air date Sept 23,2013 Castle and Beckett are engaged. Beckett starts FBI training in Washington D.C. and is assigned to a case. Someone broke into a secured building and may have stolen codes. Castle flies to D.C. and is exposed to a deadly toxin. The code theft was a diversion. www.jigsawplanet.com/?rc=play&pid=2fce06dcb4e0 For me this was the beginning of the end. I feel that if they would have just kept the story with the NYPD homicide stories we would still have the wonderful procedural that we loved. Before they even let them really get together this episode started to pull them apart. Too bad.

I totally agree, Tycho. This was the beginning of the end. The crowning blow was when they made Kate a Captain and wrecked the whole team dynamic. I believe that the show could have easily filled seasons 6 - 8 with the same precinct setup and just more focus on the personal lives of all the characters. We never saw squat about Lanie, Gates or Espo's personal lives and very little of Ryan's. Heaven knows we'd have killed for more of Castle and Beckett as a couple.

I agree with the above opinions but I did love the proposal.

I agree with the above opinions but I did love the proposal. I had to laugh at the proposal since Castle was giving Ryan such grief when he was asking Castle for advice on proposing in an early season, and Castle grabbed the ring and held it out to Beckett saying well you can’t just ask....and that is exactly what he did when he was in love and he needed to finally propose.

We just watched that episode again as we are currently on S3E18 in our quest to rewatch the 1st 6 seasons. It is such fun to watch a truly GOOD TV show and see all the things we loved about Castle. We enjoyed Ryan's proposal as it was just perfect. We so enjoyed the reactions of Rick, Kate, and Javier.

I was thrilled that Kate said yes, but part of me was disappointed that there was so much angst surrounding the big moments in their relationship. From them finally coming together in "Always," to this proposal, to them getting married, the writers focused on ramping up the drama when all I wanted was to see a moment of pure joy. I had always hoped to see that joy when Kate told Rick she was pregnant, but alas, that was never to happen.
