Very sad to see her go. I've been a fan even before she found her way to Castle. Capt. Gates will be missed.

IMHO,I would have liked to have PJJ/GATES promoted to another NYPD position and still involved!!! I found PJJ and GATES to be assets to the show, stories, and cast--and PJJ wonderfully supportive of CASTLE cast, crew, team and fandom--and of family and faith!!! I find PJJ to be a marvelous actor!!!

It feels weird for them to do it all of a sudden like this though before the writers even start working. I get the vague feeling though, considering the way she's suddenly been given her pink slip that she may end up being their murder case for the premeire.
Penny's a wonderful lady and Gates kinda grew on me over the last three seasons, she deserved a decent exit stage right like Rueben got, even if it's in the first episode, not shuffled off to Buffalo during the intermission.

That's a shame, she was really coming to her own on this show. She will be missed. I hate it when Networks mess with chemistry. ABC is flexing their muscles. It becomes clear that this show no longer belongs to Marlowe. ABC wants to keep this show alive at least a couple of seasons more. Look for Beckett to eventually become the new Captain at the precinct. And maybe we get a new character. Lets hope that Gates gets promoted. God forbid she goes missing for 2 months.

I agree that she may become a murder victim if ABC wants to attract the viewers to kick off the new season. I hope we do get to see her one more time, but I guess that tweet sounded kinda permanent. So, is it he perfect time to maybe introduce a new character?, unless, of course, ABC wants to save money. The upside would be more airtime for all characters. I thought they were trying to move that way as the second half of the season moved on last year. |

To be honest I at least hope they had Gates move up the ladder (Police Comissioner, Chief of D's, etc..) instead of killing her off. At least that way they can have her back from time to time.

Right. Contract up for renewal, is what I was also thinking. To further that, I'm sure with Nathan & Stana probably getting a substantial raise, it was a business move in letting her go. Not enough budget. My thoughts & opinion only.
Penny's a lovely person. Met her, talked with her, she's down to earth and treats everyone like a friend. Downright delightful. And I'm sure with her immense disappointment, she, as well as anyone in this business, understands, well, that's it's business. Anything can happen, and when you get the break, revel in it, save your $$ and appreciate all you've been given. I have no doubt she has that attitude. I'm happy to have met her, and appreciate all she brought to Castle.

I doubt they'd kill Gates off, unless its an car accident or something. They've already killed Montgomery; 2 Captains would be too much IMO. I'm hoping for a transfer/promotion or she just decides to retire.

I don't expect them to kill off Gates because as ddcnj pointed out, killing off two Captains seems a bit harsh. Honestly, I'll be surprised if we hear more than a line or two about Gates being promoted somewhere and then the entire storyline simply moving forward without her. Since all of the original cast members probably got some sort of a raise (I have no insider knowledge but that's generally the way things work), it wouldn't surprise me if budget issues were also considered in the decision. |

I mentioned this earlier that I would love to see Kate just take a deep breathe and "Exhale" Her character mentioned in Castle's dream that a Captain pushes paper and deals with politics, so it seams like a good time to.work towards that Senate

Same here. If Kate ran for State Senate now, the political machine in Albany would eat her alive. She needs seasoning, a job that is both familiar (NYPD) and makes her deal with the press more. (Even Bracken had to start small) I hope Gates replaces the Police Commissioner who tried to pimp Kate out to Eric Vaugn and then tried to keep her from coming back after FBI thing fell through. That would be poetic justice. She would also be in a position to keep Castle from getting kicked out again. But that's just me. |
