Join in our look back at 1x02 "Nanny McDead" Summary: Castle's first case with the NYPD has him and Beckett solving the case of a nanny found dead in a spin dryer. We encourage you to rewatch the episode if you have the time but either way, we'd love to hear your thoughts on this episode.

There were some great moments in this episode! One thing that was monumental was that Castle's respect for Kate and how she handled people grew exponentially after he watched her talk the young girl into dropping the knife before she hurt herself or someone else. The more he saw Kate in action, the more he was in awe of her abilities. I also LOVED the old guy who answered the apartment door and thought Kate wanted to have sex with him! That was hysterical and the scene also showed up on the blooper reel.

When Kate talked to the girl with the knife, it was one of many moments over the years when Rick realized that Kate was no ordinary detective or woman. It still amazes me that the chemistry was so strong already so early in the show's run.

Yes, the chemistry between the two leads was almost overwhelming in this episode. It's one of the many reasons that this has always been one of my favorite episodes.

I haven't had the time to go back and watch this episode yet but I always loved that this is where we found out that Castle chose not to have a nanny for Alexis (which he could more than afford) and instead decided to be a stay-at-home Dad. Yes, being a writer allowed him that option but not everyone would chose it. I always thought that it told us a lot about his character.

There are so few good fathers on tv. It was a welcome change. Sent from my SM-N910V using proboards

Totally agree with PTVJ and Tycho. Learning what a committed dad Castle was, started to reveal the man who existed behind the rich, carefree public personality. We, the viewers, saw it much earlier than Kate did.

I loved this episode. If the pilot had me intrigued, I think this one had me hooked. To go along with the conversation about Castle being the stay-at-home dad, I always liked this conversation:
Alexis Castle: How come we never had a nanny? Richard Castle: Well, your mother and I decided if someone was going to screw you up, we wanted it to be me. Only you managed to turn out fine somehow anyway.

It's interesting that you focused on that remark, Fossie. I really wonder just how much Meredith would have had to say about raising Alexis. I always had the impression she wanted nothing to do with motherhood. Do we really know how old Alexis was when Meredith left?

The first episode Flowers For Your Grave had me hooked, but as you got into the series all the characters grew, I of course loved the fact Castle was a stay at home dad, and at the end when he looked at the picture, but I always have a smile on my face when Beckett gets off the elevator and is going the wrong way till Castle directs her. It just cracks me up.

I think this was the episode where Castle has everyone captivated with the story of who lives in3B. They were all hanging on his words. Then he finishes and they all kind of look like he might have spun the story of what happened. The Captain says someone better look into who lives in 3B. We really see what a great storyteller Castle is and why the "story" was so important. I hope this was the right episode. I didn't go back and look.

They were speculating who in the building might have killed the girl, and that's when Castle spun the story about the guy in 3B. I also love that scene; he had them all completely hooked, and then when he was done they were all sitting there looking like they were waiting for more of the story. Just one of many classic Castle scenes.

Hi everyone
I love the 1st scene between Castle & Beckett because it shows how much he appears to annoy her. The NY lawyer is explaining the waiver and Beckett wants to know if she can shoot Castle. She then gets the call and happily advises that he has paperwork to deal with. Loved the guys on the crime scene with Ryan talking etiquette of washing machines. What got me was Kate telling Espo she thought he did commando and he replies that it's a seasonal thing?? I like that Montgomery sent Castle to the crime scene and he shows his ability to get information. As tycho says this was the episode we get to see what a good storyteller Castle is with his tale of the guy in 8B. Alexis and Rick both talk nannies. I absolutely LOVE the morgue scene when Lanie says the victim had sex and because of Beckett's reaction, Castle tells her he will explain things to her. We see Castle in interrogation with the boyfriend, asking questions and taking notes. We get to know how many times Castle was married and that Beckett is a 'one and done' but doesn't answer Castle when he asks if there was someone serious. Liked when Ryan teased Beckett with the name of a suspect and she wouldn't play. Like nathanfan I thought the offer of sex from the 77yrs old was funny. The way Castle keeps passing behind Beckett and telling her about the condoms in the bathroom then calls the phone of the husband. The way Castle watches Beckett doing her job when she gets Chloe to give up the knife.
What has always intrigued me about this episode is the information on Beckett. Who was the guy that broke her heart? She doesn't answer Castle when he asks if there were any serious candidates, she tells Chloe a guy's lies can break your heart, and that divorce for the husband was not enough after what he had done.
B.x
