After viewing that 15th anniversary video, I’m craving a Firefly rewatch, and I’d love to do it with my daughter who saw the clip and asked to watch the show. The problem is, she’s only 8, and I’m not sure all of Firefly is appropriate, so I may have to pick and choose episodes.
My two biggest issues are that the Reavers can be seriously scary, and that a main character is a Companion (aka prostitute).
Also, it’s been several years since I’ve watched Firefly so my memory of which episodes have the most issues isn’t clear.
So, I thought maybe some of you hardcore Firefly fans might be able to help.
-Are there any episodes you think it might be best to completely skip? -Which are the scariest Reaver episodes? -Any other episodes with over the top violence you think might be too much? -Any overtly sexual scenes? -And lastly, if you have a great way of explaining a Companion without coming out and saying she’s paid to have sex, I’ve love to hear it.
Thanks for your help!

I don't know about 8. You know your daughter better than us. I would think any reavers would be scary. You might have to worry more about explaining what a prostitute is (I didn't write prostitute. What I said rhymed with chore which Mal kept calling her) than her being curious about a companion. You could say people sometimes pay to have a date.
I'm having trouble remembering everything that is in the episodes. It's been a while since I've watched them. It seems like Shindig would be fun. Mrs Reynolds might be fine. It's obvious she's naked, but I don't think they actually show anything. Trash may be OK too. I think War Games might be scary with all the torture. Out of Gas should be OK. In Arial I think they show drilling into River's head which could be scary. Bushwhacked has Reavers. Jaynestown probably OK. THe Message may be OK. Heart of Gold is where Mal finally gets some action. May be more than you want your daughter to see. Then there is the childbirth thing and the mom shooting the dad dead. I never like Objects in Space. I think it's scary when the guy grabs Kaylee. Can't remember enough about the others to make recommendations.

FYI: I’m only an uncle and never a parent...
You’ve seen an episode and can’t decide then no. Rewatch by yourself and decide what age will make YOU comfortable for her to see it or when she turns 18.
When I was 8 (1980), I watched The Shining on TV and it has haunted me ever since whenever I’m in the dark. Could also be because I watched several other horror movies on TV with my cousins who were age 12 and older.
So my answer is 12 years old.
