Oh Baby! I feel a wave of warm fuzzies approaching and I can't wait to hear what everyone has to say about tonight's show. Please share!
This was a great episode! Had everything....Caskett goodness, some insight into the other characters, a really good case (I totally had no clue where it was going).
It was fun to see how everybody reacted to the baby. Loved how Lanie explained the forensic evidence in a sing-song baby talk manner. Poor Ryan...he's really nervous now about his impending fatherhood. I liked the scene between Ryan and Espo when Espo told Ryan he's already a good dad because he cares. Can't wait to see how Uncle Javi will be with Ryan's baby.
I liked the conversations that Rick and Kate had about having babies and that there was no hesitation or question by either of them that they will have their own kids someday. And loved Alexis' comment about her kids growing up with theirs....hilarious.
All in all, another fantastic episode.
Oh, so good for the heart! This is the Castle I love, that makes me want to watch over and over again, that let's every cast member have their moment, that provides the most satisfying entertainment that TV can provide.
It was a great case with the question of Cosmo's presence always hanging out there. Loved Castle breaking the case as he watched the lottery drawing and mystifying everyone as he called off the winning numbers. Another thing I've noticed this season but was particularly strong tonight, is the way Ryan and Espo are making their own decisions about investigating and are not waiting for Kate to give them direction. It's been a very natural maturation and I find it very satisfying. I'm left with a great sense of team.
I have to be honest and admit that I thought it was pretty hokey that Castle and his family dressed up for Thanksgiving, but I believed it in spite of that. I guess there isn't much that would be beyond belief when it comes to Castle and Martha! What a great way to follow up Castle's joke on Kate with her being prepared to get in the last word as she thrust the pilgrim costume at him. Loved her high five with Martha! She's definitely going to give that family a run for their money.
Loved the scene with Lanie sharing evidence as she talked to Cosmo, and it was nice to see Captain Gates get in some baby time too. What a touching moment when Espo told Ryan he'd be a good dad and mentioned his own lack of one. The whole running gag with Ryan being prepared (or not) was fun, as was the need to win the lottery to finance a child in NYC. It was really great use of the supporting cast tonight.
I'm thrilled that Kate and Castle are on the same page about having a child together!!!!!!!!!!! It was handled so beautifully with Kate keeping the perspective that timing would be a factor and that she'd be ready when that time came. Castle having his RHD and being a baby whisperer was a hoot and yet, there were times when he needed Kate's support. They were a great team and one of my FAVORITE moments was in the dumpster when Kate assured Castle that there was no way she would have him raise their child alone. That one produced a tear or two!
All that being said though - the thing I think I'll dream about tonight is Nathan saying, "What do you say, Beckett? Wanna have a baby?" SWOONING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I cheered a little when we finally got a little insight to Rick's failed marriage to Meredith. Working or not, she was never around and did not help raise the child. That told me all I needed to know about Meredith. She is a liar, and now we are getting insight. I hope Kate can read between the lines. This was a bit of a concern for Rick..,He did not want to raise a child alone. You could see the delight and feel the pride in his voice, but you could also feel the hurt and lonliness, not only for Alexis, but for himself as well. I am sure, that when Kate took the job in DC, in the back of his mind was the fact that she would never be around or worse. And that meant Rick would be stuck with raising their children. Now we all know that the fear was justified cause Meredith, like Kate, would never have been around, and whereas Meredith cheated and left, Kate would be tied to the job but also could get killed in the line of duty. Then where would Rick be? So that epic scene in the dumster, rummaging through garbage to get to the truth was so perfect. It was Rick coming over to her side to explain the way he was feeling and then Kate reassuring him that this was going to happen and she was all in. Perfect scene.
There was a moment of sweet release for Kate in the baby Cosmo scene at the loft. The beginning of the scene has Rick with the child, clearly frustrated and clearly humbled. The self proclaimed "Ruggedly Handsome Dad" and "Child Whisperer" had lost his touch. "This is not fun" he says and Kate begins to understand that maybe it takes two to make this work. She reads, she improvises with the bouncing ball, she is a bit stand offish, but still she is the soon to be wife, who works together with her man, to change the diaper and the get the one piece on little Cosmo.
Then it happens. That sweet moment of bliss when she realizes just how important it is to cuddle and talk funny and just hug and unconditionally love. She needed to know that the world is soft and cuddly and there are times when you have to come down to the child's level. Just like that funny guy Rick. You see the way she holds the baby, and the way Stana just changes everything about herself. Brilliantly changes the face. Did it look like the Beckett we know? Not a chance. She had transformed into a loving mother figure. She whispers to Cosmo, "Uncle Rick is funny". in a tone and volume reserved for the sweet love of a child and then she tells him that he is funny too...truly, this was looped in the studio, but this sounded so perfect, it gave me goosebumps. She had transformed. The look, the feel, the smile, the hugging and then that look on Castle's face, like "who are you" and she ways "what", holding and cooing with Cosmo. That left no doubt that she was smitten. This was another question answered and to her surprise, she was completely in the moment, because that's what life is, a series of "moments". Now Cosmo, or Benny, will never remember it, but Kate will. She knew then that Rick was holding back something and it would come out at the dumpster. But for me, the revelation of being so lost into Cosmo, for that moment, was one of Stana's finest hours. She was someone else there. Softer, cuter, hell..... Glowing. She was amazing.
Alexis and Marha came up Aces as always, and I felt it symbolic that Alexis brought up Bennie, again, another sign how rapidly she is turning into a grown woman. It scares dad, but he is getting better. And the better he gets, the more in love with Beckett he becomes. He has been the strong one throughout the fall, and now, he is letting kate take the reigns a little. They are getting there.
How great was it in the final scene when Kate becomes the court jestor? She takes a punch to give a punch, and a very telling "High Five" in your face hand slap to Martha. She is telling the world, I am one of the girls now and Rick, you better be on your "A " game with me cause I kinda see right through you now Pilgram. Loved it. I wonder if Jim came in dressed in costume. But think about this as I get out of here. Castle is living this fantasy all night with a hot Indian Maiden and a Pilgrim.
How could he get through the night? How could she do that to him.....certainly to embarrass and humble, but lets face ti folks, there is a playfulness to Beckett that I love and now it has emerged from the bedroom to play havoc on Rick in public. Nice. Great Episode...one to watch over and over and over.......
And Oh Yeah, how does Castle come up with things to solve the cases. He is astounding.
A "feel good" episode supremo!!!!! There was just so much to love about this ep...and we got to see ALL the characters for at least a little "cameo" of baby-centered love....Just a few thoughts, as I know you guys will have more in-depth insight to offer ....
Lanie was fabulous to watch with the baby and her baby talk/doc talk mix of conversation style was a hoot! And, my, did she look hot in that red top!
Loved Espo's comment, after watching everyone fall all over themselves oohing and aahing about the baby and holding him...."I don't want to hold the baby!!!!"
Kate's attempt to hide her amusement after the baby spits up on Rick....and Kate's foiled attempts to lay the baby down somewhere with Rick's admonitions...not on the rug, not on that chair...finally ok'ing the "nasty blanket".....so funny.
Loved the "operating room" diaper change with its music, and then, as Kate took the baby and started bonding with little Cosmo the music changed to a variation of the Always theme....MELT!.....We've all said it before, but I never tire of looking at Kate/Stana's face and beautiful smile which just lights up her face ... as kman said, she was transformed into a loving mother figure.
Kate's "I thought you were the baby whisperer?!!!" and Rick's..."I am....there's something wrong with this baby!" after he can't get him to stop crying.
The scene of Kate and Rick sprawled awkwardly on and off the couch....the elevator scene.
And the dumpster dive conversation....revealing in many ways and I happen to love blue so the hues of Rick's and Kate's clothing, and their beautiful smiles, especially Kate, were such a delight...and yes, nathanfan1, it produced a few tears for me, too.
THE GOOD THE BAD AND THE BABY 6X10, is, IMHO, a superb conclusion to CASTLE, Season 6, 2013!!! We’re given a good, complicated mystery—with heart-felt aspects and fun, frolic with the entire cast involved in scenes which reveal their crime-solving skills, their feelings on and levels of expertise or lack of same for and with babies—and some heart-melting revelations about their pasts and glimpses into their futures!!! Kudos, writer, Terri Edda MILLER and director, John TERLESKY; actors, including our DD, Stana/Kate and Nathan/Rick—every single cast member was brilliant, as were guest cast and Cosmo/Benny played by quads!!! Again, all cast, crew, and team deserve and won our appreciation and delight—music, lighting, makeup, set design, editing, cinematography—all spot on—as were everyone’s wardrobes—and yes, Luke, indeed, Benny’s/Cosmo’s attire, too!!!
CASKETT are so happy and natural, simply and happily planning and shopping for their Thanksgiving meal with their Martha-happily-proclaimed growing family!!! Besides Kate’s and Rick’s contributions and Martha’s possibly edible (“I heard that!”) food, Alexis, Jim BECKETT, and even Pi will bring specialties, Pi’s notably involving cranberries!!!
Watching Kate and Rick watch one another, learning, teaming, caring is awesome throughout the episode, including Kate’s smiling and rolling her eyes as, out the door to investigate Cameron’s murder, Rick cannot help but weigh in with his T.S. ELLIOTT Murder in the Cathedral joke!!!
So much joy, concern, discovery ensue: Rick and Lanie can’t keep their hands off of the baby; Kate’s hesitancy, trepidation, and growing confidence as her RHD left with a Uniform to purchase baby items, many, many, many baby items!!! Yes, Kate’s getting a clear and frightening visual as to what her future will look like!!!
NO, BECKETT’S not a baby person; she doesn’t see the appeal, long to hold them or to nibble their toes; but she hates neither rainbows nor babies. CASTLE does not know this about her; but Kate does assure him that it will be different when the time is right and they have their own baby!!! "I’m sure I’ll feel differently once we have one of our own.” CASTLE: “Will you?! WILL YOU?!”
How witty and warm the exchange about where babies come from—no, Rick, of course, holding the baby; Kate would rather figure out where he came from—yes, she knows where babies come from—but needs to determine where this baby came from and why!!! Rick can’t believe that Kate, like everyone, doesn’t want to hold the baby, as everyone wants to hold the baby. Well, this is not the case for ESPO: “I don’t want to hold that baby.”
Such CASKETT progress!!! Stana and Nathan nail every nuance and layer!!! Rick may question how she can be logical in the face of this baby’s face; and Kate can admit that she is not holding the baby, not because of fear of attachment and having to let him go—but because of lack of experience and comfort level!!!
When Rick doesn’t want Cosmo to go to strangers, BECKETT reminds CASTLE that that they were strangers until this morning!!! Social Services, at Thanksgiving cannot find a foster family Cosmo, as he would have named Alexis, had she been a boy, but can leave him in the care of the NYPD!!! Of course, Rick, carefully observing the love of his life, “What do you say, BECKETT, wanna have a baby?! Come on, it’ll be fun!!! Kate’s face reflects so many emotions!!!
Rick is challenged as baby whisperer—Cosmo was so good at the precinct; something’s wrong with this baby!!! But Kate is “a genius,” with her bouncy ball solution and is “so not laughing” as our DD tag team to change Cosmo/Benny and survive baby tears; spit up; diaper changing; and sleep deprivation!!! We celebrate with Kate, tentatively, then happily and more confidently holding the baby, "We’ll/you’ll go on the nasty blanket," and her “Uncle Rick’s pretty fun, isn’t he?! I think you’re pretty funny, too. What? Nothing,” and Rick’s “Victory, we did it,” and “Now, all we have to do is get him to sleep”!!! Even the baby is beaming, dare we think, albeit a tad knowingly!!! Rick eventually shares wisdom with the baby, as they observe an interrogation, “That’s grown up – lying. Get used to it!!! And, the baby high five--wow!!!
The exhausted baby wranglers are grateful to Martha, happily at ease feeding Cosmo/Benny, tolerantly and fondly noting that Richard and Katherine are up, and planning to share a day of babysitting with Alexis, once Alexis realizes what has happened; she has not simply been away too long!!! Alexis can even propose that her dad and Kate and her children might grow up together—ruining the scenario for her father!!!
Even coffee doesn’t help with CASKETT’S fatigue; RYAN describes them as looking as if they’ve been hit by the milk truck; and Rick admits that he had forgotten the overwhelming fatigue part of raising a baby, which will be RYAN’S future!!! Kate groans, “Oh no, we slept like babies, up every hour”!!!
RYAN’S worried he’s not ready for or able to comfort his soon due baby; he keeps trying to perfect his skills but finds that this baby is not at all like the practice doll. And, of the financial future?! Perhaps, Lottery tickets can help with expenses and education!!! Despite RYAN’S revelation that his initial, on-the-job learning, post-police academy training, did not go well, he clearly became a most effective cop!!! ESPO, catching suspect WOLFINSKY on his own, assures RYAN that because he cares, RYAN is already one hundred percent better than the dad ESPO had!!!
We learn, too, watching Kate watch Lanie with the baby!!! Lanie’s relishes every chance to hold the baby and is delighted, calm, confident, and can even relate evidence details in a version of loving baby talk!!! That Captain GATES shares her skills and softness, as she, too, cuddles and coos to baby Cosmo/Benny!!!
In a poignant and precious—in the very best senses of the words, scene, Rick and Kate, dumpster diving together, emphasize their devotion to one another and their mutual future dreams of their own baby!!! Kate makes sure that Rick knows, “When the time comes, there is no way I’m going to let you take care of our baby on your own.” So very happily, they almost kiss, halted—predictably by RYAN with evidence to share!!! CASKETT even anticipate that perhaps in a few Thanksgiving, they will have some Bennys/ies of their own!!!
Rick has told Kate that there are so many, many things to learn about him before their marriage!!! She appears to have learned more that he might have thought about that “special to you” CASTLE, family tradition of wearing costumes. Kate is definitely a stunning Pocahontas and, as she figured that if this weren’t “a CASTLE family tradition, maybe, it should be,” BECKETT insists that CASTLE had better “put this on, Pilgrim.” Yea, high five to Martha!!!
On to CASTLE Season 6 2014!!! I can’t wait!!!
Just watched it a second time and I'm feeling warm and fuzzy all over! There were so many great scenes and great lines. What a pleasure!
I have to admit, I have been looking forward to this episode since the info on it had been made available. I knew it had the potential to be just oh so much fun to watch. It did not disappoint, I completely enjoyed it
It was fun not only to watch how Kate and Castle handled the baby and their discussions of children in the future but, fun to watch everyone else with the baby as well. Lanie's baby science talk was a hoot as was Alexis's comment later in the episode of "How long have I been gone?" Poor Ryan, a bundle of nerves, not being helped any by the little one not taking liking to him but, like Esposito noted, his concern ultimately proves he will be a good dad.
Overall, a very enjoyable episode which brought a bright smile to my face
I was expecting a lot of discussion between Kate & Rick about whether they wanted kids, but was pleasantly surprised that it seems they'd already had that discussion and they're both on the sane page. Whether they write a pregnancy into the show or not I assume will depend on how long the show lasts (or if real life intervenes, though that doesn't seem to be a concern now). In the mean time Uncle Rick & Aunt Kate can have some practice with Ryan's baby, maybe godparents?
Also glad that Alexis in OK with the idea of much younger half siblings. Though I do hope she waits until she's finished with grad school to have her own.
Did anyone follow Terri Monday night? I went to bed before she posted these but found them on her twitter account.

@nathanfillion really was a baby whisperer in this episode. The babies loved him
Terri Edda Miller @terriedda 26 Nov
When we were shooting, @nathanfillion gave Beckett sparkle eyes when he said what he said…. Melty.
I believe this was the scene when he said Wanna have a baby?
Terri Edda Miller @terriedda 26 Nov
That was my favorite scene… the one in the loft with the baby and then the one afterwards.

RT @jfigskate: @terriedda Love the baby's reactions. Was hard working with the babies? #Castle Babies have very specific rules. Quadruplets

“@terriedda: @stana_Katic: Hi Stana! You were magnificent in this episode. Thank you.” X It was a fun one!
This episode was so good for me. Having a rough time lately. 2 weeks ago Friday my beautiful daughter was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. She was having surgery to remove fibroids and found that instead. It was really rough. But God gave us a miracle last week. All tests showed it to be only Stage 2 (meaning no spread to lymph nodes or surrounding organs) even though the tumor was grapefruit size. Because it was an aggressive cell type, she will still undergo aggressive chemo treatment. I know a lot of you believe in prayer and we will appreciate all we can get. She has her CAT scan today and pray nothing else shows up.
Catluver, so sorry to hear about your daughter but will definitely keep your family in my prayers. I have a friend who just went through the exact same thing and after a year of aggressive therapy, was declared cancer free. I pray the same will be true for your daughter.

Question....since Ryan said it's another month till his baby is born, that means there'll be a new little Ryan when we catch back up with our friends at the 12th in January. Suppose we'll get to go gaga over another little baby at some point? I hope, I hope....Nov 27, 2013 14:18:10 GMT -5 @kastlefan301 said:
I just love this episode. An instant favorite. I want to watch it over and over. So cute, so wonderful to see how everyone is just a big family. I just love the way Kate just belongs in Castle's place, she looks like she has always been there. Case in point, I noticed in the changing scene she was wearing slippers. Awesome. Also noticed a nice subtlety in that scene too. Her shirt was loose and flowing and as she moved around that looseness and the way the fabric moved almost suggested a slight tummy, as if three months prior she gave birth and still has a bit of baby tummy. At least that's what I thought of it...nice foreshadow to when we would have little Castles being changed. Nov 27, 2013 14:12:42 GMT -5 @kastlefan301 said:

I was kinda hoping we would have an episode for the birth. I really felt like that would be a huge part of Marlowe's story telling. After all, we saw the engagement, the wedding, so I hope the birth of the first Ryan is part of the episode plans. I just think of all the possibilities for that particular show. I get the feeling that in the second half, we will get into some of the other character's lives as we move closer to a wedding date. This show is evolving so rapidly now, it would be unfair to leave them all behind. And I think we are seeing the evolution of everyone now. This show is getting so interesting. It touches everyone in different ways. I really want to see the little Ryan or Jenny have his or her moment and how it effects everyone.
Catlover, prayers and caring for your daughter, you, and your family!!!

Agreed! I want to see the birth too. I can see an amusing and chaotic kind of episode. Murder case going crazy for everyone and in the middle of it, Ryan gets "the call" or Jenny shows up in the early stages of labor at the precinct and tells Ryan it's time. Everyone goes nuts trying to help. In the end, the case is solved and little Kevin or Jenny has arrived and everyone oohs and ahhs and holds the baby.Nov 29, 2013 20:46:35 GMT -5 @kastlefan301 said:
You're seeing things just the way I am Kman. Just what had in mind. Total chaos, but Rick is the only one keeping it together with an amused almost smirking smile, but all the while completely focused, calm, understanding, guiding and directing cause he's been there before, supportive attitude...and just a little bit caught up in the hysteria because he's excited for his friend. I see him offering Kevin a bit of advice on the best ways to go things at the start and then suggesting advice as things go along. And thanks...I did have a nice Thanksgiving over at my mom's with her and my grandma with thoughts of my dad and stepmom at my other grandma's. Hope you had a good holiday with friends and family and lots of food. Looking forward to reading your thoughts on the new episodes in the new year.

But most importantly, as others here have said, I am sending you my thoughts and prayers for your daughter and all of your family. I hope all went well with the CAT scan and I'm sure the doctors will take good care of her. I'm glad you can see the miracle within it all, acknowledging that God had blessed her with the chance to beat this cancer before it progressed further. Keep the faith and stay strong, my friend, and we will all pray for you and your daughter that you will get through this experience together.

My daughter did not get to have her CAT scan. It had to be rescheduled for next week. She has not been feeling well, experiencing a burning and pain and it turned out to be an infection. She got medication and was feeling better by Friday when all the family was here for Thanksgiving. We had a good time together. My oldest grandson brought his huge dog with him again. He is really a sweet dog and is actually scared of my cats. But they did not know it and the orange tabby hid out upstairs and we couldn't find my black one for quite a while. Finally found her on top of my upright piano amid my music boxes. I will share a picture.
But I so appreciate your kind words and will covet your prayers. She is choosing the most aggressive chemo they have just because she said if it came back she would always wonder why she did not go for it. ( Not exactly her words) She was a medical technician and I told her she knew just enough to be dangerous. Lots of possible side effects so it may be rough for awhile.
Well, that post was really crazy looking. I don't know how or why that picture ended up where it did.
Also, I meant to say Queen, how much I really liked your review. I did read it the next morning and certainly appreciate everything you had to say about a wonderful heartwarming episode. It is so good to have a real winner like that to watch over and over during the holidays. I don't even remember if I commented on the page with the review. I've slept since then. LOL
