there were problems with one of your regular actors? And no offense to the hair and makeup departments, but these are behind the scenes jobs that are easy to replace. If there was a problem then why not investigate it from the beginning and make the appropriate changes? If all of what Afton is saying is true, then this doesn't speak well of Alexi Hawley as a showrunner because these seem like issues that, if they had been handled properly, the drama could have been minimal and the fans would have never had a clue.

Hi everyone! Tycho - thanks for separating out the reasons given by Afton from the original post by PTVJ that just said that she was leaving. And it seems that you are not alone when you say that you will not be able to watch The Rookie (if indeed you continue) in the same way again. Wow! Any way you look at this, my feeling is that it was a very brave move on her part. To walk away from a steady paycheck and to actually name names, who knows how TPTB will look at what she did. PTVJ - thanks for posting what she actually wrote. When I read the one posted on TVLine I was somewhat sad that instead of discussing Afton and The Rookie, it seemed as if the Castle fans were back and more than ever wondering if those rumors were true. Genuine question as to whether you think this might impact on Nathan given that he has now been involved in 2 shows which has had a negative situation reported beyond the set. B

B Well, there's no way of knowing how much Nathan actually knew and when. Unfortunately, this will add more fuel to the fire for people who already didn't like him, and give those who gave him the benefit of the doubt after Castle reason to question. The only person we know Afton spoke with is Alexi Hawley, and if what she claims is true, he completely mishandled the situation. Personally, I'd like to see ABC replace him as showrunner. Nathan seems very close to Alexi and Nathan is an executive producer, but most stars of his caliber are. That doesn't necessarily mean he was made aware of any of this before the end of June when eOne began their investigation. I don't expect Nathan will say much because I'm sure the party-line is to stay quiet and not comment on an ongoing investigation, but after all of the rumors surrounding the end of Castle, this certainly doesn't help his reputation.
