Our resident host of the epilogue is having technical difficulties so you will have to put up with me. Will we finally get the tension out of the air with Like Father, Like Daughter? Will this case bring our favorite author and his favorite little girl back together again? Tell us what you thought!
I will be very happy for them to patch up their differences so we can move on to more Caskett time. Lately Alexis has been getting on my nerve. Our resident host of the epilogue is having technical difficulties so you will have to put up with me. Will we finally get the tension out of the air with Like Father, Like Daughter? Put up with you is right! Put up with you is right! clown-2-smiley-face you love me and you know it. THIS EPISODE FREAKING ROCKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I HAD to come here and put my three cents worth in! I JUST finished watching! Just let me say, it's not often the case makes me cry. COMPELLING! Lost it at the end when everyone realized who the killer is (was), (and I totally called it, too, just for the record ) with the culmination of the resolution and all of the feels and emotion in the courtroom. It was palpable from everyone!! The love between Frank and John, and Maggie's love for Frank, and the fact that Frank was making the ultimate sacrifice for his brother was heart-wrenching! The emotion that Alexis showed through this entire episode not only for the case, but for her dad, and the realization that Kate would do anything for her, was gripping. This episode totally reached in to the recesses of my heart! On so many levels! The relationship issues were tackled at every turn and was the heartbeat of this episode. The incredible case was the catalyst! Let me just say that the Kate and Lanie time was incredible! Getting into Kate's mind in this way is magical, and Lanie's voice of reason to bring Kate back down to a comfortable level is so lovely. There is nothing like a friend to help you see the objectivity in something. The magic between all of these characters/entire cast, not just Kate & Lanie, is always a sight to behold! This episode further put something to rest. In my opinion. When Kate was talking to Lanie, she echoed the very feelings that Gina did to Castle, in Poof, You're Dead. The fact that Alexis and Castle have this bond, and that Castle was never willing to let Gina in, was one of the big issues in their marriage. Was Castle really never willing to let Gina in? Or was it Gina who didn't try hard enough? Castle and Alexis have this "pea-pod bond" that no one else was ever able to permeate. Did Gina not know HOW to break through. Or was it that Castle didn't love Gina enough to let her in? Whatever the reason, we know they were not meant to be. It is interesting that Kate is aware and has the same feelings. The difference between Kate and Gina, is that one, Castle loves Kate like no other, so the dynamics are different, but also, Kate proved that she is willing to do whatever it takes to show Alexis that she loves and cares about her. The space-marriage concept was hilarious! And Kate saying she was not going to get married with jet, or was it rocket fuel, taped to her ass...... I ROLLED! Castle looked lovely in that green shirt. The comment by Alexis in the car to Castle, about him "trying to bond", just made me smile. Of course he was trying to bond, and she was trying to be still mad. SO CUTE! Love Castle's exasperated expressions! Where his eyes get so big, and he's somewhat at a loss! LOVE watching him! Alexis & Castle in unison, like he & Beckett do... interesting! Loved the reconciliation of Castle and Alexis. It was short, sweet, but had the total impact it needed. And the ending...just the sillouettes of Alexis and Kate.... said more than any dialogue they could've given us. They accept each other, and Alexis knows that Kate would do anything for her. It was a gorgeous, beautiful scene. Less was definately more. I LOVED THIS EPISODE! I ADORE THIS SHOW! JUST EPIC!!! This season is INCREDIBLE! clown-2-smiley-face you love me and you know it. It was an awesome episode! Can't wait for the rest of you to enjoy it, in 6.5 hours! THIS EPISODE FREAKING ROCKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It will be fun to watch again tonight.</font> OH, that smilie CRACKS ME UP! THANKS! Well, I'm popping back in to say that I'm up and running again. Well, maybe not running exactly ...... I want to thank Teel for stepping up in my anticipated absence and getting the thread going. I hope my job's still secure. She did a wonderful job and it's already a hoppin' place! I'm looking forward to watching in less than an hour and will be back to join everyone else with my thoughts. Thanks to you and to Teel, too, Nathanfan!!! I thought this was an excellent episode. I liked that they took it out of the normal format of the show & had this as an Alexis project. I fully expected Kate to be involved in the case in a more official capacity, but it was really nice story-telling that she was never asked to help. It wasn't her job, wasn't her case, was never even asked by Castle for any help... yet she wanted to help out of love for Alexis and went out of her way to make things happen. I'm glad she didn't ask Lanie, either, because then Kate would have been totally alone in being left out. I loved that Espo & Ryan convinced Alexis to ask her dad because he has great insight that is different than what cops see. I loved that, while she was still angry, Alexis told Frank that her dad was a genius. I liked how Castle went into daddy bear mode and explained how he knew she was trusting & just didn't want her to get hurt - nearly verbatim for why he didn't want her to move in with Pi. Her understanding in this context (even though she disagreed & put herself in harm's way anyhow) helped her understand his protective instinct about her moving in with a guy, thus making it easier for her to forgive him. I liked how Kate's problem was resolved in this episode instead of dragging through several episodes: she recognized that she was on the outside of the pea-pod bond, was instructed that she had to initiate bonding with Alexis, and was clueless of how to go about doing that. But she was already doing it through helping with no strings attached, and Alexis saw it & accepted that offering of love & support & had the decency to thank Kate in person. I LOVED Alexis's icked out face after dad says, "Weird. I usually do that with Beckett." It was sweet that they were in synch despite the fight over the last few weeks. I liked the twists of the case. It was well crafted. And I don't recall hearing before that Lex was taking a law class. )I didn't even think sophomores could enroll on law classes.) Chalk that up to another thing she has in common with Kate. And I loved that Kate was making Castle go look at wedding venues. So many people thought she'd be reluctant to keep the ball rolling and set a date. I'm glad they were wrong! I liked the mirror comment when Alexis said, "This is enough." 'What is enough?' has been a running theme since the S3 finale. Nicely done; fantastic episode! Loved this episode. So glad they didn't drag this thing with Alexis out too long. So many great moments. Castle trying to bond with Alexis, the two of them really working off each other just like Castle and Kate, and of course the point at which they both say the same thing at the same time. Loved everybody back at the precinct being so invested in helping Alexis. Did not have a clue who the real killer was until Alexis and Castle confronted the cop at the diner. As always, love the talk with Kate and Lanie. I also realized that Kate echoed Gina's feelings about being on the outside of the Alexis/Castle relationship. I thought it was an interesting choice to have Kate echo back those words. But of course we know that things are different with Kate and that she will definitely become part of the family unit. And loved the closing scene between Kate and Alexis. We didn't need to know what was said, their actions were enough. This is indeed shaping up to be a fantastic season! BEST. SEASON. EVER. PERIOD. #stupidhappy #season6FTW #isitMondayyet? #perfectlybalanced #greatstorytelling #finallypayingattentiontothecases #banterFTW #LanieFTW CASTLE, 6X07; LIKE FATHER, LIKE DAUGHTER, evidences our beloved show’s dramedy, relationship and crime-solving challenges and triumphs—and the warm, witty, poignant, tender, and joyous journeys to justice, family, and love!!! Underlining what I find to be the CASTLE team’s usual but still appreciated and celebrated writing, production, directing, set design and dressing, make-up and costume, music, lighting, cinematography, editing—and spot on acting, I mention the following delights, among many more!!! Repetitive, but true--thank you, AWM and team!!! Kate and Rick discuss a wedding in space; Kate’s childhood wedding dreams did not include rocket fuel!!! When Kate assures Rick that he should say if he does not want to visit wedding venues during the weekend, and he replies that he does not, she tells her fiancé, “Too bad.” However, when Rick calls to talk with Kate about his chance, during the same days, to reconnect with Alexis, Kate is quick to declare, “She’s/[Alexis] is family; I love her, too”!!! Rick lovingly assures Kate that she is “pretty great;” which Kate happily acknowledges, encouraging Rick to be with his daughter. Although she knows that she needs and does ask for Rick’s help with her Project Innocence quest, Alexis rebuffs Rick’s attempts to connect, including re: Pi!!! How fitting that the prisoner, about to be executed, had proposed, before his sentencing, to “the love of his life,” who has stuck by him, including even as he faces execution!!! Rick, having checked, I.E., via ESPO, on his daughter, who won’t return his calls—is not able to focus on his writing, playing with pencils—but is thrilled with the idea of a father-daughter road trip/mission to save an innocent man—“Fasten your seatbelt, it’s going to be a bumpy ride”!!! I love that Rick tells Alexis that he, as her father, just wants her to be safe!!! CASTLE phones BECKETT, “Just do your best, CASTLE; she [Alexis] loves you.” Rick’s and Alexis’ crime solving communication is reminiscent of/has similarities with CASTLE’S and BECKETT’S crime-solving effectiveness!!! Rick exclaims, “That’s funny; usually, I do that with BECKETT”!!! Questions, clues, discoveries, and answers lead to saving Frank HENSEN, who is about to be executed!!! Kate and Lanie—crime-solving team, Alexis-approached or not, also discuss Kate’s marrying CASTLE and his family; making her own history with Alexis and their family; and not expecting the perfect family, even though Alexis has reached out to everyone in the precinct except Kate—how difficult not to take that personally!!! Kate interviews John HENSEN, brother of defendant, Frank HENSEN, who blames himself for his brother’s John’s car-crash injuries and drug abuse!!! CASTLE’S outside-the-box thinking helps to pursue the clues which reveal the actual circumstances of the victim’s murder—crime scene photos and videos, a doorknob wiped clean of prints and oil-free, chemistry books; a binary clock with planetary hours, bike tracks, chemistry tutorees, teen meth cookers working in a foreclosed house, a broken charm bracelet and a stray charm, among other leads, reveal that neither Frank nor his brother John had killed Kim, as Frank, feeling guilty for his brother’s car crash injuries and drug use, trying to spare his brother, had believed!!! John, then Frank, had discovered Kim’s body!!! If the charm bracelet broke in the struggle, why was the dolphin charm under Kim’s body?! Now a policeman himself, the police chief’s son’s swim-team, dolphin charm; meth cooking, learned from chemistry tutoring and discovered by Kim, who would have turned him in, will convict him of the murder!!! Is the younger LANE the uncooperative policeman whom Rick and Alexis encounter earlier in the Pennsylvania bar/restaurant?! [Answer: Yes] Alexis and Rick reach out to and for one another—period—and apologize and hug; Alexis thanks her father for everything and, rather than celebrating with the exonerated defendant and his loved ones, echoes, “This is enough,” wants to return to the 12th to thank Kate, to whom Alexis offers her hug—happily and warmly returned by BECKETT, as Rick, tears in his eyes, is so relieved, moved, proud, and happy to witness!!! Healing and family blending have begun, intensified, and improved!!! Normally, I don't especially care for episodes that take us away from the precinct, but I ended up really liking this one and one of my favorite things was getting to see an actual court scene. I'd still like to see Kate have to testify sometime but this was a nice change of pace. I fully expected the focus to stay on Castle and Alexis, which it did, but the whole team ended up helping in some way and the underlying story line of Kate helping without being asked was wonderful! I loved how easily and confidently Kate referred to becoming a family! Made my heart sing! Great scene with Kate and Lanie and it was an interesting choice to have Kate's concerns so closely mirror Gina's a couple of years ago. Through it all, Kate remained entirely supportive of Castle and Alexis, despite her own insecurities and it paid off in that last scene. I give Alexis a lot of credit for realizing that she was the one who needed to reach out and thank Kate. Seeing Castle's face as he watched the 2 most important females in his life share a heartfelt hug, was enough to bring tears to my eyes. The case was intriguing with quite a surprising twist when it was revealed that Frank was willing to die for his brother and that he'd been consumed by guilt over an incident from their youth. Never saw the killer coming but I sure enjoyed the process of revealing him. I liked the progress that was made between Castle and Alexis. She sure started out distant, even though she sucked it up and asked her dad to help. Throughout the show, there was a nice thawing, culminating in that wonderful hug in the courtroom. It still doesn't clear up the issue of Pi, but at least I feel the two of them are willing to listen to each other again and will make an effort to work things out. I always like to end with thoughts about Caskett! I loved that there was definite wedding talk and that Kate is actively leading the way. What a great exchange about the idea of getting married in space and having rocket fuel on her ass! I also loved the flashback with the screensaver YOU SHOULD BE WRITING and seeing Castle procrastinating by stacking pencils on his face. I'd be willing to bet that the director told Nathan to act bored and just let him come up with something. It was a hoot! AND, once again, we heard Kate call Castle, "Babe!" I get tickled every time I hear it! So, great progress on the family front and an all around satisfying episode! I forgot to mention one other component of the story that I loved. It was very interesting to see Castle worried about living up to the expectations of Alexis and the people she was helping. While I loved that Alexis obviously had a tremendous amount of faith in his crime solving abilities, it was an intimidating amount of pressure for him. It was a significant relationship moment when he voiced that insecurity to Kate. It sure shows how close they've become.

THIS EPISODE FREAKING ROCKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I HAD to come here and put my three cents worth in! I JUST finished watching! It was a gorgeous, beautiful scene. Less was definately more. I LOVED THIS EPISODE! I ADORE THIS SHOW! JUST EPIC!!! This season is INCREDIBLE! It is very obvious now that Kate is ready to get married. Rick's stead fast persistence that he is so all in has broken down whatever wall was left. She is ready to settle down and start a family with him and she wants Alexis in the fold as well. She made it clear that she was there for both of them tonight and just as clear, Kate made it known to Castle that they are going to start to put this wedding together whether he likes it or not. Outer Space?....stop Richard...YOU ARE FREAKIN KILLING ME....LOL And the rest of the crew was all in too. They all rushed in to help their " little sister" Alexis. They believed in her, they treated her with the utmost respect and they were willing to go to the mat for her. And you are right CK, Kate is willing to do anything to reach Alexis and enter the inner circle of the family. She is not an outsider, and truth be told, she never was. So Gina has been dealt with and that leaves us with Meredith, who Kate is not done with yet. Only this time, it will be Rick who sets her straight, making right the very disrespectful "Detective Beckett" comment at the end of the episode last year as Meredith carefully and strategically drove a dagger into Beckett's mind. Last week, I think they handled the child issues when neither balked at the prospect of the "ThreePeat" . So we are heading for a wedding. And it is coming. You can see how Kate has influenced Rick over the years. He was the voice of reason, looking at the facts, while his child, Alexis, was portraying her Father. It was unique as Alexis asked the questions that Rick was asking in "Flowers for Your Grave" while Kate was trying to move on and just let the evidence talk. And Alexis looked deeper for the story, just like Dad. And Dad was looking to speak for the dead in the way that Kate can only do. The Banter was amazing and it let Rick realize just how special things are between he and Kate. He saw, first hand, what Kate experiences on a daily basis as Alexis was relentless. Rick was shocked when he understood that this special interaction was normally reserved for he and Kate. Only now it was him seeing the other side of the coin. What a great case, and an even better story. And make no mistake, this was a love story. Love for a brother, love of a woman. love of a father for his daughter, love of daughter for her father, love of a fiance for her man and his family and love of a family for Alexis. It was special. So special. And I repeat, the wedding is coming. Great writing, it tied everything together and broke down boundaries between states and personalities. Everyone won, including us. It was written so well that you felt everyone was there working together. The whole plot and story just meshed. They combined everyone's role and purpose beautifully. I especially love how close Alexis wanted to be to her dad, while keeping her distance and finally just saying I have to accept you for who you are too Dad and Dad responded in kind. And Kate was with them the whole time as was Ryan, Espo and Lanie. They moved mountains and it seemed all were right there, working together to get this done. But it was Kate, who wanted more, who felt left out, but yet, in the end, through her actions, made such inroads that it just stole the story. It brought Rick to almost tears as Alexis and Kate hugged. Very emotional. I shed a tear or two. It was sweet vindication for the left out Kate. She does matter and she is the one, that in times of peril, will swing the bat for Alexis and protect her to the end. It was heartwarming. It was sincere, and boy was it great. Amazing. Just another precious nugget in a string of unbelievable shows this season that is redefining the way that people view tv. No soap opera here. Only cutting edge. Very strong. Very moving. Very intimate. This rose has bloomed into something very special. Did I say how much I love this show? Nest week looks good....in fact, it's looking incredible. The best show on tv just keeps getting better. I echo your sentiments CK....I loved this Episode and all this season. BRAVO....STANDING OVATION. This was a great story. Lots of tension and evidence sending us in a new direction with each discovery. Alexis needed to make her apology, which I'm glad she did. More importantly, Rick took the high road like the adult he is by saying he deserved the treatment received, thus putting an end to most of the hard feelings. I loved how the whole team got involved with the case. Kate knew she needed to stay in the background and offer help and support. She knew Rick and Alexis needed to solve the case together, and didn't really ever feel left out of it. Her interrogation of the brother was so good. There were so many chilling scenes, but I never doubted Rick's ability to find the clues which led to the final outcome. Looking forward to next week's show. Another awesome episode Well, I'm popping back in to say that I'm up and running again. Well, maybe not running exactly ...... I'm looking forward to watching in less than an hour and will be back to join everyone else with my thoughts. You shall never be replaced my friend! You are a one of a kind! I was glad to help. Enjoyed what I have seen of the episode (2 cut ins in NYC because of the mall gunman), but did have one question. I have to say I initially read this elsewhere, but is it weird to have Castle and Alexis building theory in the same way as Castle and Beckett. I have not seen the commentaries to episodes, so maybe this has been addressed, but isn't theory building essentially (and not that subtly) foreplay for Castle and Beckett? When she gets mad about him building theory with Jordan Shaw, isn't that essentially you're cheating on me? And, if so, doesn't that make it a little odd when it is done with Alexis? I am not sure at what point of the episode this happened, but while Castle and Alexis were talking about the case they each said the same conclusion simultaneously. Than Castle said how it was weird since he normally does that with Beckett and Alexis made a face. I think that was the reference to what you were talking about. Yeah, Kat pretty much sums it up right here. Fantastic episode, start to finish. Kman, I loved your comment, "No soap opera here." So many of the other programs are just that and Castle truly does stand alone with the quality and integrity of the storytelling! I am going to say no, it is not odd, but only because Rick and Alexis think along the same lines. She is her father's daughter. it just shows how similar the two are. They depended on each other for so long and Alexis was missing the intellectual side of her dad. This was like a conversation that they would normally have. I feel strongly that Alexis could build theory with Kate as well. She is so independent. Dad has taught her to always seek the truth, at any cost. Alexis has always been Rick's mother. At 20, she is years ahead of her father at that age. She plays older. She basically was Rick talking to Rick. And the little boy in Rick was still playing and enjoying it. He had his laser tag partner back, his fencing partner back, his ice cream eating buddy back and the were just lost in this moment of intellectual bliss. It is a very special relationship that this father and daughter share. She is unlike most kids her age. And she has proven that she is destined for something really great in life. So basically, I think she was like playing in the sand box with the old man. She admires him so much so she emulates him. So this is a special circumstance. To me its not weird. It's just Alexis and her dad, doing what they do best. Alexis and Kate are a lot more alike than you may think. The hug kinda proved it. Kate sees herself in Alexis before her mom's death, and it might be Alexis that shows Kate the way to the better life, the more acceptable life that Rick described in the Flowers for Your Grave. And it made Rick so proud. The one thing he was worried about, Kate being on the outside looking in, was not an issue anymore. His daughter made sure of it. She is her father's keeper. Both he and Kate saw the woman that Rick wanted her to be. She is the rare bird who can think and stand on her own two feet and is so incredibly calm in times of toil. She is like her dad in that she reacts instead of accepting the status quo. She dares to dream. She looks for the story. She asks the questions, she wants the answers, but knows that sometimes, others can bring it out of them. That is why Rick is around. He makes everyone better. Look what it did for Alexis in this episode. She was brilliant. He was impressed. I am not sure at what point of the episode this happened, but while Castle and Alexis were talking about the case they each said the same conclusion simultaneously. Than Castle said how it was weird since he normally does that with Beckett and Alexis made a face. I think that was the reference to what you were talking about. Finally saw the whole scene. The ewww and face Alexis makes helps and at least shows the writers were aware of the potential weirdness. Kman, I loved your comment, "No soap opera here." So many of the other programs are just that and Castle truly does stand alone with the quality and integrity of the storytelling! Kman, this is really interesting. I just ran across this today. Great minds think alike I guess. This is from an article interviewing AWM and his answer. Interestingly/somewhat serendipitously, I just the other day asked Castle creator Andrew W. Marlowe why, given Alexis’ “issues” with her father’s engagement/alleged reservations about Kate, the two women didn’t just lay any cards on the table and talk it out. Here’s what he said: I’ve never been fan of the ‘soap opera expressions,’ where everybody lays all of their emotions on the table, because that’s not how it happens in real life until you get to a crisis point. That’s not who Beckett is, and that’s not who Alexis is…. I think that neither of them knows what the other one thinks of them, and neither of them, if the other one said what they thought, would particularly trust it. I think that they both have territorial instincts and they have to work together to figure it out, because they recognize that each of them is giving the person they love something that they can’t. I really believe that in this episode, that actions spoke so much louder than words and by the time the final credits rolled we understood that Alexis and Kate were getting closer and that Kate knew that she was being lead somewhere closer to home than away from it. There is a common ground here somewhere. They both want so badly for this to work for Rick. They both love him so much and they understand that they do bring different courses to the table. They are working on a recipe now for success. I wonder how Alexis sees Kate as a mother figure or older sister figure for her. She can't replace her mother, but sometimes I get the feeling that Alexis doesn't take her mother seriously and would rather be with Kate. I was a bit concerned going in about how they'd handle the whole Death Row thing, since NY doesn't have the death penalty, wondered if they'd just ignore that fact, but was relieved when they had the case in the nearest state that still does. Compelling case but the actual crime didn't meet death penalty criteria IMO. Nice way to cover the second time jump, bringing the episodes up to "real time", with the comment during the car ride about it having been a month since they'd talked. Someone asked about Alexis taking law classes as a sophomore. They referred to the class as a Criminal Justice course, in this case most likely an undergrad course, probably geared to pre-law students. I don't think Columbia has an undergrad criminal justice department, though there might be the possibility of an interdisciplinary major. Could have been a little clearer since there was bound to be confusion with the Innocence Project work Johanna Beckett did with her students. I was surprised that Kate's mother wasn't mentioned given the context. What a GREAT point! Castle viewing him & Kate from the other side of the coin! FANTASTIC! And the wedding, OH, HECK YES! BRING IT! Here-Here, K-Man! CHEERS, my fellow Castle softie! Kman, this is really interesting. My favorite line, "...they recognize that each of them is giving the person they love something that they can't." But isn't that true in life? Of all of us? In every relationship we have? Not just spouses, or where children are concerned, but in friendships, as well? Because we are all different. There is something unique about all of us, and the friends that I love, I love them all differently. If that makes sense. They all fill a piece of me that another cannot. And I love knowing that I am a piece that fits into their puzzle of life, as well. Very cool. I love how Marlowe looks at the triangle of Kate, Castle & Alexis. And that he is not a fan of the soap opera route. Fantastic! NOBODY can replace our Epilogue Thread Sister! NO. BODY!
