I loved both Captains, although they were both very different. Oddly enough, the only Captain I didn't enjoy was Beckett.

The captain was missed when he left but I much prefer this kind of "shake-up" to the way they did it a couple of seasons later. I know that Ruben was from NY city and I think he thought, since the show was set in NYC, it would be filmed in NYC. I know it was hard for him to commute back and forth. He was also looking at doing more on Broadway and this freed him up to do that. The cast and crew always looked him up when they visited NYC.

I agree both captains were great, in the beginning I was not a fan of Gates, but she did grow on me and at the end truly liked the character.

Penny loved the role and was happy to attend a Castle Con. She is a fun person in person. I think we slowly learned this part of her personality in the later episodes.
