This is a behind the scenes video from the filming of Serenity (the Firefly feature film). I’d never before seen this video, so I thought I’d post it here. I didn’t watch Firefly until the second season of Castle but oddly enough, I’d already seen Serenity. When I saw it, it was just a really fun sci-fi movie to me and nothing more. I can see why all of the actors loved this project. I know some people get upset when Nathan speaks so fondly of Firefly, more so, in their opinion, than Castle, but I think it’s comparing apples and oranges. Firefly was 14 episodes. Castle was 100+. With Firefly, everyone was younger, more or less starting out, and the show was cancelled before it had barely started. After watching this video, I can see why this project has a special place in the of everyone involved.

What a love fest. I didn't see Firefly until after Castle started. My roommate from college listed on her Facebook page that her favorite tv show was Firefly. I asked her what Firefly was about? I would have watched it when it first came out but I rarely watched the Fox channel. Thanks for posting. This was interesting to watch.

This is an extra on my DVD copy of the movie and I just love to see everyone being so natural.
I love what Joss said at the end of the piece - that he wants to live with these characters and go through what they go through. I think that's how I felt too. I could feel the sense of family and wanted to be a part of that. Whether I'm reading a book or watching something, it's characters that resonate with me and these Firefly / Serenity characters that Joss created are awesome. They're multi- layered, believable and fascinating.
I really do think that the love the cast members have for each other shines through in their on screen chemistry.
