Tonight we get to learn more about Iron Gates and her family, which should be very interesting. PLease come back after the show to share your observations
I like the way this episode was balanced. We had some great Caskett interaction, a good personal story line with Gates and her sister, Elizabeth, and a case full of all kinds of seemingly dead ends. I enjoyed every aspect.
I never even try to solve the cases. I just enjoy watching it all unfold and most often, I like to enjoy the performances of the guests. I especially liked the Wall St. tycoon and the gang member who was obviously moved by the death of his friend. I thought that Gates' sister was well cast too. They looked pretty similar if you account for an age difference and they sure both had the intensity that would have gotten them where they are today.
I liked how we were kept in the dark about the rift between the sisters during the first half. Of course, Castle was anxious to get the story but it was a great scene in the break room when Victoria opened up to Kate. It speaks volumes of the trust Gates has in Kate now. I guess it was fairly predictable, since this IS Castle, that we'd have a happy resolution to the difference between the sisters, but that doesn't make it any less enjoyable to see happen. Penny did such a wonderful job throughout the episode with the gamut of emotions she had to show. The scene where the sisters confronted each other angrily was so good but I especially liked the silent scene, alone in her office, when Gates was contemplating calling Elizabeth. This show is blessed with so much talent in the supporting cast!
In terms of the back story with Gates, I liked that her character was always consistent. She was by-the-book back then in IA and was still prepared to do her job properly this time too, even though it might have further damaged her relationship with Elizabeth. I also liked how well the title of the episode was woven into the story line. I'm a sucker for meaningful titles.
I'm also a sucker for grammar and literary references so the opening scene was fun with writer- man talking metaphors and Kate doing an impromptu Dr. Seuss bit. I was geeking out! Of course, Castle couldn't let the roller coaster idea go and tried to disguise it as "intimate," but Kate knows him so well! Thank goodness for Ryan and his weak stomach, which seemingly ended that train of thought. The middle scene was precious as Martha went from being their unbiased help to a part of the problem in a heartbeat. That woman can take the smallest moment on camera and make something wonderful out of it. I appreciated the fun continuity of mentioning Aunt Theresa and her Facebook comment again. So they're looking at 582 guests, which brings us to the closing scene.
Kate nailed it by asking the question - why are we doing this? - and they're both on the same page in agreeing that it should be for them. As they try to write down only the people who they wouldn't be happy without including, it gets pretty simple. YOU. sigh ............ I LOVE the fact that this time Castle initiates the kisses by taking Kate's head and pulling her in for the kisses! Those two have got this couple thing down to perfection IMO! Even though they start to make a list again, I'm more than ever convinced that we truly are going to see a simpler wedding, surrounded by the people they love, and truly intimate in every way. Bring it on Mr.Marlowe!
I forgot to mention how much I adored Mr. Fillion in the lighter gray tweed coat. YUMMY! I also noticed some definite bicep porn going on in that t-shirt in the last scene. WHEW! Nice to see some variation in his wardrobe.

Agree with you Nathanfan,a small intimate wedding in the Hamptons has been mentioned before and I think that would be perfect.
Enjoyed all the twist and turns of TCOTW. P.J.J. really got to shine in this one and she came through for the team. Stana just gets better looking as time goes by. She's blessed that way!
I just watched the ep again this morning and had to chuckle over the quick scene with Ryan and Espo listening to the wire recordings. The talk turns to sisters and Ryan remembers some ugly scenes between his sisters, which is good continuity. Back in season 2, A Rose For Ever After, Ryan talks about the dresses in his sisters' weddings. Espo, ever the flirt, indicates that he sure wouldn't mind getting to know Gates' sister better.
Last night's show really did give all of the cast members some decent screen time and I love that because they're all so enjoyable to watch.
Been a busy beaver, with a project I hope to have posted here in due time, so I just now finally have a chance to say my piece. I really enjoyed this episode. It was nice to gain some back story on Gates and the whole guest list scenario was a hoot to watch

So, we finally have reference to more of Kate's family. Aunt Teresa. Which side? Mom or Dad? I hope Johanna's side cause then Kate would have her mom's sister there.Another wonderful episode. I am really enjoying the episodes and scenes this year that give us a little more insight into the supporting cast and, of course, the tidbits about our beloved Caskett. It was great to find out about Gates and her sister. I also very much enjoyed the episode with the birth of Ryan and Jenny's baby. AM and company have made this the best season of CASTLE yet
