FINALLY! I was so happy to see the Pearson clan again last night! I've sure missed the show. I've read a few very general spoilers about the new season and, after the premier, I can see some of those story lines coming. It looks like we'll see Kate and Toby trying to get pregnant but with Toby going off his meds, that's going to create another whole set of problems. It looks like Kevin and Beth's cousin are going to fall into a relationship despite Beth's warning. I did however, like Beth's talk with Kevin where she revealed how much she actually liked him and didn't want to see him hurt. I totally presumed Beth was thinking Kevin was going to be the bad guy and not her cousin. And, once again, Randall and Deja stole my heart. I love Randall's honesty and the way Deja handled the adoption offer and seeing her dad, was just remarkable. I'm sure there'll be challenges but I love the idea of her joining the family. Then there's Jack and Rebecca. The whole first meeting and date was amazing. Jack was certainly gobsmacked! The best moment for me was when he came clean about the money as they sat in the car in front of Rebecca's place. We're supposed to learn more about his time in Vietnam and his brother this season and the groundwork was laid for that. We're also supposed to finally find out more about how Miguel and Rebecca came to be married this season and I'm sure looking forward to that. There was one scene that is REALLY bugging me because I just can't figure out what's going on! We got another glimpse into the future with Randall and Tess heading down a hallway to see someone - a female. We know Tess is reluctant and now Toby seems to be involved too. I have no idea what's going on!!!!! Does anyone have a theory? ? All in all, it was a very satisfying premier for me. I continue to love the format with so many story lines. I'm looking forward to another fantastic season!

Last night we got to see Rebecca grieving after Jack's death and admitting that it was all she could do just to get out of bed in the morning. All 3 of the kids really need her in various ways but she just doesn't have it in her at that point. It was nice to hear Rebecca confess to Kate in the present that she wishes she'd done more when Kate turned to eating to deal with her grief. After the difficult scene where the family finds out that Kate and Toby are doing IVF, it was touching to see Rebecca help Kate out when Toby wasn't there. Speaking of Toby, I've enjoyed his character so much the first 2 seasons and now it seems I'm going to be hurting for him most of this one! Lots to digest on Randall this time. I was shocked that he withdrew from the college he'd been accepted to. I'm sure he had to have gone to college in order to have the job he had so I guess I'll just have to wait and see how that all works out. I thought the visit to the youth center would be focusing on Deja and her finding a group she could belong to, but instead, it was about Randall and served as yet another reminder of how he exists in a no man's land of being black but not fitting in to the black culture because of his growing up in a white family. As he told Beth, it seems that no matter how hard he tries, it's never quite right. My heart aches for him! I wasn't sure how to interpret his reaction to hearing that Kate said she was the only one who could pass on a piece of their dad. Does anyone else have a thought on that? Three cheers for seeing Randall's dad again! For the life of me, I can't remember his name. I wonder just how the Nigerian woman and her daughter will play a part in his backstory. Kevin finally got taken seriously and I got the feeling that this will certainly help him in his recovery process, but the hints were there about Rebecca's warning to him in regards to her cousin. I'm afraid poor Kevin will get the short end of that stick. Love this show! The hour goes by way too quickly!

Lots of opening doors last night!
Kevin is going to lead us through learning more about Jack's service in Vietnam and the death of his brother. Kate and Toby have their first success in the long battle to get pregnant, and Randall threw out the possibility of running for office. However, Beth's firing may certainly change that. One thing's for sure, they're nowhere near running out of story lines!
As if I didn't already love Jack enough, we see him get his mom out of her oppressive marriage and safely relocated with a friend. I hope she'll stay there but it's not a given. Oh yeah, he also clears the table and does the dishes! They did a great job of portraying the typical housewife who lived to serve her husband and contrasting that with Rebecca's desire to be an independent woman and make a career for herself. All of this brought back echoes from season 1 of Rebecca being reluctant to have children and settle into family life, although she ended up loving her life and her kids. When she tried to go back to singing part time, it caused a lot of conflict with Jack and even a separation so I wonder if we'll see any more regrets from Rebecca. I don't think that she would change her life with Jack and the kids but she may have some lingering 'what if's' as she gets older.
Rebecca's encounter with the old boyfriend's mom was sure interesting. Of course, I'm happy that Rebecca chose to follow her feelings!

I'm looking forward to another fantastic season! Okay, so I'm behind and I just watched the This Is Us season premiere. I'm enjoying the way they're handling Deja's story more than I ever thought I would when she first appeared. I also loved when Beth admitted how much she likes Kevin and her concerns about Zoe. I, too, am looking forward to seeing more of Rebecca and Miguel's relationship. I'm intrigued to find out how they got together and I know I'll enjoy seeing more of Jon Huertas in the role. I always feel something when Miguel shares how he's always the outsider in this close knit family, while still understanding why because Jack was his best friend. I'm also perplexed at to whom Randall and Tess are going to visit in the future. At first I assumed it was Deja and now I'm wondering if it's Kate, but it could literally be almost anyone. Now I need to get caught up on the next two because I'm looking forward to the Vietnam episode this week!

I'm behind in my viewing so I just watched the Thanksgiving episode. I'm finding that I'm losing interest in several story lines they are pursuing. I'm just not enjoying the Vietnam scenes and Jack's brother. I'm not that into Randall's run for office. I really loved the core family but as they branch out into other areas, my interest wanes.
I loved seeing Miguel's family. They were disrespectful to him and he responded in such a great way and we saw at the end that the Pearsons had truly become his 'real' family. I also loved that Toby and Kate were stuck trying to make Thanksgiving dinner. Toby did everything wrong ruining dinner, but ran out and bought Popeyes and other things so they'd have some kind of dinner. Kate had the perfect reaction when she discovered the disaster. She just smiled and said it embodied the perfect Pearson Thanksgiving. The best ones were disasters that they made wonderful because they were together as a family.

On the flip side, I really enjoy the Vietnam story. I've been interested in Vietnam era stories since high school. So many soldiers went over there and became addicts and I feel for Jack as he fights a losing battle to save his little brother.
I’m torn on Randall’s run for office but just when I think I don’t like it, Randall does something that keeps me invested.
I’ve really enjoyed Tess and how they’re handling her coming of age and I like finally seeing Toby and Kate looking happy. Their stress is far from over but I feel like they are approaching things like a couple now.
And I hope we get to see more of Miguel’s story and how he and Rebecca got together. I really like them as a couple because it’s complicated and very real. Spouses die. Spouses get divorced, and then, if they’re lucky, they move on and can still find happiness with someone.
I FINALLY caught up on the series. The winter finale left us with so many questions and I can’t wait to see where they’re taking the Pearsons and the rest of us

I have to agree with ibmjas , my interest in fading. I DVR this show and it's not on my must watch list for the next day. the Vietnam story is the time I lived thru. So many friends and family went over there and came back changed. I was just at an event this weekend "Wreaths Across America" where we put wreaths on veterans graves. My neighbor was in Vietnam. He said it was just a couple of years ago when someone found out that he was a veteran and told him "Thanks for his service" for the first time. He said he almost cried. The guys who came back from that war got no "thanks" from people. It was a sad time in our history. I usually don't want to watch anything about that war.

We were lucky my brother didn't have to go. My 1st husband went over there. He struggled adjusting to life back in the states and couldn't get over people showing up to spit on him when he returned home. It was horrible. There were several veterans at my 1st job. You had to make sure you didn't come up behind them and surprise them or they would lay you out before they knew what they were doing. I thought I would be interested in the Vietnam story though, but I'm not caring for it. I find that a lot of shows that I lose interest in introduce a lot of new people and storylines that I don't care about.

I finally caught up with This Is Us and I thought I’d share some thoughts and see if anyone else is watching.
-Randall/Beth - Randall has been so frustrating to watch the last couple of episodes. This season he quit his job, decided to take a very demanding job a good distance from home with a lesser salary, and then Beth lost her job. Yes, Beth decided to take a job that’s unexpected, but given everything else that happened before this, thinking that things at home might have to change shouldn’t be a shock. And will Randall be unavailable every night and weekend? I felt that Randall took on this waffling, passive-aggressive tone with Beth that really irked me.
-Kevin - He needs to get to an AA meeting and he needs a sponsor asap! I can’t believe they let him leave rehab without having him find a sponsor. Kevin needs to take responsibility for Kevin. No one else can do it for him.
-Kate and Toby. I love Kate as the fierce Mama Bear and I couldn’t imagine her naming her son anything other than Jack. I loved the moment when she spoke to her father. Little Jack was born at 28 weeks, which will be a challenge, but I have a cousin whose daughter was born at 24 weeks and weighing only 1 & 1/2 lbs. She spent several weeks in the NICU, but now she’s 11 years old and you’d never know how she came into the world. I’m hoping for the same outcome for little Jack.
-Rebecca and Miguel. Another time Randall irked me was when he got upset about his mother and Miguel moving to California to be near Kate. Kate deserves to have her mother there and Rebecca deserves the time to bond with Kate and baby Jack. Also, I wish everyone would cut Miguel a break. Although I might not always agree with Miguel, he is the one person always looking out for Rebecca. The adult children should be happy their mother found someone and isn’t alone.
-And they were all so mean to Kate’s friend (I can’t remember her name). She came there to support Kate and they froze her out and ridiculed her. I know it was mostly Kevin but no one else spoke up in her defense. They were all very stressed but I don’t think that’s a good enough reason to be so hostile.
Okay, I think that’s far more than my two cents. What did everyone else think?

I wish I could comment but when I turned on the TV to watch the show on Tuesday, that station's signal was out. I was LIVID! Not only did I miss This Is Us, but I also missed the first half of New Amsterdam. Now I'll have to wait a week until I can watch both shows on the computer. DANG!
