It could work OR it could be a disaster. I think she's ready. She's already "in charge" when Gates has been absent. I think it fits with the tone of the show. The dynamics will change some, but she and Castle could still work together. We shall see!

I have mixed feelings about it but all shows have to evolve if they are to continue. I don't doubt that the character is capable. I just wonder how it will change the dynamic of the show. That said, I much prefer Beckett as Captain compared to Beckett going into politics so I'm going into season 8 with an open mind.

I'd like to see her a Captain of a unit within Major Crimes, so she'd still be in the field to some extent. What they do really fits that; they seem to land cases all over Manhattan, often the odd or "hot potato" types, not just routine calls in their precinct.

They said they wantEd to shake things up and face a new nemesis in season 8 so I could see the boys and Beckett heading up some kind of special unit for the "weird" cases. Beckett has always loved the more challenging cases so this would be a natural progression. The boys and Castle would fit right into this.

I know some of the writers were around during season 1. I'd like to see Beckett somehow move forward in her career yet get back to how the show began which was Beckett solving the unique, quirky murders. I think Esposito once referred to them as "Beckett flavored." I'd love to see them get back to that.
