I wish I was a good writer like RG but I will give this a try.
Our last day on the island for the summer we were finishing packing. We took a break for some scheduled hair cuts. Hubs usually goes to the local barber but the line was 8 men deep so he went this time to the lady who does my hair. I decided to let my hair go gray and not color it anymore. She was doing some funky process to make it "transition " so it wouldn't be sudden. As the "process" was doing its thing Hubs stepped into get his hair done. He got a nice shampoo with scalp message. "Boy, the barber never does this ",he said. She started the hair cut at this point. I am sitting in the next chair checking my phone. There are 5 bars of 4G in town so I wanted to take advantage. All the sudden the hair dresser says "John is having s seizure"!!! I jump up and and at his side. He came back almost right away but was disoriented. I told her to go and call 911. The island EMT's are a well oiled machine. They were there in minutes. They wanted to take him up the road to the hospital. As they were hooking him up to the IV . This is never an easy thing on Hubs as he has deep small veins. After a couple of tries the IV was in. The ER nurse said that Chad was great at putting in a line and it was rare to see him have to try more than once. I quickly had Christy wash my chemicals out of my hair did a quick brush and stuck my hat on to jet to the hospital. Nice thing about something like this happening here is that you are the only person in the ER. The receptionist recognized me when I walked in. I had helped her autistic son this summer when he came to do some reinactments at the Park. Hubs had all the nurses and the doc working to find out what had happened. After 3 hrs of blood tests, brain scans, other scans, more blood tests ( the nurse had to use every technique she new and then some new ones to get some blood out of the turnip...) the doc finally concluded that Hubs was dehydrated and this caused him to faint after getting his hair washed. His head was tilted back and it gets pinched at the neck in those sinks. When he sat up again he could feel himself getting light headed and had told Christy "I'm going to faint", and then he did.
Looking back on the 24 hrs before Hubs hadn't had any water to drink the day before. He went to bed early and didn't sleep worth a poop all night. He woke up with a splitting headache and asked for Tylenol. Thank God neither of us gets headaches so I had to search thru the medical supplies and I finally found some Advil. He had a nice cup of coffee with his toast for breakfast. He had walked up to by some Tylenol at the local drug store and stopped off at the grocery store on the walk back and got 2 fresh chocolate chip cookies. So...no water for a long time.
Moral of of the story...drink more water. I am now putting special refillable water bottles in the fridge just for Hubs to make sure he gets his daily water.
I am am just thankful it was nothing major as we head home today. I really didn't want to drive the RV all the way home like I did 2 yrs ago from the island. Oh and Christy finished cutting both of us at 5:30 after she closed for the day. You have to love the wonderful people on the island.
