Since Geezer got it started, I'll finish. It's season 3, episode 21, The Dead Pool. The new guy is Castle's mentee, Alex Conrad. Castle was jealous of Alex spending time with Beckett so he invited him to the poker game for some hazing. The murderer turned out to be a young pro swimmer named "Rocket" Rob Tredwyck. I LOVED the scene near the end at the precinct where Castle admits to Kate that he's jealous because it was so rare for them to be so honest with each other at that point. BEST of all, was Kate's response - her first "Always."

I remember Rob Bowman commenting when I asked when the next poker game would happen that they couldn't do the poker games anymore because Stephen was the only author who could act. Also he is the one who called up his writing buddies to come and play cards. They got around this as Castles mentee was a real actor. It was a nice tribute to Stephen who had a great impact on this show.
