Hi everyone
So someone mentioned this show to me and I thought that I would check it out because of what is supposed to happen to the magician. However once I saw this trailer, I cancelled that thought. Until I can compare Take Two with this show is it just me or does anyone else think that this is ABC's new version of Castle?

I'm REALLY looking forward to seeing this! Dramedies are my favorite genre and this one looks like it's right up my alley.

We watched last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. Yes, it's very Castle-esque but that's what we loved about it.

Two things: First: I am back:) Boy, does the Master's program keep one busy, on top of being in the TA program, and working as a tutor at my college's Writing Resource Center.
Second: My mom and I decided to watch Deception. We liked it. I did catch a bit of a Castle vibe, including a couple of scenes that kind of mirrored Castle's pilot episode (the handcuff scene, and the alley scene), but, overall, Deception held its own and I hope that it does well and gets ahead for a second season.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH We enjoyed it a lot. There certainly were Castle vibes in the show but it still works for us. I thought the lead actors were good together and had some chemistry. We have our fingers crossed that it will do well. Obviously, a lot depends on the next few episodes.

I enjoyed Deception. Seemed to take several shots from the Castle playbook. She handcuffed him to the car. He called her his beautiful assistant like Castle called Beckett his muse. Both got similar results. She pretended not to be interested in magic or to have seen his shows, but later confessed she had seen them like Beckett pretended not to be a fan. Then there was the standoff in the alley with the guy in danger.
As soon as he showed up in disguise, my husband said "That's him!" I hadn't figured it out yet but as soon as he said it, I could see it. I liked both actors and I liked the star-struck guy that kept saying, "That's Cameron Black!" I love the light-hearted crime dramas and this looks like it will fit the bill.

I wanted to like it, but I just didn't. Maybe it's because I'm not a big fan of magic, but it fell flat for me. I didn't feel any real chemistry and neither of the main actors grabbed my attention. And the moments that made me think of Castle made me feel like this was a hollow imitation. Maybe I'll try a second episode and see if I feel any differently, but after the pilot it's not high on my list. This Sunday, I plan to watch Instinct on CBS which has a similar concept. Perhaps I'll like that better.

Maybe I'll try a second episode and see if I feel any differently, but after the pilot it's not high on my list. This Sunday, I plan to watch Instinct on CBS which has a similar concept. Perhaps I'll like that better. I thought Instinct was really almost a Castle clone....other than the married gay lead character. There were so many similarities to Castle I started writing them down. My impressions... Instinct is about a professor/author, Dr. Dylan Reinhart, who joins forces with Lizzie Needham, an NYPD detective, to solve a series of murders based on a theory in the professor’s psychology book. Other than the fact that Reinhart is a married gay man, I felt Instinct really was a take-off on Castle. Reinhart had one successful book and is now dealing with kind of a writer’s block with his second book. The killer is leaving clues based on the guy’s book, a psychology book that uses a theory about playing cards. And the killer is leaving playing cards as a clue to his next victim, just like in Kill Shot. There was a lot of back-and-forth between the detective and the professor. And the guy was ready with a theory at every turn, just like Castle in the early years. She denied reading his book but later admitted to having read it 3 times. And he follows orders about as well as Castle. Like Castle, he has guys. Did a little reading up on this series….it’s actually based on a book by James Patterson, and he is one of the producers. The book was published in June 2017….wonder if he took any inspiration for the story from Castle.

Tycho - up until the end of S6, no program was ever even close to Castle in my viewing. Alas after that disastrous episode, I found myself comparing Castle to other shows and it was a "why couldn't Castle do that?" moan. Thanks for the comments everyone. To me it appears to be one of those shows that you will either love or hate, not an "it's ok" kinda show. PTVJ - not sure if the UK has this show yet and I know that trailers can be deceptive, but are also supposed to sell the show, and after seeing the trailer it's a nah, not gonna bother from me for the reasons that you have posted, except I don't mind magic but probably more the kind that you find in fantasy shows.
