As much as Nathan didn’t like his Castle character he knows the Castle fandom is a strong one. Here is a message on the Castle twitter account asking for support for his new show.

Interesting about face now that he needs viewers....sorry, this does not sit well with me at all.

I never got the feeling that he didn't like Richard Castle. I think the show ended on a difficult note for all involved and that can make it uncomfortable to answer certain questions. As we'll never know everything that went on behind the scenes, I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.
