The holidays are fun but inevitably things don't go quite according to plan. I thought I'd share some of those stories here and I encourage others to do the same...
So I spent a large part of Sunday and today baking cookies and making appetizers for tonight. Yesterday, I was making my chocolate chip cookie recipe which calls for melted browned butter. I browned the butter and poured it in a mixing bowl that I've had for probably 15 years. It's red and my favorite. I picked up the bowl and quickly ended up with hot butter streaming out of the bottom. The heat from the butter broke a hole in the bowl!
The funny thing is, I didn't realize what was happening right away. I was standing there in my kitchen wondering what that strange noise was before realizing I was getting melted butter all over the counter, the floor, and my slippers before I finally got the bowl into the sink.
Needless to say it took an extra hour to clean it all up, and it could still use another mopping but that will have to wait until the day after Christmas!

I’m sorry for the mess, but it makes a great Christmas story. Your family won’t remember the perfect cookies and appetizers as clearly as we would like, but they will remember the year the brown butter melted the mixing bowl all over everything. You probably didn’t laugh at the time but soon it will be funny. Merry Christmas!

My mixing bowls are all glass or metal in my kitchen in the house. I better be careful in the RV as I stay away from glass and metal because it’s too heavy.

More holiday travails... My Mom and step-father flew in on Saturday. On the way to the airport they got stuck behind a serious car accident on the highway. They had to run to make their plane and they did...but their luggage didn't. Three bags were delivered the next day, they had the presents (Yay!) and my step-father's clothes, but the bag with my Mom's clothes was still MIA. The airline literally said they couldn't locate it. Thankfully, just as my Mom was mustering up the courage to battle the crowds at Target on Christmas Eve to see what clothes were left, her bag showed up. So you see, you can believe in Christmas miracles!

So you see, you can believe in Christmas miracles! This is why I always have a couple of days of clothes in my carry on bag...just in case. I'm going to do some serious thinking about what to take in my carry on for my big trip. If I don't get my checked bag it would be really bad... Glad they found their bags in the crazy busy days
