I rarely care about the cases of the week anyway. I watch for the characters and their interactions. The running theme of having your personal life on Page 6 was a good one and certainly something that Castle and Kate had to come to terms with. I loved Kate's confidence in the opening scene, where she felt comfortable needling Castle because there was no doubt in her mind that it was just gossip. Ryan and Espo got in some funny digs and the ending, with Kate being the one to set the newspaper straight, was perfect. One more hurdle conquered. I also loved the way Kate initiated the physical contact in the opening and closing scenes. Curse Pi for once again interrupting by being at the door though!
I was also happy to see a return of the Alexis that I've always liked and admired. Now I'm curious if we'll see more direct talk of the breakup or if it will just be mentioned in passing and tonight's inference will be all we get. I guess I'm good either way.
That's really all I have from this one. I'll watch it again tomorrow and add more if something hits me differently.
I enjoyed LIMELIGHT, 6x13, a warm, witty, fun, relationship-exploring and developing episode!!! Love confident, Rick-challenging, playful, affectionate Kate in her sleep shirt and blue/gray socks and t-shirted Rick calmly assuring Kate about what actually happened, about which Kate actually needs no reassurance!!! Even Kate’s dad has questions about press commentary; and Kate declares that Aunt Teresa must take down her inaccurate, Facebook page entry?! Happy, proud, and secure engaged Kate eventually announces her and Rick’s engagement—after all, he is “somewhat” famous and if the press writes about them, she’d like it to be the truth and “about us”—although no space wedding, “Babe”!!!
How amusing that Mandy and RYPOSITO don’t comprehend Rick and his fame—or tease him about it!!! Also heartwarming are RYAN and ESPO lovingly teasing Kate about the “limelight” in which she and Rick find themselves!!! Of course, it’s “perfectionist, too,” Pi, at the loft door at 6:45 AM, requesting his Mr. C.-written grant recommendation, which CASTLE has agreed to write, per Alexis’ request!!!
Love everyone at the precinct’s support and empathy for Mandy—including CASTLE and Alexis, who vents to Mandy, as well as helping Mandy to have a chance for a stable, happy relationship with Zach BENTON, well played by Brad BENEDICT!!! Alexis absorbs advice from not totally hot mess, and quite self- aware Mandy, who advises being true to oneself and leaving situations not good for you!!! I chuckled at Mandy’s comment about Alexis’ “Grandma's scarf?!!”
Kudos to CASTLE regulars, Stana, Nathan, Molly, Jon, Seamus, Tamala, and Penny—all spot on—as always—to guest stars, Alexandra CHANDO as Mandy; Bug HALL as Mandy’s troubled, troubling boyfriend, Jesse JONES, and to the CASTLE LIMELIGHT writer, Rob HANNING; director, Bill ROE; cast; crew; and Andrew W. MARLOWE and team!!! It could be time to say, “Good bye,” to Pi, whom I have found wonderfully played—what a parent’s nightmare!!!—by Myko OLIVIER!!!
I always appreciate sets and costumes as part of CASTLE drama and fun and character and plot development—thank you, Alfred and Luke and teams!!! Again, in LIMELIGHT, how perfectly were all characters dressed—up and down—regulars and guests!!! Of course, Kate, as always, rocks everything, and had reason to check out Rick, including in his suit and red shirt; GATES’ business attire is perfect, as are RYAN and ESPO, casually costumed and/or wearing vests/suits!!!
As always, re-watching CASTLE episodes leads to my increased appreciation and added enjoyment of our "great love story" and procedural!!! This week, editing my reactions and appreciated additions followed!!!
I really liked that they used Mandy's over-the-top fame to remind us that Castle is somewhat famous. Authors typically aren't - it's not like you find Patterson or Grishom in the gossip column - but Gina had cultivated a bad boy/ most eligible bachelor image to boost sales... which probably didn't matter much outside of NYC's socialite circuit. But that image made him more public than other authors.
I really enjoyed how they juxtaposed Mandy against Alexis, the stalker against fan-girl Alexis, Zack & Jason(?) against Pi, Castle against Mandy's mom, & Gina against Kate.
Mandy wanted to be normal and have the right guy and get out of the public train wreck, while Alexis has a good guy but knows he's not right for her & wants out of her private train wreck. Neither felt like they could talk to their parents about it, for completely opposite reasons. Alexis is normal despite being rich and has enough good sense to make sound decisions even if they're a little late, as well as people who want her to make the best choices for her life; while Mandy has good sense but no support for choosing what's right, people who are supposed to help her actually sabotage her, and has been conditioned to mock normal despite how much she wants it. I loved how Mandy advised Alexis to show cleavage to get Sam's attention, but Alexis used her mind instead, providing Mandy an example of how to accomplish goals without degrading herself.
And I thought it was interesting how Alexis opened up to Mandy like they were old friends reunited... fans feel like know they celebs they love while we're total strangers to the celebs. Given the chance, most of us would try to be buddies with Nathan or Stana, while they'd probably be annoyed with having to indulge another fan. But I'm also pretty sure none of us would have freaky closet shrines and stalk either of them like the creepy guy who described the motorcycle in the alley. Clearly the creeps aren't just tolerated - they're hated. It would not be fun to be famous & always have paparazzi in your face & nice fans acting like they know you & creepy crazy fans stalking you!
Then we have Zach the sweet Habitat for Humanity guy who saw Mandy for who she wanted to be, Jason who used her for money, and Pi who is somewhere in the middle: sweet & doing environmental work but still willing to mooch off "Mr. C." Alexis seeing the polar opposites of Mandy's men helped her see that good isn't good enough. She could do worse, but she could do better, too. And she wanted better for Mandy, too, and went to find Zach.
Wow, the parenting differences! Castle has always supported Alexis in everything and tried to counsel her to make wise choices. They disagreed on things from boys to college, but he never withdrew his love or support even when he didn't like her choices. Complete opposite of Mandy's mom who treated her child as a commodity to exploit. So sad! My 9 year old kid asked just a day or two ago how people like Miley Cyrus get so messed up. The price of fame is too steep, and those poor kids can't handle it. I remember Will Smith giving an interview years ago & being asked how he stayed so normal. He answered, "I came home from receiving my first award," (I think it was a grammy) "and my mom told me to change clothes & do my laundry & even told Jazzy Jeff to help with chores. She didn't let us think more of ourselves than we should." Miley & Lindsey Lohan & the rest needed parents like Will Smith's mom!I really loved that Castle even had a parenting moment with Mandy, telling her not to hide from the fallout of the murder, to deal with it in a healthy way.
Finally, Kate versus Gina. Did anybody notice that Gina didn't deny the rumors that she & Castle were together? Surely she knows that he's with Kate. Gina wanted a perceived truth that sells. Kate wants truth, even if it's uncomfortable. I thought it was interesting that the paparazzi couldn't tell the difference between Castle's loving face & his staring-at-spinach-in-her-teeth face. He must not have ever looked at Gina too adoringly! They'll see a big difference with Kate, I'd imagine. I wonder if we'll get to see any p. 6 photos?
So, though I thought the case was predictable, I still really liked the episode. I think that the case was built around what they wanted us to learn about our characters.
Very enjoyable episode.
One thing that stands out right now that I have to say rocked my socks....NATHAN IN THAT BROWN LEATHER JACKET!
Yeah, I know there's more to it than that My favorite part, Kate's last lines about wanting the paper to have the truth "about us" and the loving look she gave him as she wrapped her arms around his neck.
There were moments that made me laugh out loud, and I pretty much figured out who the killer was in the beginning, but was made to doubt myself when they brought in the entertainment reporter. However I was vindicated in the end which only made my lovely bride throw a pillow at me, which answered one of those unanswered questions of my youth, "why do they call them throw pillows?"
Anyway I liked it, a lot.
What I did notice is that I have not seen him smiling at kate like he used to. I miss that

Seems to me what a lot of the griping about is just Rick letting Kate take the lead. And this isn't a soap or Greys or Good Wife or something like those where relationships are concerned; it may not be as serious as Law & Order but it is primarily a procedural.
As for Rick's minimal reaction in the opening scene - it was 6:45 AM and he seemed half asleep. And then Pi interrupted before he could really react.
