SPOILERS AHEAD IF YOU HAVEN'T YET WATCHED THE EPISODE! Adelaide certainly has a lot to think about and so does Houdini. Will they never speak of this kiss again? Really? Looked to me like she wanted to "Talk" more. I can only guess they had to leave things this way because of the renewal issue. Houdini has been trying very hard to gain ground with her and obviously he got deeper than he realized. She covers her emotions well, but all the while she was going deeper and wanted to explore this relationship. Little did she know her dead husband would be in the picture. And Doyle got a good talking to by a caring friend. She is not dead he tells her....help her to live. He is so torn apart at this point, that he can't see any light whatsoever. Sometimes a clear and caring voice can make all the difference. Their relationship has really grown. Bromance lives. The kicker will be if she tells Houdini what is going on because now she knows she cannot pursue this because she, and to a certain extent, he might be killed. It is Castle in 1900. She is the old time Beckett. And trust me, she is flawed now. I find myself really drawn to this show. There is so much going on and we meet people from history and see a much different side to them. It really is entertaining. But that darn kiss...........timeless. And who is the chick at the gravesite? Goosebumps. I think I have found my replacement show. But I am still fiercely loyal to Midsummer Murders as well. Love Chief Inspector Barnaby. And oh yes....LOVED YOUR REVIEW.

It's definitely a bubble show so FOX could go either way with it. I never expect Benjamin to appear. I certainly hope Adelaide tells Houdini. She'll probably have to if he keeps pushing her about solving his case. And how does Adelaide deal with Benjamin! I know his life was in danger but he not only left her thinking he was dead, he let her believe it was suicide and even had her be the one to find his "body." How cold, calculating, and horrible! She has to be wondering if she ever really knew him at all. And how long is she supposed to wait for him to come back? Would he have ever come back if she hadn't pursued the case? I have so many questions! I need a season 2!

I admit, I am curious about a number of things:
Does Adelaide tell her erstwhile partners about Benjamin?
Is BENJAMIN actually the bad guy on the run and not the ones he's supposedly on the run from?
Does he die... again... for real this time and will Adelaide, Houdini and Doyle have to investigate his murder?
Things which will likely be left up in the air for season 2 if there is one.
Dammit this is why I didn't want to get caught up in this show yet!!! Grrrrrrrrrr

I hope Fox renews but I find usually if I like a show they cancel it. I try and not watch until season two because of this but I got sucked back into this show....

I really enjoyed this episode! Your review was great too. It was heartbreaking watching Adelaide talking to Benjamin through the necrophone even though it was just a dream. Heartbreaking again for her to discover that her husband was alive. Maybe he had good reason to try to protect her and himself, but no one could do anything more hurtful than to fake their own death. I really didn't understand about the baby getting buried in the basement. It didn't seem like they were trying to hide the baby's death which is the only reason I could think of for burying it in the basement. No one investigated babies deaths back then anyway. Did I miss an explanation? From everything I've read about Edison, he was quite the jerk, so I thought he was played well. I thought it was great that Houdini brought up how poorly Edison treated Tesla and how much of a genius he was while Edison got all the recognition. Of course Edison was a genius as well. Apparently 2 geniuses can't get along well. Houdini was more torn up about his mother's death than he would let on and although he didn't believe that Edison's machine could talk to the dead, I think he was hoping against hope that just maybe he could communicate with his mother again. The mystery woman who kept showing up watching Houdini was very mysterious. It jumped into my mind that it was a younger version of his mother. Of course that makes no sense, but who could she be and why would she be following Houdini? Could his mind be playing tricks on him? Will we find out in the season finale? I hope this gets renewed. I don't think I'll ever be passionate about it, but I enjoy most of the episodes.

Watched the final tonight. I have suspected Benjamin for a while as being a bad guy. Interesting final. I look forward to a season 2

I can't believe I guessed right about the mystery woman!
I'm glad they wrapped up all the immediate mysteries in case this doesn't get renewed. Doyle is writing again and has resurrected Holmes. Benjamin is no longer a mystery so Adelaide can try to move on with her life and possibly have a relationship with Houdini. I feel like they left it in a good spot.

I really wanted to be wrong about Benjamin. For her sake. I really did.
That Adellaide had to be the one to shoot him is likely the cruelest cut of all.

Aren't British constables famous for not carrying firearms? Well, she is an Edwardian lady traveling abroad. Though the idea that British police of the era were not issued firearms is a popular misconception. The "Bobbies" on foot patrol did not carry them because their job was primarily crowd control a truncheon was generally enough for that.
