Always, subtext, "love eyes", and coffee. So many things made this a wonderful show.

I saw the promo for the pilot, and thought, "This looks promising." I was a little familiar with Nathan from Firefly, because my good friend was a devoted Browncoat and clued me in.
At the end of the pilot, I looked at my husband and said, "I think I just found my new favorite show."
The rest is history. There is so much I will take away from this show, from the intensity of the love story, to the dear friends I've made, to being able to gush and rant about everything with all of you here. And I will watch and rewatch for years to come. The internet didn't exist in its current form when I was crazy obsessed with Who's The Boss?, Lois and Clark, Dr. Quinn, and Days of Our Lives -- and that's probably a good thing because I might not have graduated high school if I had access to Tumblr back then, lol! I'm a little (stress little) more in control of my obsessions than I was at 16, and I'm even more grateful to have found other people like me who get so emotionally invested in fiction.
No one questions a football fan who buys autographed gear, follows fantasy leagues, and dresses up in consume every Sunday, but for some reason, we're perceived as crazy because we make the same kind of time, emotional, and financial investment in a tv show.
Castle wasn't my first obsession, and I doubt it will be my last, but it made a unique impact. It was the first time I was a peer of the character I idolized, and it helped me recognize and embrace my own strengths of character and even appreciate the ways in which I am different.
As much as I'm going to miss my Castle Mondays and seeing new episodes every week, I won't deny I've been down this road enough times to be able to appreciate having a complete story to rewatch, dissect, and enjoy time and again. Like a favorite book, we can go back and revisit these characters time and again, knowing they aren't going to change ever again. No one can mess them up again. No one can break them up. No one else has to die. They story is told, and while we may not like every chapter, now we can really begin to dig deep into who they are as fictional people. Yes, I will miss new episodes, but I will love being able to talk about the characters without wondering whether future developments will change what we've come to count on.
So yes, my feelings are mixed today, but I don't regret a moment of the past 7 years. Now it's time to bring on Phase II -- Post-Castle Discussion!
See you all on the other side!

The story and the characters. That's always been the most important part of anything I watch or read, and Castle had both as shinning stars. I started watching this show after soon after my mom started watching it, towards the end of season two but, it wasn't until the end of season three that I became hooked (although I did start glancing at the message boards around "Close Encounters of the Murderous Kind," and I will always count that one as one of my most favorite episodes of the series). After finally joining the boards, I was, and am, grateful to everyone I got to meet here on boards. I've known about fandoms before but, I never fully got into one as I did for Castle, (the closest is probably when I was waiting for the last book in The Inheritance Cycle to come out and even then, I didn't participate as much as I have here). I was amazed by the depths of analysis everyone was writing about each episode and it pushed me to dig deeper myself which, I believe has helped me in my own work towards my degree in English (in fact a couple of months ago, it was thinking about the various analysis on the characters of Castle and Kate and their relationship that helped me get over a touch of writer's block as I was writing an essay on Pride and Prejudice and the relationship of Elizabeth and Darcy and the ties to the "Beauty and Beast" motif, a motif I believe Castle holds as well, which I might just analyze further as soon as I get the chance). I was also amazed by the creativity of this fandom both in the fanvids and later, fanfiction. While, I think I enjoyed writing fanfiction more than creating fan videos, I am proud of myself for taking the chance to create the videos that I did, I learned a lot that I never knew before.
So as this beloved show takes it final bow tonight, I would like raise a toast to an amazing run. To a show that really changed my perspective on tv and its ability to tell amazing stories that can hold their own with the literature I love to read and write about. To a show that has allowed me to hear the voices and perspectives of people from all over the world. To a show that pushed me into new creative avenues. So thank you Castle and a thank you to the cast and crew who brought us this show. I don't know if I will ever be as invested in a tv series again as I was with Castle but, you taught me that tv can be more then just mild entertainment on any given night. That it can in fact be as interesting and as deep as a good book. And, from this day onward, Castle will always be a bright spot in my television viewing history and a measure to which I will measure many a new show.

Even though she isn't here, I thankfully am able to talk to her daily. These banners have been a part of my Castle history, and the good old days when Teel was making them for everyone. I know I'm not the only one who misses her "crazy" here! So, here's a little bit of her.... and a little bit of me. My beloved banners. And I will forever be a One Writer Girl. Thank you, Teel, for your joy, your talent, and your friendship!

I surely second your sentiment, CK! Teel was so much a part of the fun and creativity we all enjoyed. Here's to her as well as several others who shared our Castle journey on the various boards!

One of the things that truly amazed me was how a "silly" TV show could bring together people from all over the world and diverse backgrounds. I never knew that you could do that until Castle. LOL, but we could not wait til Monday rolled around and weren't the summers just agony??? We could pick apart every episode and laugh, argue, and stick in our 2 cents worth and still be pals. I think that that is what I will miss the most. Thank all of you for making this such a wonderful time and just pure fun.

This is the first night I was in L.A. for the Castle Convention in November, 2012. We went downtown to Casey's, aka The Old Haunt, and had dinner. I had Guiness Stew, it was amazing! Needless to say, that was the beginning of many incredible moments that weekend, and memories that will last a lifetime. That following Monday is when a handful of us met Nathan. I love these ladies! I hope they're okay with me posting this photo. I'm sure some of you have seen it before, but had to put it here.

Richard Castle taught me that at least once in your lifetime you should have smorelette. So, as we prepare to say goodbye tonight that is exactly what I had for dinner, and a cherry flavored frozen drink that may or may not have liquor added to it. This is my second adventure with the infamous smorelette and it's actually not half bad, provided you can get past the whole eggs and chocolate thing.

Before I head out for the night I thought I would share a graphic stroppygirl made for me of one of my all-time best Richard Castle moments. Makes my heart hurt to this day. And the last one for today.....collage I made of the fabulous photoshoot that sent us all into giddy meltdown mode. It's still my favorite ever.

Watched Hollanders Wood as well as Flowers for your Grave tonight on TNT I still can't believe it is over but what a really great ride it was to me the best series ever on TV.
