Not sure what these actors (read Stana) hope to accomplish during filming season missing randoms episodes. You can't do a movie. Is she overworked? This isnt random, Stana requested in her contract to have two weeks off during the shooting schedule this season, I'm assuming to be able to spend more time with family and her new husband. This episode was purposely written from the beginning with the knowledge that Stana would not be in it. The other was "Cool Boys" Apparently she also has veto power over which red carpet events she attends too.

Im going to put my 2 cents in here and its probably not going to go over well. Alex Hawley said at the beginning of the season that he would like to "repilot" the show. When i read that i was sickened, but thought about all the great eps he wrote so let it go. Should have stuck with my first impression. That is exactly what he is doing. He is systematically, episode by episode, taking apart everything we knew and loved about this show and this couple. It was the plan from the get-go. Forget all the pleasant interviews. Hayley has replaced Beckett in Castle's life. His confidant, his friend. Vikram is Kate's new partner. SK is a secondary cast member now. 3rd listing on cast members on IMDb.The writing is on the wall. Castle PI is what we are getting and has been the plan. Beckett will be gone and Hawley is working hard to get fans to not care about Caskett anymore. His repiloting is working and some fans are buying it. I personally hate it. For some masochistic reason, i will watch until the end to see how this plays out. Its hard to turn away after all this time. I wish i had stopped at the end of S7. I never learn.

I've said it before, my hope is that Nathan and Stana both sigh on, ABC renews for season 9, and these showrunners are fired and replaced. That's the best case scenario. If this was a trial run for the show going on with only one of the two leads, I doubt I'll watch and I certainly won't waste my time reviewing. However, I'll probably keep this board going because I enjoy you all and will always love the first seven seasons of Castle.

I used to think the same thing about missing/not watching the show. I haven't watched an episode since before the hiatus began and I came to realize recently that I haven't even missed it, if I'm being honest. This doesn't mean I will never watch it again, or check in here from time to time, but the longer this current mess drags on the less likely it will be. I hadn't even realized the show was on Monday night until someone from here mentioned it to me elsewhere Tuesday afternoon. In all honesty the extra long hiatus only made it better for me to stop watching. As the weeks passed with no Castle the less and less I thought about it, especially since I am completely put off by locksat and the resulting Caskett separation. I have no use for any story line that involves Bracken in any form or fashion anymore. They have beaten that proverbial dead horse until there is nothing left IMO. So yes, I would agree that I should have stopped with 7x23. If only.....

Even though some of us only "know" each other here, from, well, being here, they are connections I would love to maintain. One way or another. This gives us a common and safe place to share. Thank you for everything, Christine!

Thank you, thank you!
Now for the Castle issue..... I am very good about NOT watching "train wrecks." If there is a car accident I never look at it because of curiosity. Castle is quickly becoming a "train wreck and its not pretty."
I'm not willing to assign much blame to the actors unless their contracts included absolutely NO pre-taped appearances or voice overs on their "vacation" episodes. Even with that..... writers are creative folks, why not write in a fake phone call or reference??? This isn't brain surgery. Placate us just a little with an off handed or subtle explanation for the missing Caskett person. I don't think that is too much to ask. The showrunner is really blowing this.

On Stana's absence, it is quite common for lead actors to negotiate additional time off once a show hits 6 or more seasons. The character is at a conference, out of town on business, out sick, testifying in court, etc. Most of the time they manage a phone or Skype insert, which would have made her absence here less obvious. Sometimes they'll film the same scene on different days from different angles to accommodate schedules; I think the video conference in the previous episode was done for that reason. Some conference room scenes in the various Star Trek series were filmed at different times with actors talking to empty chairs but it looked like one meeting once the scene was edited together.
