Where is the old DWTS magic when you really need it. At best those are pretty bad numbers for a Castle episode.

Where is the old DWTS magic when you really need it. At best those are pretty bad numbers for a Castle episode. Yeah, but it's not just Castle or ABC, it's a general trend. The Voice used to consistently get 4.0+ in its demo but now it gets a 2.6. Even NCIS: Los Angeles which had great numbers on Tuesday nights only got a 1.4 in the demo and a total of 7.82 million viewers and it's always been a really solid performer. As much as I want to see higher numbers for Castle, the lower numbers seem to be an overall trend and not specific to the show.

I've been thinking long and hard about TV ratings and I believe people just are not watching TV shows that much anymore. There's just so much entertainment out there. I know the guys at work all watch sports channels and they only sit in on TV shows when their wife forces them to. Most I believe are lost to social media. I know I spend a heck of a lot of time on YouTube, Facebook, Tumblr, and Pinterest not to mention the other forums and blogs I visit, mostly health, fitness, and Paleo, but also audio/video and computers. And if they are interested in a TV show, it'll be at their convenience which explains binge watching - guilty here.
I think in this day and age, if your show doesn't keep the audience's attention or your sneak peak isn't interesting, *poof*, they're gone.

The market is changing. There's a lot of TV viewing not being done on TVs. A lot of folks are watching online and binge watching. Take a look at NBC's new show Aquarius with David Duchovny. After it airs the premiere live on May 28th, it will be releasing the entire season online and I think they're getting quite a bit for those online ads.

I think there is definitely something to be said for binge watching...I watch only one show on TV (NCIS) because my husband likes the show, too (and it doesn't hurt that it's on at 8 ). Otherwise I catch all current shows via "alternative" sites as soon as I can fit them in my schedule.... but when I discover a show that has already aired that piques my interest, I'm a definite binge watcher, and I think it's great to be able to just keep trucking through without ads and without weeks' long interrupted airing. And I think it keeps everything cohesive and if there is one ep that's a little "off" you can just move right along to the next ep without WAITING!

I actually binge watched Castle that first season. I had the first five episodes recorded before I ever watched the pilot. However, as soon as I did watch I was completely hooked and so glad my husband convinced me to set up a season pass on our Tivo for a show I was going to take a pass on because I was too busy to watch. It's something he's reminded me of for years, especially when he needs to get out of trouble.

I don't even want to watch a new show anymore. It seems when I enjoy a show they just pull the plug after a few episodes and they leave you hanging. I've decided it's easier to just binge watch after its picked up. Also it is cheaper than pasting for months of HBO or one of the other extra pay channels. They can't do that with a show like Castle. They would have to wait a year to get enough in the can. I envy people who have just discovered the show. They don't have the anguish of waiting 3 months to see what happens next.

Sent from my SCH-I605 using proboards I binged watched. I was introduced to Castle with 5x20. I had so many question about when that got together that I decided to just purchase 1-4 and was addicted like a drug.

Of course after four years, watching "Always" for the first time was a great payoff.
