Hello Castle fans. I was fortunate to be able to attend the world premier of Stana Katic's movie Sister Cities at a film festival in Michigan. Here is their teaser for the movie:
“In this twisty and finely-observed family drama of Chekhovian simplicity, four estranged and wildly different sisters—each named after the city they were born in—are called home following the death of their mother. Free-spirited force of nature Mary Baxter lived a whirlwind life, and left her daughters adrift in her wake. After they arrive for Mary’s funeral, clashes ensue, alcohol is consumed, memories are triggered, and secrets bubble up. By turns awkward, funny, and moving, much like real-life family reunions, the fiery and forceful women at the film’s center give this American dramedy a winning appeal.”
I don't want to give away the plot, so I'll just say it is a serious film dealing with difficult decisions. The movie was described as a “dark comedy” and the audience did laugh out loud throughout the story. In hindsight some of the chuckles now seem inappropriate, but the levity was a lifeline as the tale twisted our guts! I can see why the role and subject matter would appeal to a serious actress.
Stana played the oldest sister whose character is aloof and judgmental. She drinks- a lot - and smokes cigarettes so I didn't feel like I was watching Kate Beckett. Katic displayed acting skills which were (to me) reminiscent of the episode about Beckett's PTSD.
Since I am a huge Castle fan, my brain did make a few leaps where none were intended. In the movie Stana's character is a lawyer (and the movie is centered around the death of the mother.) One of her sisters is a best selling author. Their last name is Baxter which was fine until they shortened it to “Bax” and I kept hearing “Becks” (the nickname her high school friend Madison used.) Yeah, I think this might be an indication I have OCD = Obsessive Castle Disorder!
I am thrilled to see Stana demonstrate her serious acting abilities and she was great, but Castle fans should know it's not a light and fluffy movie.

Than you for the write up on the movie. I have been hoping that Stana would find some juicy roles that would show off her talents. So glad she was able to fit this into her Castle schedule between seasons. I'm sorry I'm not home now as Phoenix has a theater that usually shows these limited release movies. Our Phoenix group could have made it a night out like we did for Nathan's" Much ado about nothing " movie.

If you want a chance to see the movie, follow it on Facebook (Sister Cities Movie) and Twitter #SisterCitiesMovie. According to the producer, they are "working out" distribution and looking at everything from streaming to DVD as well as some more theater showings. There is also a play upon which the movie is based which is supposed to be performed in Chicago (but that won't help out Katic fans.) I should also say that Stana played a pivotal role in the movie. There was one sister who had more screen time, but the oldest sister was fundamental in the tension and climax of the story.

You can also read the play - www.indietheaternow.com/Play/sister-cities I can hardly wait to see the movie and I hope my local Lifetime channel (Poland) is going to air it as well after the US Lifetime purchased rights to the movie!
