I enjoyed the 2nd episode. Nolan is already winning over the minds of his coworkers. The constant damage to their cars was a funny twist. Nolan is never afraid to jump in and protect people. I liked that the captain gave him some good advice to cope with the things he will experience. I think Nolan is more dedicated to his relationship than the other rookie. She is looking for a way out. I have a feeling that the “friend from college” who owns his house/condo doesn’t exist. I wonder if Nolan somehow has money and doesn’t want anyone to know? His story about his friend just sounds shady.

His story about his friend just sounds shady. The constant damage to the cars made me wonder if that's why Beckett never let Castle drive! I don't know that Lucy is less dedicated to her relationship with John, but she's definitely more apprehensive after getting that warning from Bishop. I still think they make a cute couple. I also think they kind of need one another as a sounding board right now and I talk about that more in my review. Nolan spoke about being in serious debt with his construction business when he was trying to talk that runaway bride down, so it would surprise me if he turned out to have the kind of money it would take to own that home. But I wouldn't be surprised if his old friend turned up at the most inappropriate time...or turned out to be involved in something shady that could impact Nolan. I also really loved Chen's interaction with her temporary T.O. Wrigley and with Officer Bradford. Bradford was calling her "Officer Chen" by the end instead of Boot, so I take that as a sign that she earned his respect. I'm looking forward to seeing more.

He did say this was a time when he was in trouble financially. It could have been 20 years ago? And..he never said that his lotto ticket was not a winning ticket? With all of the lotto fever going on this week I thought it was an interesting plot twist.

Okay, tycho657, I was curious enough that I went back and figured out exactly what John Nolan said in that lottery scene...

I live in the LA area, and in order to have that kind of house in the hills....you would need to have LOTS of money!

I enjoyed this episode. Nolan was up to his eyeballs in paperwork for all his car crashes. Then they gave Bishop and him an old clunker to drive. That was pretty funny.
All the rookies are making great strides. Nolan may actually care too much. He'll have to work on not getting overly emotional and beating an abusers brains out and he needs to leave his work behind at night when he goes home. Chen and Nolan make a good couple for now, but I'm not convinced it will last and Lucy doesn't seem anxious for it to progress to the next level. Is that her own feelings or is Bishop's advice to break it off getting into her head?
Chen's substitute TO is too cautious and she doesn't like how he avoids dangerous calls and just hands out tickets. Fortunately, Tim will be back next week although I think he is too hard on her. It makes for an interesting relationship though. Jackson and his TO are my least favorite pairing, but Jackson stepped up his game and handled himself pretty well.

That would make pulling up roots and starting over a little easier. I would hope that if he is working on a relationship that he isn't lying to her about the friend who is just letting him stay there. I think PTVJ's take on it would be interesting, to have his rich firend be involved in something shady that Nolan finds out about later. That would be a good story line, and could really uproot Nolan's life to have to turn in a friend and find a new home.
