Tonight's episode promises to be very intriguing with the return of Castle's dad. I bet we'll have a lot to talk about afterwards!
Another great episode! I had some concerns about how Castle's dad would be portrayed in this episode, based on previous comments by James Brolin. Fortunately, he still came across as somebody we could root for.
So many great moments! Loved the whole date-planning discussion at the start, and Martha's advice to just go to city hall and get it done. And can we hope a September wedding date means a Season 7 wedding premiere?
I was hoping for something between Martha and Dad; I was happy to see their scene with the brief reminiscing of their night together.
Loved Castle telling Kate that she is his family! Definite "awwww" moment.
The end scene between Rick and Martha was also a touching moment, and then the shot of Dad looking up at the window. You could feel that tug there, that he wished at least in that moment that things could be different.
Just an awesome episode, and a great way to further the father storyline.
This has happened every time I've had my doubts about an episode. In every case, the Castle team comes through with flying colors and I should never doubt them! I confess that I had some concerns after reading that Brolin would only reprise his role if it showed his darker side. I wasn't thinking it had to be warm and fuzzy but I did still want to feel there was an emotional connection. Tonight's episode left no doubt about that. I really enjoyed the way it was written. There was no doubt that Dad has chosen a life where relationships are not an option and that he's very good at what he does, but that doesn't mean he doesn't have some moments of regret as shown in the closing shot. I liked that Castle got a few jabs in when they first met at the park bench, showing the frustration he felt as he tried to reconcile the concept of this cold man being his dad. I thought that Castle actually described the situation well in saying that he wasn't family even though he's his dad.
I ended up being very satisfied, all in all. I was so glad that we got a scene with Martha and he seemed genuine as he remembered their special night. Later, when she hugged him, you could tell there was still some emotion but as she said, she came away with closure after all these years. The other aspect that was totally satisfying is that Kate was not kept from knowing about everything. The situation had put Castle in a very awkward position because he couldn't say anything to Kate in the early going and she was definitely suspicious. I was holding my breath when Castle greeted her at the loft and I didn't know if he'd try to hide what was going on or reveal it to her. I was so glad when he took her into the room. I also like the fact that Dad now has a healthy respect for Kate and she has a complete understanding of what Castle is dealing with when it comes to his dad.
As usual, the Castle team found ways to inject a bit of humor into a more dramatic episode. Kate's crack about Sarah Grace looking like Espo was priceless and I also got quite a chuckle out of Castle and Martha doing surgery on Dad. Then there was the scene with Tory, the tech girl and Castle acting like he knew what was going on when he didn't have a clue.
And there was a healthy dose of Casketty goodness tonight too. They were a typical 'power couple' trying to find a wedding date that worked for both of them and Martha was great with her recommendation to elope. Castle's reaction to Kate wanting to be "flexible" and her butt grab of him earlier, were both nice indications of their smoldering attraction to each other that we rarely see. Loved Castle's decisive commitment to a September wedding and Kate's obvious excitement! Can we start counting down now to the season 7 premier? That would be my guess now. That was a great scene, as was the final one with Castle and Martha. Once again she tells Castle that he's been the best gift in her life and it was a beautiful moment.
Can't wait to watch it again!
DEEP COVER, 6X12—what a fantastic, suspenseful, character and story developing, warm, and funny episode!!! Kudos, writing/directing duo, Terrence Paul WINTER and Tom WRIGHT—and entire CASTLE team!!! Kate’s and Rick’s wedding planning and date talk, joy, affection, and devotion, including Kate’s grabbing Rick’s bum and the sexual innuendo re: her flexibility and legs!!! Loved Martha’s “unsolicited advice,” to just get married at City Hall!!! How fun Kate’s delight in Sarah Grace’s photo and in teasing RYAN that the baby looks like ESPO!!! Kate, Rick wedding date talk, continuing on the way to the crime scene; Martha’s “unsolicited advice;” Ass grab; sexual innuendo with flexibility and Kate’s legs discussed; Kate admiring RYAN’S photos of Sarah Grace and teasing that she resembles ESPO
Despite Rick’s father’s arrogance and Rick’s/Nathan’s and Kate’s/Stana’s so telling facial expressions and reactions, as they processed what had happened, CROSS/HUNT still left me feeling that he knew that his choices had left him without a family he, at least at times, regretted not being able to join!!! Brava, Kate, for recognizing him from the sketches at the time of Alexis’ kidnapping!!! I had wrongly presumed that Rick had long ago told Kate what had happened then?!
Susan SULLIVAN/Martha was also perfection, as she dismissed Rick’s father’s promises, his recalling her piano playing—while helping Rick to take care of the wounded CROSS!!! Martha wisely advised Rick that he should lean on the people whom he knew he could trust and to tell Katherine what has transpired!!! Martha admonished HUNT/CROSS not to let anything happen to Richard and Katherine!!! Awesome, too, Martha's telling Rick that he, Kiddo, is his father's greatest gift to her--and that HUNT/CROSS, too, has provided closure!!!
Believably, Kate tells Rick: “He’s not your father. He made that decision long ago;” but she and Rick agree to assist CROSS with his plan to achieve justice!!! CROSS saves Rick but vanishes in true CIA/former CIA operative fashion with the culprit’s body!!! What a perfect culmination, as Rick declares to Kate: “I keep making the mistake of thinking that he’s (Rick’s father) family. He’s not; you are.”
How touching, heart-melting, and fun Rick’s and Kate’s exchanges: "Beckett, I promise you. There is a perfect date for our perfect wedding, and we’ll find it." “Trust me.” “I dooooooo.” “Oh, wedding humor.” Likewise, the conclusion: “We’re getting married in September. It won’t be too hot; it won’t be too cold. It’s in the Goldilocks zone; it’ll be perfect.” “But, Castle, what about your book tour?!” “Screw it.” Oh, happy day—now and then—and oh, happy kiss, Rick’s and oh, glowing, smiling, happy dance—Kate’s!!!
Another great episode

Wonderful episode! So many great moments and I loved when he said to Kate, 'Meet your future father-in-law' and her reaction!!! Jaw drop.Screw it !!! September !!!!!!!
Really enjoyed this episode as it brings more backstory forward and brings our DD closer to where I want them to be.
I always go to bed and then think about other things I wanted to mention about the episode. Two more things this morning!
When Kate appeared in the loft as Castle was doing surgery on his dad, it confirmed that she has her own key. I've presumed that but it still would have been fun to actually see Castle giving it to her for the first time.
I don't know if 'physical comedy' is the right term for it, but the Castle team does such a great job of including wordless bits that just crack me up. Last night, I loved Martha wiping Castle's brow as he did surgery and that scene at the carnival when Espo shows up with a plate of pastry after questioning the vendor. Ryan felt free to help himself to some too.
I loved that he was eating funnel cake. Should have had a little powdered sugar on his chin. I also love how free with each other Castle and Beckett are this year. It's so cool to see them talking about personal things walking into a crime scene. Also last night put a stop to the theory that Castle was dragging his feet about getting married. They were so cute standing at the counter going through their schedules to pick a "perfect date" for their "perfect wedding". That comment just tipped me off that the wedding is going to be anything but. I hope that the writers make it funny and heartwarming, not angsy.

The far along in the series life, the cases are predictable, the story beats repetitive, but the characters are still growing and on this episode I really got a strong positive vibe from the actors. It wouldn't surprise me to find out they had fun on set for this one. And September wedding date! Perfect.
Though I'm preparing now for Season 6 to end with the mother of all cliff hangers.

I loved the drama they created when Rick pulled the pliers out of that nasty gunshot wound and came up empty. I think America cringed a little. But that second time in, wow....I could feel the pain.
And as much as Kate's jaw dropped when she learned of her future father in law, Castle's expression was priceless as Dad finished the job he set out to do. When that gun went off, I thought Castle was going to jump out of his pants. Very sobering to watch Dad work. So class, today young Richard has brought his father in to tell us what he does for a living. " I dispose of Trash".....OMG.
What a great show.

FREAKING HOT SIZZLING CHEMISTRY! ELECTRIFYING!
OH my gawd, this show is killing me.
Moonlighting curse? What's that?
Echoing everyone's thoughts here!
Agree TVAnne .... one killer of a cliff-hanger, indeed! Bring it! But not yet! It's only January!
This show gets better and better and better! Like that was even possible!
Nobody should be surprised that Castle has won the PCA for the best crime drama three years in a row.
They'll win next year, too. Bet on it!
Did anyone but me love Kate's coat this week? I want that coat. Of course, she rocks it, but I would still like to give it a try.
Gee, maybe this was a post for Java's fashion thread....
The look on Becket's face and her reaction to Rick setting a wedding date was absolutely priceless. It show an excitement about their relationship that was somewhat missing up till now.
FYI: Put me in the NO section on the dress. Can we say "Hideous" !!! Although Stana can actually make anything look good. I pray that she does not wear that particular dress.

Hey everyone! I know that I have MIA for awhile. I been doing more real world then virtual world these days. Glad that everyone is doing great.I tell you being spree is tuff and I dont regret my decision however my timing couldnt have been worse lol. I pick the season that has had me in knots all year lol. I am all about the serious ones and the on the seat of your pants type of episodes but they have really stepped up there game on the heart attacks I have had since the premiere. I had some insight in the beginning about the first few episodes. During the winter hiatus I was completely clueless as to what the second half of the season was going to do. I went into the mid premiere thinking I was going to see a fun, happy, banterish typical episode only to have my boys almost burned alive in a warehouse. I was not prepare for that at all. I knew of course they would not die but in the moment of the episode I literally went green. After Jenny and Ryan said there goodbyes I was almost a goner. I about thru up all over my chair lol. It was the worse feeling of my tv life experience. I loved the episode but man they had me in that one. I thought to myself if they die, I am done lol for split second it crossed my mind.
Now for the topic of this thread.
I truly enjoyed this episode. We got to see Caskett talk about there wedding date, the smack on the butt had me rolling in the floor. Calling him babe last episode and smacking his behind in this one its to much lol. Its all sweet and all nothing u would expect from Beckett but hey I like surprises. I still see her as the girl who was caught reading the sex chapter in the bathroom when Castle caught her. She was about to crawl inside that toilet from embarrassment now she is smacking his butt. A total turn around from S2..
Everyone is giddy over them setting a month I am to, i wished it could be done on my birthday but its to early for the premiere. I am happy and excited about September and I am already seeing fan pics of them on twitter. I think its cool and all that everyone is excited i get it. In my opinion and its just me its going wayyyy to fast. I am still in the honeymoon phase of there relationship and I glad he proposed and I am glad they are where they at now. I just want to take my time and enjoy their engagement a little longer before I see them in their wedding photos. I want to watch the rest of this season and enjoy them planning for it but I am not ready for the wedding yet. I cant stop the fan pics and I want people to have fun of course, I just want to wait a while longer and enjoy the moment. I have a feeling I am going to see her in a wedding gown from now til Sept. I even have this gut feeling I will see her barefoot and pregnant in a wedding gown before its over with lol.
Its all good tho, everyone has their on way of fangirling I don't judge. This JMHO talking.
I enjoyed the dad, They picked the best guy to play the dad if you look at him some he almost favors Nathan somewhat. I almost thought that when Kate was looking at him in that first meeting that she suspected him being Castle's dad. Like she knew it in her heart that his man fathered her future husband.
Nathan played it very well, trying to keep his emotions about his father and keeping a level head around Kate and the boys. I know he would not have kept it from her if his dad hadn't told him to.
I am glad he and Martha reunited, I am now a shipper. I hope he gets out and can have some kind of relationship with her. I wont put any hopes on it now tho.
I loved the ending where Castle told Kate that his dad is not family, that she is. Then hes set a month for them to wed. She was giddy over it I love that..
Great episode! Great episode last weeek.. Lord only knows what I am in from now until finale. This season may indeed put me in the ground.. I telling you lol.

Hey! Is anyone else wondering when we're going to get some further development on Espositos love life? We all know he and Lanie are on a booty call basis, but there is something with that computer expert lady... (Does she have a name? They made it really obvious in this episode. Well as obvious as they can make it without beating us over the head.
Anyway, I'm off to give this topic it's own discussion!
Bren, I think her name is Tori (Tory).
Thanks. I just spotted that. the12th.proboards.com/thread/7065/espositos-love-life
