Castle loves these sort of cases.
In fact the wackier the better, especially if he can mix up a few theories.
The highlight of the episode of course was the scene with Kate and Alexis. I wondered the same thing Kate did, if Alexis' reluctance to move back to the loft was because of Kate. So glad Kate decided to tackle the question and get it out of the way rather than stewing over it. And loved how the conversation turned out, and that Kate gave Alexis advice without lecturing her. And that Alexis took her advice, and that silent "thank you" at the end.
I also loved Kate's little frustrated comments like, "Get in line," and "I'm going to shoot somebody." It was so cute when she watched Castle get so excited and couldn't contain her own giggle. Castle had a funny reaction when they were facing the head of the organization on the TV screen. He turned around expecting the guy to be right behind him and then realized he was on the monitor and rolled his eyes at himself in disgust. Kudos for bringing back the same Dr. Holloway as the psychiatrist and may I also say that I adored Ryan's polka dot tie!
Although I'm sure it's considered the 'B' story line, I thought the whole Alexis coming home thing was HUGE. I can see why Kate might think that she was the stumbling block for that happening and I'm sooooooo proud of her for requesting the meet with Alexis and asking her directly. Oh, how far you've come Kate Beckett!!! Both Stana and Molly were wonderful in that scene. I'm glad that the issue was pride and not Kate, as I have no desire to see an arc about competing for Castle's love. I thought Kate was very perceptive in telling Alexis that she's actually just punishing herself over this and I like that she had the empathy because she'd been there herself. Even though it was just a touch on the shoulder as Kate left, I was pleased to have some kind of physical moment between them.
The final scene was another gem! Kate just exudes confidence as she teases Castle about taking 3 times to get it right and has fun messing with him about drugging him in his sleep. Nathan and Molly nailed the sweet reunion at the door. Very simple dialogue and their faces and the hug said all there was that needed to be said. I do believe Nathan's eyes were glistening and the "Thanks" that Alexis mouthed to Kate was heart melting. This is the first time that we've truly had a sense of them being a family this season! I have to admit that I'm asking myself if Alexis should have apologized to Castle. On one hand, I sure think she treated him badly and should own her behavior so to speak. On the other hand, because she said it to Kate, we know she's remorseful and we also know that Castle is not the kind of guy to hold a grudge or expect her to grovel at his feet. He's thrilled to have his daughter back in his life and that's more than enough for him. I guess I'm not disappointed with the way it all played out but I also would have found a great deal of satisfaction in Alexis telling Castle that she regretted her actions.
Another delightful episode IMO but, of course, I'll have to watch a few more times to be sure. sheepish
What a way to start the day for CASKETT and Alexis—and for us—to start the show!!! CASKETT wake up to coffee made by elves/Alexis!!! Sleepy CASKETT…Rick in another, V-necked tee with sleep pants and Kate in sleepwear and a robe, make their way into the kitchen to discover coffee and Alexis and to a day “Kate-described as “kick-started.” Alexis, who has stayed over due to a late tutoring session and no train to her place, has an early class; CASKETT has an early murder!!!
As always, Stana and Nathan are perfection—every expression and nuance—every gesture and tone—every dialogue line and wardrobe, often synchronized!!!
Penny JOHNSON JERALD, Tamala JONES, John HEURTAS, and Seamus DEVER and Phil LaMARR as Dr. HOLLOWELL perfectly fulfill their roles, as do the guests actors involved as suspects, perpetrator, shady contributors, and/or repetitive confessors/ers to the murder which they did not commit!!!
Stana/Kate and Molly/Alexis deliver beautifully at their restaurant conversation, where Kate explains “the love haze” and avoiding her own stubborn failure to accept help from those who are so lovingly ready to give it—and with their loft relief and happiness as Alexis asks to return and is welcomed home!!! Alexis thanks Kate, who is as joyous as father and daughter that Alexis realizes that it is okay to ask the right person for help, as Kate subtly and with feeling from her own experiences had shared and as Rick had also expressed!!!
Stana/Kate so perfectly and tellingly reveals that she fears being the reason that Alexis hesitates to return home and can express this to Alexis, along with her declarations that she doesn’t interfere between father and daughter and that she never wants Alexis to feel unwelcome in her own home!!! Kate’s love for both Alexis and Rick continues to shine; as does Alexis’ love for her dad and her devotion and gratitude as she speaks with and then, at the loft, offers her appreciation to Kate!!! Nathan/Rick, too, continues his RHD/Ruggedly Handsome Dad perfection—he is concerned for Alexis; would help with Alexis’ lease; has feared for her safety, as Alexis resides alone in her now, Pi-less apartment; and is overjoyed that she can ask to return home!!!
How solicitous, loving, supportive, and witty are CASKETT!!! Music, lighting, wardrobe and makeup, editing, sets, and cinematography compliment, throughout the episode, wonderful writing, direction, production, and acting--all delivered by cast, crew, and team!!! Expressions and lines to remember abound!!!
“Eleven seconds to a confession; that’s got to be your personal best.”
“Not so boring after all”!!!
Rick confesses to being “theory-less;” while Kate can conceal neither her laughter nor her love!!!
“You should know that you are engaged to a genius.”
“Yes, a genius at annoying me.”
“So, I’m Justin; and you’re one of the several people who shot me.”
“I’m starting to feel the urge.”
Kate is not in the mood for Rick’s alternate universe theory; but she finds it cute, when he gets so excited!!!
Another potential perp is ready to confess. Our DD’s reactions vary!!! Rick: “This is now officially outstanding.” Kate – “Yea, take a number.”
If Kate has to hear the confession again, she will shoot someone.
Rick pulls out chair for Kate at precinct and offers her “something to help your forget” before their loft bedtime.
Kate continues: “It’s okay, CASTLE; you know I like the weird ones.” “How do you know what I do to you when you are sleeping?”
Nathanfan, I love how you caught Kate's touching Alexis' shoulder--will enjoy re-watching for that--and of course, will savor re-watching!!!
I am sure she said "Love you" in a soft tone. I watched that scene about 4 times to make sure she actually said it. Anxious to see if anyone else picked up on that or is it just my imagination.
I have read the reviews this morning and also watched the vital scenes by Becklebee. But I sure want to see the whole episode. What is the best way? If I buy itunes, does it stream only to my computer? Is there any way to get it on my tv? I have dish network and do have video on demand but don't think it includes shows like this. I know I sound stupid here but are those free links that ask for your credit card on the up and up?
Here is the name of the place:
This is the interior with the bar.
Excellent episode.Overall a feel good episode for me. Caskett right where they need to be. Beckett finding her place in the family as lover, partner confidant and yes just a little bit of a Mom.
Giving Alexis the right advice at the right time. Rick opening up to Kate and making her feel a part of his family and his life just as she lets him be a huge part of hers.
I couldn't be happier the way the things are going for Rick and Kate on a personal level. However...next weeks trailer scares me for them in their professional life. At some point they will have to face the added mortality associated with what they do!
Great case! Beckett/Alexis moment!!! Okay, so we saw them embrace before but this was girl time and we got to hear what they were saying. Check that off my Wish List!
Love the loft. I know it's weird to hear this from a guy but I love the loft and this room and the fireplace and NO TV!!!
