As we continue with season one I see a pattern emerging. Each episode begins with some crazy arrest of crime. Then each of the Rookies gets a segment. (This helps Nathan from having to be on set everyday for every scene. It splits up the filming days with all of the cast members. We see the squad room at the beginning for the daily assignments. We see a lunch scene at the yellow tables. Also many times we see the same tables at the end as this truck has not only lunch but some after hours drinks too. I think when Nathan was a guest on Modern Family he noticed how each family got a segment so the screen/filming schedules were shared and not left to one person to be there for so many days. I think he talked to Alexi about this before they even got going and he told him that that would work?
We saw a pattern with the earlier seasons of Castle. There was always a scene at home with Martha and Alexis. The rest of the cast got a day off for this. The scenes at the station and at the murder board usually had Castle and the team. Most of the murder scenes also included Castle. If you think about it Castle was in 90% of the scenes. No wonder Nathan felt burnt out by the end of every season. They never really gave us too many episodes featuring other casts members. We always thought it would be good to learn more about each of the boys and Lanie but they never really gave us much. We would get maybe one or 1 episodes each year featuring one of the boys but we never got to learn about Lanie.
What do you think?
Do you like the way they share screen time with the whole cast?
Do you think Castle could have done this better?
