Hi All, As both a writer and TV fan I've been following this rather closely. A lot of people don't even know it's happening. The WGA (Writers Guild of America) may be going on strike if they can't reach an agreement with the AMPTP (Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers). This link gives a very comprehensive look at why that may happen... www.vox.com/culture/2017/4/19/15265700/wga-strike-writers-guild-hollywoodIf it happens, the timing of this could interrupt fall TV programming as most of the writing for the new season begins soon. There was a 14 week writers strike back in 2007 but I was working a lot of hours back then and barely remember it. The one that sticks in my memory is the longest writers strike in 1988. It lasted 22 weeks. I was a teenager and I remember having to wait months for new episodes of all of my favorite shows. Hopefully that won't happen this time around.

The biggest thing I remember about the writers' strike in 2007 is that it opened up the opportunity for Joss Whedon to gather Nathan and Neil Patrick Harris and create Dr. Horrible. I will always be thankful for that! I'd so love to see the sequel come to life now.

Very in depth article about the strike. We know how the writers impact a TV show. I hope they get the compensation they deserve. I am hoping this gives Joss, Nathan and Neil the opening to do Horrible 2. I remember watching the original as it came out on You Tube. It was such a different way to distribute this at the time.

Maybe there was a '...writers' strike...' near the end of the Castle TV Series. Yes, I am still disappointed.
Somewhat related...or, maybe such interesting little-known-fact:
The 'Geico Gecko' first appeared in 1999 during a Screen Actors Guild strike that prevented the use of live actors.. The use of an animated character was not involved in the strike. That character was so successful that little guy is still going strong!

I didn't know that larryholmes. Very cool. I'm hoping that with the Upfronts in two weeks, it will be even more incentive for the AMPTP to reach an agreement. The UpFronts are when the TV networks make big presentations to ad buyers. They're basically selling ad time for all of their new and returning shows for the following year. This year it takes place the third week in May. I would think that selling ad time will be tricky if you can't guarantee when those shows will make it to air because your writers are on strike.

Thankfully, it appears that a writers strike has been avoided. The writers current contract ended at midnight (PT) last night. I was following the WGA and many of my favorite writers on Twitter when the deadline came and went with no word. The negotiations continued until 1am(PT)/4am(ET) but it appears a deal was finally reached. The WGA will present it to their members on Thursday for a vote. Fingers crossed that all goes well.

Thanks for these updates, Christine. I was not aware that the previous contract was up until I saw an article on TVGuide.com this weekend. It also mentioned that the previous writer's strike was what opened the door for Dr. Horrible to be done. Did not know that about Dr. Horrible before now.

Glad it all worked out! I would hate to think that the tube would be over-run with reality TV.

And, forgive me for not saying initially, Christine, I'm thankful for your job security with strike being averted!

I remember the 2007 one because it interrupted the schedule for Battlestar Galactica halfway through a major story arc, but other than that it wasn't memorable.

B. Schedules should continue as normal and without interruption. Now we just have to wait and see what shows on the bubble are renewed and which aren't.
