I was hoping this wasn't the case when we didn't see her at the SDCC with everyone else. She has been off social media since April. I enjoyed her character and she will be missed.

I agree. We really enjoyed her character and we will miss her. Williamson was VERY good in the role.

That's sure a shocker. I also enjoyed her character a lot.

Hi everyone! I'm writing as someone who hasn't watched this series but I'm curious as to how many women characters there are in this show. I read the information on TVLine and the first half of the comments (which I always love reading on that site) mirrored the shock on this board. Not only did the fans like her character because it was such a positive one but also the actress. Most were hoping that the actress was going onto a better role. And then the second half seemed made up of fans who have still not forgiven the ending of Castle. Just loved it because it got into the rumored reason why the leading lady was not given the option to continue her character. And rumor has it that the new character for The Rookie will be male. B

This show had many women . The captain was a woman and 2 of the 3 TO's were women. As season 2 begins the Captain was killed off and we don't know yet who will replace her but probably a man as there are not many women Captains. They will be putting a man into the role as Nolan's TO for season 2. I did see a tweet from Alexi Hawley a couple of months back asking for suggestions of good women directors. It looked like he was making an effort to hire more women as directors? I see on imDb that Afton has 2 new things listed. I hope they are good for her.

The show has one of the most balanced and diverse casts on network TV. I know some people are reading a lot into Afton's departure but we really have no details on whether it was her decision or theirs.
From what I've read, the show has brought on one female (Ali Larter) and one male (Harold Perrineau) recurring character for season 2. Perineau's character will be a detective who takes Nolan under his wing, while Larter's character is an ER doctor.

Bummer! I too really liked Officer Bishop. I wondered what direction they were going to go with the story of her omitting information on her application. Guess this kind of answers that.
As tycho mentions, I hope the actress is moving on to bigger things. She was really good in this role.
