Dara RESNIK and Chad GOMEZ CREASEY did the CASTLE cast and team proud, as did Director Bill ROE!!! I loved the “parade” of suspects and welcomed more involvement from RYAN and ESPO, in terms of their banter about their relationships having male and female sides and RYAN’S sweater vest!!! Their partnership and the action scene with the car accident and the gun battle with the clown-clad thieves, as well as their interrogating, with GATES’ approval, the suspects—exciting and wonderfully carried out, too!!! How marvelous to have GATES return, take charge of the precinct, work with RYAN and ESPO, as well as with Kate and Rick, Mr. CASTLE, as only Sir can say—or communicate with her look(s)!!! I'm always thrilled when Lanie is part of an epi--I'd always be thrilled to have her appear more often!!!
How fun to witness, to hear—and to realize the relationship growth for Kate and Rick—from that ready to POUNCE, Linus; Kate’s speaking of wanting to relax, not be on alert, “when I come home…”!!! The repartee continued: Rick defends his identity, Linus as totem, and takes from victim, relationship specialist, Alice CLARK, that, males, by inviting females into their territories, honor females!!! Kate’s reply: "And, if you want to be invited into my territory again you may want to rethink that." Rick neither expects nor desires BECKETT’S, “I’ll sleep at my place.”
I so smiled when Kate foils Rick’s attempt to equate her desk elephants with his Linus, wall-hung photograph, when she replies, “If you don’t like the elephants, I don’t like the elephants.” Rick admits, “Actually, I like the elephants—these have family values, and this one is good with money.” Kate points that Rick’s master bedroom is now “our lair”!!!
What a realistic, sweet, and special ending!!! Having further read Alice’s book, Rick agrees, has moved Linus and has added, not the loft art, which is his story, but shadow box shells which he kept from his and Kate’s first, Hampton’s walk—their story, obviously treasured by our couple!!! Kate smiles her happiness; adding, “Seriously,” when Rick’s phone sounds with a lion’s roar!!! Our DD have a “deal;” if Kate is frightened, she can, tonight, sleep on Rick’s side of their bed!!! Certainly, Kate’s and Rick’s chemistry is award-worthy—sweet, frustrating, funny, loving, and exciting!!! Kudos to Stana and Nathan for their always, layered and nuanced acting, comic timing, conveyed drama--and with looks, dialogues, gestures, tone—revealed “great love story”!!!
I really love the way that Ryan and Esposito have developed such separate identities but have never lost their cohesiveness as partners. Of course, Ryan would be the one to read the book on relationships while Espo could care less. Ryan got in a good dig about diamond knowledge because he'd proposed to someone, whereas Espo had not, but then Espo came back with the shot about being the female in the relationship because Ryan was wearing a sweater vest. Ryan had a great line that I think is very true - he's comfortable in his maleness. I love that he wears pink shirts and reads heady books and is sweet and thoughtful towards his wife. At the end of the day, Ryan and Espo had each other's backs in the shootout and that's all that mattered.
It was good to see Captain Gates interested in the case and have a definite presence in this episode. The case was twisty and the murderer was a surprise. It was interesting that Kate did the interrogation of the hired thug all by herself. She was definitely in bad cop mode. Another highlight for me was hearing Castle weave one of his classic stories about the case. He succeeded in drawing Kate in and she had to admit that it was a good theory. Fun to see tech girl back and doing her thing. I didn't feel any sparks between her and Espo this time.
It was great to see Kate and Castle deal with the shared space issue as it's a prelude to actually living together. I liked that Kate referred to the loft as coming "home" even now. She used some excellent strategies on Castle to get him to move Linus and every time he thought he had her cornered, she had a perfect comeback, such as staying at her own place or agreeing to get rid of the elephants. Castle didn't stand a chance! However, what I liked the most is that there really wasn't a winner and a loser. Castle rose to the occasion and did something so meaningful and thoughtful that made Kate love him even more by starting to create a space that told THEIR story. ****swoon**** Such a beautiful man, both inside and out! I have to say that it was really great to have the focus on their deepening relationship and see them grow ever closer together.
LOVED the wardrobe in this episode but I'm going to just talk about these two. Both look great. Both are wearing classics with a modern twist.
Esposito is in a classic black leather cafe racer with a zippered front, 2x chest, 2x side, and zippered sleeves. This racer sports a mandarin single snap collar and patched elbows. Bottom edge of jacket is hemmed (or would you call that cuffed?). There's a curved pattern on the lower back. I couldn't identify the make but the Burberry Brit Soft Leather Racer, Coach Bleecker Racer, Schott Fitted Cafe Racer 660, and the Stockton Racer (J Crew) are all similar. A red crew neck long sleeve T in red (heathered?), black jeans, and black boots complete his classic look.
Ryan is in a classic plaid sport coat (tweed?), argyle v-neck sweater vest, and a two button, mitered cuff, French placket, spread collar dress shirt in light blue. Every guy should have a light blue dress shirt. Pants look to be black or dark blue jeans and he's wearing brown shoes with rubber soles as far as I can tell. He's basically wearing a blue canvas with two contrasting patterns but it works because one is subtle. You have to be very dapper to pull this ensemble off. Heck, takes a lot of chutzpah just to wear a large, plaid pattern sport coat.
Where do I fall? I usually dress like Ryan but I do pull the Esposito look a lot, including a Mahogany Bleecker racer. I rarely dress like Castle.
That was fun.
The lion is a symbol of the past. It was linked to a best seller. To me, it's Meredith watching the two of them. It has nothing to do with Castle and Beckett. But it is bugging the hell out of kate. So, Rick lets it go without much of a fight. Yes, he jabs a bit, the elephants, the references to the lion and how it is a part of him and the bedroom/lair schtik. Kate just knows how to handle him and she is perfect. "I will just stay at my place"...her territory...her lair.. And the line about not getting into her...well..you know!!!! Not to mention the "If you don't like them than I don't", concerning the elephants. That was the straw that broke his back. He knew then that she could compromise if he would and what was important to him, was important to her. Valuable lessons to learn in a marriage. Rick has learned that now, the two share everything and the past has nothing to do with the present and the future. So just let go and grow. And Kate is again woooooed by the manchild, who makes the shell collage and keeps the lion phone ring. Love it. And loved the way it was discussed throughout the show. Our baby Rick is growing up and the bad ass Kate is softening up a little. Ahhhhh....(sigh) Ain't love grand?
I love the work and play transitional conversations on the job. It is seamless.
Yes, they are a power couple as well. And I believe that Kate can see that now. Castle refers to them as Alpha's. He has no idea how Alpha they are going to become.
Once again, the writers go outside the box, showing us how technology has evolved. They can now create a seamless man made diamond. It is worth killing for.
Did anyone catch the shameless subliminal cut? "Leo...couple of words...and then Diamond" The Leo Diamond is a very popular diamond brand. Welcome to the holidays. Smile ABC, you made a lot of money off that one.
And Kate even accepted one of his theories as truth. And it gave her the clues to find what she needed. One thing that bothered me though was the writers overdid Castle's crazy theories a bit. It was almost as if they tolerated them and then moved on. We know he presents the other side of the coin, but I think they overdid it tonight. He doesn't have to be comic relief all the time.
We see less of Lanie and more of Torrie....so what gives?
Anyway,,,to me this was another notch in Rick's belt. I see what Kate sees now.
She can have it all and she knows it. There is this wonderful quiet confidence to her now. This is her man and she knows exactly how to compromise with him. And she knows that he just can't say no. That is the way it should be. She loves him, and though both are set in their ways, they are learning that the great couples are the ones who be who they are while meeting somewhere in the middle and never letting go of the other. They don't let the little things bother them anymore and they are willing to talk and have fun about it. If I was Rick, I would take her shopping for new furniture for the loft and get rid of everything except his office and that couch that she loves so much. I am waiting for the Christmas episode now. It's all coming together. Now lets see some of Lanie explored.

And, I have to say, that display of flowers is stunning and gorgeous! I almost didn't notice the guys, because I couldn't take my eyes off that magnificent bouquet! lol....
I also enjoyed the COTW with it's twists and turns. Sholud have guessed it earlier than I did.
Nice to see the crew at the 12th again. The bromance seems alive and well. Lanie was looking good.
I was glad for a break in the "family drama" .
